  1. x2. i myself have no boat and i am restricted to fishing on foot. when i started using finesse my strike ratio sky rocketed! it doesnt mean you have to go out and get all new gear, just think a little more methodically and not as halfhazardly and you should see improved results.
  2. a fledgling mallard.we played with it in the boat and it ate all the bait! they sure do like crawfish dinner! ;D
  3. x2. the matt gill is probably one of the most realistic soft plastic bluegill imitations you will find. well worth the 20$!
  4. makes you thankfull for it thats for sure. baitcasters have such a huge impact in fishing it makes ya wonder what it would be like w/o em!
  5. im only 18, but i dont mind not catching anything. Just getting outdoors, spending time and sharing laughs with freinds and family away from the hustle and bustle of everday life is the best excuse i can think of for getting out on the water!
  6. 1. catch somthing over six pounds (easier said than done!) 2. get a boat ( my feet can only take me so far...) 3. try new presentations (swimbaiting, carolina rigging, and spinnerbaiting) 4. get out more and enjoy everything fishing has to offer!
  7. no, not at all. some people just cant get the knack for baitcasters. some people use cane poles. some use fly rods. it just boils down too catching fish.
  8. glenn couldnt have put it any more better than that! i dont use just spinning gear, but my main spinning setup is a 6'8" st croix mojo bass rod paired with a pflueger supreme reel with either 6 or 8 lb test, depending on cover. hope this helps!
  9. well, ive been using it on my spinning combo in 6lb. test. it works fine when the knot actually holds, but i dont like taking chances with that light of test. thanks for all the replys, im thinking of trying BPS flouro when i get the chance. Im usin old faithful right now, yozuri ultra soft is where its at!
  10. so i was researching for a college paper one night and came upon a pretty cool tidbit. i know this may be "old" news for some, but i sure didnt know about it! The very first baitcaster was invented in by a central kentucky local by the name of George Snyder of Paris, ky, just a couple miles down the road from where i live. it can be found in this link: http://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&q=cache:mBpH708mvskJ:www.kineticnet.net/kyrcd/smallmouth.pdf+stoner+creek+fishing+paris+ky&hl=en&gl=us&sig=AHIEtbRtROz8ETzvp8KvgP15NVEWryQMsA
  11. they work very well! the rage craw was the icing on the cake. no bigguns yet though.
  12. i know it must be somthing sentimental, but even with a 7 year old reel i seem to outcast my pflueger supreme. new reels are nice and i still use em, but i dont think all the new ones are all what they are hyped up to be.
  13. matt lures are absolute fish catchers, hands down. especially the ultimate bluegill.
  14. i bought a spool but i just dont like it. i have to tie the knot 2-3 times befor it will hold. yes i do wet it before i cinch it, but it keeps happening. i like what flourocarbon has to offer, but does anyone have a line of choice they would be willing to comment about?(besides yozuri, which is practically indestructible. ;D)
  15. ive boughtcountless flueger, qauntum and a couple of shimano low profiles over the years, but most of them either i dont like to use or break on me. ive had the same daiwa millionaire since 2002 and it just keeps on ticking. its just a tough little reel and does what i want it to the best. does anyone still use round baitcast reels? not bashing on low profiles, just courious.
  16. as long as it has fins, who cares! does look a little pale to be a carp, but who knows.
  17. had pretty good results trying out some monsoor jigs with rage craw trailers. caught 7-8 at my local golf course pond. not bad for second day out this year! all about the same size as pic, maybe bigger.
  18. i know kentucky is quite far from you, but i have been fishing quite shallow with good sucsess. tubes and swimbaits. slow is your best bet.
  19. i myself am just starting to use swimbaits, though i havnt much funds. i have confidence in them now. i recently bought a five inch mattlures ultimate bluegill, and it was worth every penny. my fist bass of this year was taken off of it, a 4 pounder which is big for me. i would say go for it.
  20. spring is great for catching big females. most fish are shallow that time of year, so top waters like buzzbaits can realy be productive. I my self like soft plastics. worms, creature baits, craws, ect. all work wonders. try reading the articles on this site. very informative!
  21. ok??? any real tips?
  22. anyone have any special tricks for fishing tubes in current(creek)? ive caught a couple smallies on em, but mostly end up catching everything but. 3" gitzit, and bitzy tubes are what im usin. thanks!
  23. my #1 go to for the last few years has to be the ***. any dark color, wacky or texas has worked, period. #2. 5" finesse worm made by open water called the huzzie. has a really small spade tail with awsome action on a shaky head. a no brainer and has also worked wonders. #3. i have recently started using these, and wow, i dont know why i never used em before. the original gitzit. black for dark water, watermelon for clear. thow it out. if a fish is about, they usually slurp it up! i usually use these three things until i find what they want to eat the most.
  24. for grubs in creeks, you should have plenty of extras with ya. elkhorn is notorious for eating lures. i usually end up bending the hook more than losing the whole bait. (gotta love yo zuri hybrid.) as far as weedlessness, try a small football if you end up losing a whole lot. ive used w/ good success. see ya on the 'horn! -jeff
  25. thanks all. the reason i did what i did was because i have a local lake at home that i fish the same exact way and load up on fish. Ill have to try some faster baits. i actually used a spinnerbait too, and spro frog on weed edges and such, but nothing. :-? oh well. new water syndrome. ;D
