Any Pelican Bass Raider Owners Out There?
I use a Harbor Freight 4x8 trailer. Bought it for $289 a couple years ago. On mine I put a sheet of plywood on top. Works fine.

Pulse Width Modulated trolling motor controller hack
Got a link to the one you bought? I have a foot controlled 5-speed motorguide. Would I hook this one up between the factory switch and the trolling motor, and leave the factory switch set to high? This way the PWM only sends whatever current I set it to? I might try this as on my small boat my setting 1 can sometimes be too slow but setting 2 just too much.

Any Pelican Bass Raider Owners Out There?
Hey guys. Any pics of mounting a modern foot controlled trolling motor on the box of a 8' Pelican? In my case I'm running a Bass Baby but more or less the same configuration. I currently have a Motorguide Bulldog which attaches to the front using a transom-style mount but I want to upgrade and get a variable speed unit. The 5 speeds of the Bulldog make it hard to get the right slow speeds I want, worse when the wind blows. Want to see pics of how folks mounted the base since it can get in the way on such a small boat.

What is your kayak fishing net?

How do you like your 12' jon boat?
I need to go to a dealer and see how small these 1240 boats really are. I didn't think they would be so tippy as suggested.

How do you like your 12' jon boat?
I'm going to upsize from my 8' Bass Baby and thinking of a 12' jon boat instead. In truth I wanted a 12' Carolina Skiff (J12) because of their various factory deck options but they are no longer making them. A 12' jon boat will still fit the bill for the small reservoirs and lakes I fish and all I really need is the casting platform I'll make for the front. It will be trolling motor only too. Are there any recommended models, and also interested in links to good ways to build the plywood platform and supporting it underneath. Thanks!

Honey hole bass had lockjaw all winter until this secret bait
Sounds like a clickbait title for a youtube video, right? Well it’s not. But my honey hole pond that usually gives up nice winter bass has been terrible since cold set in by early December. All my usual baits and all the recommended cold weather baits didn’t help. Ned, dropshot, jigs, deep cranks, deep rolling spinnerbaits...so many skunked trips! Water temps in this 3 acre pond have been in upper 30’s low 40’s. I guess it was only a secret bait to me as i’ve never tried it for bass. I finally tried a blade bait and the pond then gave up a few bass. FINALLY! I vertical jigged it in the deepest areas (13 to 16’) wherever I could mark fish. Question - should I just be twitching it up 6” or giving a 2’ loft and flutter back?

Difference between Graphite vs Carbon rod contruction?
I brought home a new Triumph TRS66MF spinning rod yesterday and realized I already had another TRS66MF in my garage that was 2 years old. The new one says it is 'SCII carbon' while the old one is 'SCII graphite' What's the difference? Is carbon an improvement or did they downgrade the materials?

New fishfinder I can move between kayak and BassBaby?
I want a fishfinder I can move back and forth between my kayak and my BassBaby. Preference is a Garmin, perhaps their new Striker Vivid 4cv? What is a mounting method that will make it easy to move the unit and transducer back and forth? I use the kayak most of the time, and ordinarily would use an in-hull ductseal method, but think I need some kind of arm that can be adjusted to fit both the 'yak and BassBaby with minimal fuss. Thanks for any suggestions!

Broken Megabass jerkbaits
I had some relatively Rapala jerkbait bills break. Rapala is sending replacements after I sent back the broken ones, receipt and their warranty form.

Anyone doing thru-hull transducer in a BassBaby?
I have access to the inside of my BassBaby hull via a 4" hole I had to cut for something else. I'm doing a thru-hull 'ducer with ductseal in my kayak which works great but the kayak provided a smooth and thin mounting. The hull of the BassBaby looks thicker and irregular.

Colors for drop-shotting and Ned rigs in deeper stained water
A pond I fish often is stained. Should I fish darker or lighter colored plastics when fishing 10 to 15' deep? I'm thinking there is so little light down there that a darker is best for the contrast?

Kastking or Piscifun 1000 or 2000 size for small stream bassing?
Thinking of trying one of these cheaper Kastking or Piscifun reels for the heck of it. I need a smaller 1000 - 2000 size reel go on a 7' Shimano Clarus light action rod that will be used for fishing small streams for small bass. I've never seen either brand in person so not sure how well built they are. The little Piscifun Carbon X looks appealing, interested in other recommendations in the Kastking and Piscifun line. Not sure where to get them either other than old threads referencing eBay.

soft plastic helgramites
I use them on a basic round head jig and a 2/0 hook. I use the Bass Pro hellgramites

Car Topping a PDL Kayak? Is it super difficult?
Yes, certainly doable. Some folks get a roof rack with an extension that can slide out over the side of the car. This gives you a place to lift and rest one end of the kayak. Then go to the other end and lift and slide it forward across the rest of the roof rack. Then the extension either slides back in out of the way or it detaches. This way you are only lifting approx. half the weight of the kayak at a time

Oldest Mono You Have Used?
I have a 5' loop of 10 lb. mono that has been holding up a substantial steer skull + horns in my garage since 1990. That's 30 years.

Light 12v battery for powering fishfinder in kayak
Wow, that Miady unit is about 1/3 the price of others. Almost too good to be true. The thing that discourages me about it is how people's reviews indicate there isn't a way to get warranty or other customer service.

Taco or roto paddle clip for Pelican Catch 100 kayak?
I want a more secure paddle clip to mount on my Pelican Catch 100 kayak. The 2 I'm thinking about are a taco clip or the YakAttck roto clip. I think I would mount it more or less in the same location where my paddle currently uses the factory bunji line although could see it being a little more forward too. Hoping someone with a Pelican Catch kayak has added one and can share what they did. Better pic

Light 12v battery for powering fishfinder in kayak
I have a lead acid battery from a game camera I'm using to power my Garmin 4+ fishfinder. It's a bit heavy, maybe 8"x4"x4". Wondering if there are any new lion batteries that will save me some weight.

Garmin Striker +4 - difference between the 77 and 200 kHz returns?
Finally getting some use out of the Garmin Striker +4 unit in my kayak. I still can't wrap my head around the difference in the 77 and 200 kHz returns. I use the split screen mode where I can see both 77 and 200 returns side by side. At times both seem to mark fish and structure but they mark them differently, and sometimes doesn't seem consistent. Is the 77 kHz return better at clarifying structure and the 200 kHz return better at showing fish? Yesterday I was getting what looked like fish returns. The 77 showed big arches, bright red in the center. The 200 showed much smaller returns, more like lines and blobs. Wasn't sure how to interpret that. If it matters I'm usually fishing 5' to 15'.

Duct seal'd transducer came loose in kayak hull (again)
I used the duct seal method to mount my Garmin Striker 4+ transducer to the inside hull of my Pelican Catch kayak. It worked great initially but has come loose a couple times. I press it back in place and the duct seal seems tacky enough to hold it again, but has come loose more than once. Is this normal? I did make sure the spot was clean. Seems to happen in colder weather. Any suggestions?
