Just Can't Get Bit?
I'm in ct too. I'm waiting for warmer temps. It's still 30 degrees here and some ice hasn't all melted yet. Clear water conditions, The cons, If you can see the fish they can see you. The pros, Smaller sized baits fished faster so they can't tell it's fake. Lizzards/salamanders eat the basses eggs, bass hate them, bass eat them. A bait having a rattle and using a scent is a plus. I put small rattles in my plastic works. A twitch of the rod tip makes it rattle. Anyhow trout season opens up here soon. Go trout fishing till it warms up. Warning, It's going to be a short summer, it's going to fly by, fish harder.

Pre Season Equipment Trial Run Through
The ice is almost gone. I like to get out and check my equipment now before the bite starts just to check it in the daylight. Once I start night fishing I have no time for pit stops or stoppages. Does anyone else do it?

Spin Reel $150 Price Range
Well I been using the Fin-Nor and Okuma spinning reels for decades. Never one problem. The other spinning reels that I use are quality reels too. Globe Viva I do not use a baitcaster. Being in stealth mode within feet of a trophy bass that click when the spool engages I feel sends up fireworks to the bass I'm there.

Darn. I have probably lost three new state records so far. I don't dwell on it. I retie a new locking snap swivel and continue on.

Techniques Already In Use When "invented"?
I used it in the 60's salt water fishing for blackfish and flounder? All of a sudden many decades later it's so called invented. We used the split shot rig after my uncle and cousin read about it in field n stream in the early 70's. Bait spreaders we used for flounder it held two baited hooks 10"/12" apart. Cod and Pollak setup is two baited hooks in a vertical position above each other with a weight on the bottom of the rig. We let the weight hit the bottom then reel up a foot or so and wait for a bite. Again I did this 50 years ago. Every so often these old school tactics get a renewed life?

Method For Color Selection?
In the early morning from dark to twilite or day lite to dusk. The basses eyes adjust faster to the change in the light conditions than the sunfishes eyes do. This is why there is a feeding frenzy at these two times. During the late afternoon I'm throwing a joesfly 1/4oz silver blade, black fly called a blacknat. I was on the bass bite fish after fish.As the daylite became dusk the bite shut down. I put on a joesfly firetiger apache 1/4oz. I landed a few more bass before darkness set in. This experience taught me the bass shut down because they couldn't see the silver/black lure. But the firetiger color they could see. When I was a kid in the early 60's in the low light I put a white 4" pork trailer on a hook and casted it in the shallows. I seen it being pulled every which way. Everything was about dark but that white pork trailer I could see perfectly. Sometimes I question what the rules are? Are there rules? I don't think there are any color boundaries when it comes to bass fishing. Don't limit your colors when it comes to bass fishing.

Method For Color Selection?
Tom your correct but one must read some of Dr Loren Hill's ten years of research in the bass with colors. Like I said KVD Has one in his boat for tough days. We can all miss something on a tough day.The bass can't see all the colors all the time. There limited sometimes on what colors they can see. The light conditions, the water condition, the plant life, the change in the light can all influence on what colors the bass can see. I've had days were it's limited to one color they could see. Other days any color worked. But there were more days were the bass were limited color wise. None of us know everything we always learn something new wether it's here or when we're fishing. Keep an open mind and learn.

Can You Punch Grass In 2Ft Of Water
I cast past the open weed pockets and my bomber model A size 05 in redapplecraw floats so I slowly move it into the open pocket and shake it using the rod tip. Any bass that's there will inhale it.

Ice Out/ Early Spring At Night?
We had snow flurries mixed with rain Easter Sunday afternoon. The ice is about 50/60% gone now. Still have ice. Two weeks and a few days from opening day of trout season. My kittens need some fresh fish. Looks like a late spawn. Ill fish for trout till the water warms up more. But I may throw some bass lures too.

What Is On The Banks Of Your Favorite Lake?
Ok I'm standing on a low bridge just 3 to 4' feet above the water. In front of me is a 10' deep channel that opens up to the body of open water, it's about 14' wide on the bridge, it's Rocky on the bottom. To my right is submerged weeds and the weedlines runs parallel with the channel, it's the flats in this section of the weeds. To my left is a rocky point that goes from the left corner of the bridge to the deeper water on the left side. On the other side of point there's submerged weeds again, but it drops off at the waters edge. Beyond the submerged weeds on my right and left is two large sections of Lilly pads. I couldn't design a place that has it all for fishing. This whole area is man made by the road with the bridge. It's a great place to learn every bait and presentation. I'm high enough above to see the lures action. The channel gives me an area. I learn all the presentations here and what works here works everywhere I fish. I pay close attention how I work the rod with the lure when I can see it. Now I do the same action with the rod when I can't see the lure at another place. My point is everything we learn at our favorite place works everywhere we go. I work that Rocky point by skip fan casting it. I'm catching bass from op opposite the current side. I work my jig n pig up the point from the deeper water to the bridge for more bass. In the channel I use my 10' deep crankbaits. I use the shallow cranks along side the weedlines. My shallow cranks over the submerged weeds stopping them over the open weed pockets and jigging the cranks. I pop a popper over the submerged weeds or walk a spook. I also throw spinnerbaits, inline spinners and spinflys too over the whole area. It's knowing the bottom structure too. The portable cast out hummingbird fish finder showed me the depths, were the drop offs are, were the flats are, the deeper holes and the transition points between them. Now I know how to fish it.

Bankfishing Tips?
Walk softly, don't step on tree roots above the ground, don't step on rocks, be very, very, stealthy like your not there. Handle your tackle very quietly. Wear dark colored clothes not bright ones. If you can see the fish they can see you. Don't let the bail on your spinning reel snap shut. Close it by hand quietly. I don't use bait casters because of the click after you cast. Be freaking quiet. It works, try it. Don't fan cast in order, next to your last cast. Jump around. I start at the the left side. Next cast in the middle, next cast to the far right. Next cast along side your first left cast. I call it skip casting. Keep on jumping over casts. This keeps the spooking the fish down. I figured out so many things I was doing wrong. Well let's say things I could do better.

Method For Color Selection?
Stop, relax, try different baits looking for a pattern. Try different colors for the color of the day. Try different presentations. The bass will let you know when you get it right. Everyone has good advice here sometimes we take things as a rule. There are no rules. When it's a tough day break the rules, break the norm try every color you would think of throwing. You will find a nitch.

Method For Color Selection?
I have four of them. The COLOR C LECTOR picks the color it's the early one. The COMBO C LECTOR has the water temperature, the PH besides the color picking. I have no clue how it worked with some of the solid colored lures at first. I read that KVD Has one on his boat for the tough days. We all know who KVD is??Spike-it offers a new high tech color c lector. I haven't purchased one yet I'd like to get one and test it. I don't have a crystal ball but being into bass fishing heavy I like to figure out why the fish aren't biting. I throw my ritual of baits, try different presentations yet I know the fish are there. I figured you can have a different water condition in the same water column. It can read clear on the upper part yet down below be stained or muddy. Here I'm throwing smaller natural colors for nothing. I put on a firetiger and I'm on fish. When in doubt throw a firetiger. It could be the difference between success or going home a beaten fisherman. It's funny in the exact same spot a red amber gold flake senkos on a c rig is killing them. Try a few days later the red amber catches nothing but the electric blue senkos is killing them. Now tell me the bass cannot see colors? On a tough day don't give up "change colors"!!!!!

Method For Color Selection?
Match the trailers to the skirt color true. I use the mister twister 4" split double tail grubs as spinnerbait trailers.Hot Chartruese spinnerbaits with a chartruese trailer. Stained water/muddy water White blue tinted spinnerbait skirt with a white trailer. Clear water Rule of thumb. Clear water Natural colored smaller baits fished fast. Stained water Brighter color medium sized baits fished slower. Muddy water Brightest color, largest sized baits fish slowest.

Method For Color Selection?
At night the freshwater eels are at the shoreline. They run from a dark gray to black. This is why a black colored worm is so hot. Black Black Shad Red Red Shad Green Green Shad Purple Purple fire tail Purple red tail Purple yellow tail Purple Chartruese tail Electric Blue Blue Blue Fire tail Blue red tail Blue Chartruese tail. Etc. Bass do not see colors like we do. They are limited to seeing certain colors at certain conditions.

Bass Night Fishing?
We still have some ice on and snow flurries today. I have new rods and reels sitting here for over a year now. Been sick but better now I'm ready to wet some lines and drown some crankbaits.
