Help me plan a trophy size trip.
If you wanted to try lake Fork Texas I can get you hooked up with everything you need but you would REALLY need to get a guide or prepare to be sad. I have seen way too many guys come down with monster fish goals just to go home with ZERO fish caught all week. I advised hotels ect. on the very first BassResource.com trip which was to Lake Fork. There were so few fish caught that the guys said it had to just be a bad week and they tried it a second year. After another year of very few fish they went to other lakes and have not been back. The big mommas are there and can be caught but they get hammered by the fishing pressure so much it takes different fishing tactics for the guys I know that are "catcher-men" not just fishermen. Lake Fork has made my big fish dreams come true many times. Good luck with your search.

Need more help with electrical?
I agree, all you need to do to comply with electrical code is to use your existing Junction box to tie on a length of wire, stretch it to your new location, make sure you have a work box probably metal to hold your fan. Tie your wires black to black, white to white and copper to copper. Twist your wires tightly and cap black and white wires with a yellow or red wire nut. After you do this you need to install a cover over your old box and yes it has to be accessible. The only question remaining is what gauge of wire do you use. To do this you will need to go to your circuit breaker panel, locate that particular breaker (hopefully you did this before starting) if it is a 20 amp breaker use 12-2 gauge romax wire with ground, it is a 15 amp breaker use 14-2 gauge romax wire with ground. They both will have a black wire, a white wire, and a bare copper wire. We just do not want to hear -- hold my beer and watch this. ;D

St Louis to the Boundary Waters every year
Hi WSB -- I was in Shanghi China and for some reason BassResource.com is banned there. I am back in S.Korea and glad to be back on the forums. It sounds like you have the passion as I do. I tell people that catching fish has very little to do with my successful fishing trips. I enjoy everything about my Canada trips, I even enjoy the mosquitos in the evenings. If it is warm enough for the "skeeters" it is warm enough for the Smallies to spawn. I have had 2 trips where a cold front came thru and we fished in our duck hunting outfits and the fishing was slow but normally we catch plenty with lots of bragging rights, great photos, and some great fillets. I stay in a small inexpensive cabin right on the lake and have a blast. It is some of the easiest fishing and catching I have ever done. Lake Fork on the other hand will humble an angler unless you know exactly where, when, and how, to fish. Email me at Barkskt@aol.com so we can further our discussion about this. A problem I have is that I will not know what my June schedule will be until maybe even as late as the last part of May. Please email me so we can visit. Kevin

St Louis to the Boundary Waters every year
I live south of Cape Girardeau and pull my boat from Lake Fork,TX home, then to Rainey Lake on the Canada side near International Falls in June. I have been doing this for about 10 years now and LOVE it. My fishing buddy passed away some years ago and I have been looking for someone with the passion for a trip like that ever since. I took my son but he is now married and they are expecting so he is out. Most people I have taken have caught more Smallies, Walleyes, and Northerns than they could imagine but they still would whine. "It is too far, it is raining, it is windy and waves", actually had one say their arms hurt from reeling in so many fish and wanted to go home-- so I pretty much decided I would either find someone with the passion or I would take my Golden Retriever. I am 53 so I have a few years left in me to go and enjoy the fishing, the sunsets, the scenery, the bears getting into our stuff, and just the feel of the place. Where do you go up north?

North Korea: The Fortress Nation (and fun with Google Earth!)
I have only ben here in Seoul Korea a couple of days but will be flying out of here for the next two weeks. It seems here at the airport that it is business as usual. There are demonstrations in the streets of S. Korea for the U.S. to quit war games and go home. There is shooting on an island about 30 miles from here and they are evacuating the island. The U.S.S. George Washington which is a nuclear aircraft carrier with its armada of support ships is off the coast (again about 30 miles away) flexing muscles. China has invited some high ranking officials from N. Korea for a summit on Tuesday. It is noon Monday here now so it won't be long to see if any progress will be made. It is not a comfortable feeling for sure. I just want to be on a good ole USA lake jerking lips.

Coming to Lake Fork in March
I spend lots of time on Fork and always see guys come there hoping to catch big. Very few guys figure it out without help at least for a day. Especially in March, there are so many different possibilities with the changing weather that time of year. If you get a guide for a day you should have a great trip, if you don't it might be a long week. The fat girls are there and with some help you should go home with a smile on your face. If you want to contact me I will confirm some good guides. Tom Redington is one of the very best if you can book him. There are a few other good ones and some that will just take your money. The good news is that I do not believe there is as much pressure on Fork esecially during the week as there was 8 years ago.

First Trip to Lake Fork
Congratulations on your Lake Fork success. Fork has been the best this spring I have ever seen. Most every angler I speak with are happy and catching fish. I have seen guys come to Fork for their week long trip and get skunked -- all week. What a great lake and a great year.

Lake Fork Report
Lake Fork is HOT HOT HOT!!! I just got back from 9 days on Fork and had the BEST trip ever there. Yes the wind can be a force to be dealt with but with some planning you can get out of it or at least put in close enough to stay out of the main lake when it is whitecapping. I like to use the wind and rain if it is not too bad. Seems like I have the lake all to myself and the fish get active as the pressure is off. I fished 2 days in the rain this week on Fork and it was awesome. I had 25 to 30 fish days and for Fork that is great for me. The spawn is on in the lower lake with fish all over on the beds. There are also post spawners starting about Dale Creek North. I always like the post spawn fish as they are easy to patten as they head out to about 8 to 12 feet of water to recover. Find the depth with cover near the spawning flat and you have big mamma bass. I always like watermelon red flake fluke, wacky, or jig this time of year and they work just go slow. Early and late I had success with a topwater walking the dog bait. I used a Sammy but a Zara Spook will work. I also had luck with a white spinnerbait with white blades, and after dark I would catch em on a red buzz bait. As you can see the bass were very active with the water temp in the 60's all week. It is time to catch some nice bass on Fork, hope this helps.

Hanging around the local airport when I was a kid sure has paid big dividends for me. Hope the young man has a great career ahead of him.

What a week, I really hope you can not top this.
Wish I could make all ok but all I know to do when life turns tough is: 1. Hang on as no matter how bad life gets, it won't last--no matter how good life gets, it won't last. 2. In life it doesn't matter how many times we get knocked down as long as we get up one more time than we hit the deck. 3. The hardest thing is to do the right thing when it seems everybody else thinks you are wrong. The tough love family problem will take lots of planning and perserverence. Hang in there and time will see things get better.

Black and Blue Jig Question
This is why I love BassResource.com!!! Thanks for the info. I know these work but never knew why. Hopefully it will work when I get back to Fork in a few days.

Black and Blue Jig Question
We all read about matching the hatch and we all have had success with black and blue jigs. Can someone tell me what the black and blue jig is supposed to simulate. Whay do they work so well in cooler, darker water? What does the bass think it is?

Lake Fork Report
I have not fished that side of Glade but will be back there for about 2 weeks starting the end of the month. Will let you know.

Lake Fork Report
Got to fish Lake Fork for about 6 hours. The water temperature in Glade was 49 to 54degrees. We were able to get a few bites and boated a nice under Bass (2 1/2 lb) on a shad colored Rapala X-Rap. Later in the day we caught a 21" 8+pounder on a black and blue jig with black and blue trailer. The bites were surprisingly strong for the water temp. We got most bites on wood with only a few in the grass. Glade is one of the first spots on Fork to warm so we had lots of company while fishing. We did see a few other bass caught but with the weather warming I suspect the prespawners will be moving up to beds soon. We tried the old standby of Red Rattletrap in the grass but never got a bite on it.

Going to fork for the 1st time: Any help?
Seems like I will have lots of company on Fork this spring. When all else fails and you think there is not a fish within 100 miles try a watermelon red flake fluke in the emerging grass. Pop it up and let it settle then repeat -- oh yeah-- then set the hook. A wacky worm will catch lots of under fish but you probably want a big mamma. I have not been there for a bit but will be there next week for awhile and the black/blue 3/8oz jig with black sapphire baby bush hog trailer (cut it into at the arms and use the back half) in about 8-12 feet of water alongside wood between the channel and the spawning flats on the northern end of the lake should be HHHHHOT. Glade is where the spawn starts on Fork so if you don't find fish go to the left side of Glade and jerk some lips. Let us know how it goes. BC57

If you could ask Denny Brauer a question.......
Of course D.B. is a role model, one of the greatest anglers, probably the best jig fisherman, and is a class act. There seems to about always a question on the forums about color --so-- 1. What is the criteria he uses for color selection on a given lake? 2. What color does he start with and how does he make his choices? 3. What type line does he prefer when using a jig and why? 4. Most info says 99% of the bites with a jig come on the fall but D.B. won the tourneyment in New York a few years ago by soaking the jig. Was that a normal technique or because of an unusually slow bite? Thanks for asking and I can't wait to see how your ride goes.

Lake Fork Questions, Help
Hi Cliff, Here is a place to get some online topo map help. http://www.angling-technologies.com My prime time is March, April, and early May as that is when the heavy mommas are in the shallows. The biggest mistake I find is that most anglers fish the banks. That is fine for sight fishing for some buck bass guarding the nest but the fat sows are laying back against cover in 8 to 12 feet of water where a reaction bite will work. Be sure to have some watermelon red flake lizards, flukes, and jigs with baby brush hog trailers. The other advice was right about the west side of the Bridge in Williams as I caught some of my nicest bass there last spring. Several up to 9 pounds. The south side of Williams has some very nice spots as well. Just let me know how I can help. I am NOT an expert but have learned quite a bit about fishing Fork over the years and get pretty lucky. I will be there March 30th for the full moon and be there for about 10 days, give me a shout as I normally have a seat open.

Lake Fork Questions, Help
Absolutly there are lots of good places you could fish and expect quality fishing from a very small boat. I have been all over that lake and caught 3 bass over 9 pounds last spring and they were all within 100 yards of the ramp. Fishing Fork is all about location and presentation. The best catching I have seen on Fork was out of a 16 foot jonboat from an older husband and wife team. My first choice would be to put in on Little Mustang at the Lighthouse Ramp. If we are there you could be my guest and put in on the East side of Williams for some great fishing. There are also many ramps on the other side of the lake by the Minnow Bucket but that is some big water for a small boat. If there are any questions I can help with I will be happy to try. My wife and I have a place there and I am very familiar, just let me know.
