  1. Hi all, I've started getting into pouring my own plastics this winter to help with this season's cabin fever. It seems that every time I place an order I soon realize I need(want) other supplies. The problem is that I can't seem to find a good source for these smaller orders with economical shipping. If I want to buy some colorant and glitter it seems I end up having to pay more in shipping than for the actual products. I know tacklewarehouse has some glitter and colorant, but they only have the smaller size containers and not a large variety. Does anyone know if there are other places that have plastisol, colorant, scent, additives, etc that also offer free shipping on orders over a certain spend threshold? Any other insight on this? Thanks!
  2. I would look into the Diesel series by powell, the rods are fantastic. unfortunately the series is pretty limited but the models they do offer cover a wide variety of techniques. As far as the reel wait around here and be patient, great deals are often found
  3. Great thorough review, thank you! I use mostly powell rods, both spinning and casting, with that being said obviously I love them. I have a 683 c paired with a zillion and there is very little I would trade that combo for. It can do pretty much anything i need it to. The rod is extremely versatile. I also have the 735 frog rod which I actually use for pitching and jigs and it is outstanding. they are plenty sensitive and feel sturdy. Heard great things about the diesel line, so I just ordered one to give it a try. The already low price combined with the 4th of july sale brought it to a point where I couldn't pass it up. Very excited to give it a try. If I like it I'm really hoping they expand both the spinning and casting lines. A true finesse spinning rod would be nice as well as a 7' casting rod.
  4. I use straight braid most of the time 30# have had no issues with this. sometimes if i'm fishing in open water when the water is super clear i will add a flouro leader, but only if I really have to.
  5. I attempted to do this last xmas break i was home from school. I ended up painting a older bps prolite with a black and white scheme to a veritas. It turned out pretty well. I don't know if I went about it in the best way. The thing that helped me out the most was practice taking apart and putting the reel back together. Knowing where all the pieces go is crucial as you will be taking the reel apart. A spray gun is helpful, I didn't use one until my final coat because that's when i figured out i could convert a full size compressor to work with a spray gun hose using fixtures from harbor freight. I would start on a reel that really isnt that important to you just encase something goes wrong a compromises the condition of the reel. Basically i took apart the reel and separated the parts i wanted to paint. I then used fine sandpaper to rough up the surface a bit. Then I primed the reel and applied a few coats of oil based paint. Then i put a clear coat on it.
  6. Also make sure that your reel is completely filled with line. When i fist started i had the same problem then i realized i wasnt putting enough line on my reels.
  7. I use an equivalent product and love them. They seem to be much more effective than pliers, especially with toothy critters and deep hooks.
  8. I use 20#powerpro with my sols and my prolite. haven't noticed a problem yet, and hopefully I wont, I do use a mono backing though.
  9. any idea on how to get in contact with any of these organizations
  10. I have a few rods that I just don't use anymore. They probably wouldn't be worth selling because of the cost of shipping. I don't want to just throw them out. But they have to go, I just don't have the room for them right now. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do with them? Thanks
  11. straight 20# Powerpro in green.
  12. Does anyone know where to get a spare spool for a diawa viento, or what spools are compatible with them?
  13. is this what you are looking for? http://www.***.com/Sizmic_War_Head_Weights_2pk/descpage-SWHW.html
  14. I've never had a moderate fast rod, and i guess I'm a little worried it will feel like a wet noodle with no backbone.
  15. I was looking at that exact model. I would want to throw mainly light poppers on it. But since you say you throw light t-rigs on it, its really encouraging.
  16. Looking into getting a topwater rod and was wondering if the powell crankbait rods can be used as such. Also, has anyone used it or any moderate rod for pitching? I know its not ideal and certainly wouldn't be the rods primary use, but I like to keep it versatile.
  17. I'm looking into getting that model veritas to throw senkos on. But I want to handle one before hand because I've heard they run a bit heavier than they are rated. With that being said, I cannot offer specific advice but would think that if the veritas is true to it's rating it would be great for throwing senkos around docks and heavier cover.
  18. I bought this rod with david p's recommendation. Outstanding rod IMO. For such a long stick it balances beautifully. I use it for the exact thing you're looking to use it for. It's plenty sensitive for flipping slop. The length allows me to fling frogs a mile and set the hook from quite a distance away. Buy this rod, you will not be sorry.
  19. is the measurement of the rod with the handle full collapsed of fully extended? I assume fully extended. If so, how much can the handle collapse? would a 7' rod become a 6'8"?
  20. Does anyone know why they stopped making these baitcasting reels?
  21. reel. Sorry i forgot they even made that rod.
  22. looks like their warranty is a one year limited warranty... http://www.abugarcia.com/support/warranties Does anyone use a veritas for topwater? I'm wondering what the best model choice might be for this application.
