  1. Don't lose anything. Buy good quality line.
  2. It's a choice of what works at that time? Black with red flake brushogs work for me the bass love'm. It's either the black with red flake brushogs. The Amber/orange/red colored with gold flake senkos. The electric blue color with silver flake senkos. I can't argue with what color they like, it works.
  3. When I first started using scents they had a scent for just about every bait. I used the correct scent/smell for every bait. It worked. Baitmate(example) Original bass scent anything Crawfish scent crawfish cranks Garlic scent great change up pitch. Live bait scent anything Work & crawler scent plastic worms, creature baits Shad scent on minnow baits Now with less and less assortment wise of flavors where does that leave us. I'm fishing at my usual spot using the original bass scent and it's slow very slow. We're the baseball pitcher calling the shots. I change the scent to garlic and the bite is on. The misses uses that chopped garlic in the glass jars. I told her when the jar is empty to save me the juice. Don't spill the scent in the car. I had a hatch back car that fished from shore from. I spilled some garlic scent in the hatch back. I drove around that summer fishing smelling like a Italian salad. It didn't attract any hot babes in bikini's but it attracted the bugs for sure.
  4. Here in the northeast the ice is still on and there's 12" of snow on the lawn too. My fishing tackle sits there wanting and ready to go. Even my 4yo grandson is asking to go. Every week when he visits we have to open every tackle box because he has to look at every lure. I have to explain what every lure does and how to present it. At 4 yo the boy is so smart. He remembers everything. He's an up coming future pro. All he talks about is fishing.
  5. I mainly catch and release. I do take a few 2/3 pounders a year to feed my rescued kittens just once a year. Nothing during the spawn. My local places had winter kill offs because there's too many bass for the body of water to support. I'm sure I'm not hurting the bass population. It breaks my heart when I see some take 2" long sunnies to eat. Get help and food stamps. Luckily most fisherman here don't understand how to fish for bass. I lol at some of the stuff they use. Like 2oz saltwater sinkers. The noise when it hits the water scares the fish and the people nearby too. They put a bobber above the sinker. I have no clue. Maybe well see them on ESPN someday on a bass blooper show. That's why I switched from evening fishing to early morning fishing. No one is there but me, the deer, the otters and fish.
  6. My crawfish locally are red sides with black backs in my ponds and lakes. In the rivers there a tan color. The bomber FAT A / Model A crankbaits in redapplecraw with the Orange bottom is one of the hottest crank colors.
  7. For color info about what colors the bass can see search for Dr Loren Hill of OKLAHOMA UNV 10 years of research into this subject. Bass can't see all the colors like we do all the time. The sunlite, the hues in the water and the vegetation determines what colors the bass can see at certain times. Dr Loren Hill invented the Color C lector or and the Combo C Lector. I purchased a Combo C Lector just to if it really worked. After reading some of the doctors research results. My test was done at the same exact at the same time. I'm using the Bomber crankbaits. Day 1 the Combo c lector chose a multiple color. One was red. Red caught fish when the other colors didn't. Day 2 it chose brown. Brown worked when the other colors didn't. Day 3 it chose green. Green worked when the other colors didn't. Day 4 I used every color crank I had ever color, red, Brown, green all caught fish. This tells me the bass on certain days can see all the colors, on other days there limited to seeing colors. My fishing experience has taught me we can also have different water conditions as we go deeper conditions can change. To test this on a tough day when the surface water looked clear I tossed a firefighter and caught fish. Do scents work? Yes they do.
  8. It's snowing tonight. I think the ice is still solid I haven't looked. I'm so over winter. I wish I could find the mouri fishing charts to go by again. They were in outdoor life when I used them to fish by. Trust me they work. You need to adjust the time to where we live.
  9. Yup it's the down to earth guys just fishing. Hank Parker is one of the top fishing shows. I started out with gadda bout gaddis the flying fisherman with his float plane on sundaynites. Then it was Jerry Mckinnis on Saturday mornings we were glued to the tv set with our bowl of cereal. Here we are 40 years later I still stop to watch Jerry when he's on any show. The Dime Store Fisherman was a good show too. The boys from Canada. I just don't know when everyone is on at what time or channel. I dont watch much tv lately.
  10. I purchased the Swiss camo poncho's there the military surplus stuff it's cheap and good.
  11. I only own one bass fishing book. The pursuit of giant bass by Murphy. A lot of it I learned on my own. But there's stuff for everyone. I read the articles here, watch the videos on you tube. I purchased every bass fishing video I could. I hammered watching them. Listen to watch each fisherman says in there video but also watch how the use the rod and crank the reel too. Now go out and try it.
  12. I don't care about the price I want the best quality jigs for my bass, they deserve the best. Sieberts Outdoors offers the quality in looking for. Time to order more jigs.
  13. I also grab anything that's on sale, on clearance, discounted too. Anything that's a different color or blend of color. Look at your Wal-Mart clearance section in the fishing department. Time to stock up on hooks, locking snap swivels, plastics, cranks etc. what ever they offer. Right now the color is orange.
  14. I use all copolymer fishing line. I used every brand but I always go back to Excaliber Silver Thread Copolymer fishing line. I fish from shore too.
  15. Lead Engineering Tech in a R&D test lab. I was in charge of the floor. It was like having my own company providing a service to the engineers in product development, life testing new products and accident investigations. My last 20years of working was fun. All my heavy machine tool building experiences were used in the lab. I had a blast. I build machine tools that weighed 200,000lbs. In the test lab the motors we tested weighed 30,000lbs. They thought it was a big deal with moving them.
  16. My jeep needed new tires at $200 each. I found tires on eBay for $100 each, new. $400 = 4 new tires $125 = shipping them here. $ 85= to mount them on a slow Friday afternoon. $610 total vs $800 plus mounting/balancing. I saved $190. For buying tackle?
  17. Put a fork in me I'm done. "Me" Get off my lawn, Clint Eastwood Did I fire five? or six rounds? This could be your lucky day punk. Dirty Harry aka Clint Eastwood.
  18. The ice is on here yet. I moved my rod setups they were near the kitchen table were I can drool on them. Lol I have an awesome wife who understands men have there hobbies. I leave stuff everywhere.
  19. Fishing from the shore it depends on which way the wind is blowing. I can hide on the windless side of a small inlet or cove and still fish. Spinnerbaits, inline spinners, small spin flys. The joesfly 1/4oz bass size in firetiger apache is great when the water is choppy.
  20. 11. Joints ache too? I got it all too but the ice is still on here? The spawn I'm feeling is the very big fat does here every night eating my molasses coated corn. These does were fawns once which I fed too. They remember to come back to eat in the cold. There daddy is a 16 to 18pts 300lb buck. I been giving him a by run so he can spread those special genes.
  21. Anytime were not limited to certain times. I like to throw the top water baits along side the pads and weedlines. I throw past my target area so I don't spook them. The a either pop it or walk the dog slowly through the area. I make the bass charge out of there hiding spot to strike it. A slow 1-2-3 pop then a pause works too. They can get violent strike wise.
  22. Don't get hung up with one color. I found out every color will catch fish sooner or later.
  23. Remember the Orange bottom crankbaits are hotter than the rest most of the time. I purchased a off wall brand of spooks in Orange. When leaving the mom and pop bait shop I asked myself why I just through $1.99 away? Early one morning I was sitting at the waters edge and tried the Orange spook. I added a shot of yum and let it fly. By my fifth bass while fan casting I remembered this was the last orange spook they had. As I got into bass fishing really heavy I read anything that was about bass fishing. I read some of Dr. Loren Hill of OK univ about his 10 years of testing in the lab with bass about seeing colors. I'm a color freak now when it comes to different lure colors. The rest of the answers about lure colors is here in the articles. Orange, sunfishes, bluegills, lower breast is orange. The ducklings legs look like orange? On a slow bite firetiger can be your friend. Dr Loren Hill, Color C Lector and the Combo C Lector. Then we have the newer high tech spike it color selector I have tested the Combo c lector and found it works with the newer multiple lure colors not the older plain, bla solid lure colors that were numbered to the old unit. This is some research for you to do if your interested.
  24. It's not my favorite colors it what color the fish can see. I use every color bait do to the light conditions, the hues in the water and the water conditions. Clear water conditions its smaller baits, natural colors baits, fished fast.. Stained water conditions its medium sized baits, brighter colors fished slow. Muddy water conditions its larger sized baits, brightest colors fished the slowest. In any condition having a rattle and a shot of scent is a plus. When in doubt throw fire tiger. The water conditions we see on the surface can change as you go deeper. Now what crank bait colors do I use all of them. The orange belly crank baits seem to have an edge sometimes.
  25. I can operate on myself most of the time. I carry pliers and cutting pliers in most of my tackle boxes. One short pit stop and the hook is out. Not that often but I'm ready for when it happens.
