  1. You bolt them, no screws to back out,...ever I will be building a tutorial with pics this spring
  2. Well, certain people had to (and weren't happy about it till they realized adding a period also worked so they still had their name) because of the glitch and a few for other miscellaneous reasons, like yourself Muddy, but when you have a good amount of time on the board and everyone knows you, to change your name, sends yo back to New member status essentially. I'll look and see a name I never saw and automatically think, "new guy". Just sayin,....Y'all in witness protection or sumpthin'?? ;D
  3. Trolling motor, much more versatile. You could easily sell the motor if it runs. Or, it's always nice to have if you fish a larger lake with a longer run (save the t/m battery for actual fishing time) but a 2.5 isn't much quicker than a good t/m and battery.
  4. A 55 lb motor pushes a 12 just fine. We use all 55's. I use up to 3 of them but 1 is fine. Go all day. and BTW, welcome to BassResource. You ask,...we answer Our consulting fee consists of you coming back and posting pics in the "My tournament or outing" section when she's up a runnin'. Fair enough?
  5. See the hole in the bow seat on my boat? we made one in each of the benches too. Dig out some foam and use nut/bolt/lock washer. Area is great for storage now too. Drift anchor, etc. Use car door edging for a finished edge on the hole. I used a cut out tool to cut mine. Many tools will work. My buddies seats aren't like that anymore, his are like mine now.
  6. Floor decks. 3/8 cdx plywood, urethaned and carpeted. Lay it on the ribs so water flows underneath. Notch out where ribs run up the sides, holds it in place. Lift out to clean. Easy, light. Replace every few yrs for "new again" boat.
  7. No worries, 2 can stand and fish in a floor decked (like mine) 1236 (12' long, 36 in wide) That boat is a 1964, they were shaped differently now. Now they are narrower, hold on a sec, I'll get another pic
  8. See link in my last reply on previous page. Yes, a 12 is much more stable than a 10.
  9. 12-I suggest you floor it like mine. Top decking is still within reason if you go lightweight and strong but not recommended if you fish with a partner often. If you fish with a partner go THIS route
  10. There are no 10' jons that are 42" wide. Measure again. (Center of boat, on floor, side to side) Yes, you can stand in a 10' jon. You can also stand on an inflatable raft for about 5-20 seconds. Would I FISH, standing,..in a 10 ft jon. Absolutely not. Add the weight of your gas can to the weight of the motor and that is how much needless weight you have in this boat. You won't want to take it anywhere that a t/m wouldn't be plenty for anyway. Now add the fact that you are carrying around a 3 gal bomb for no reason. (I'm a smoker) A 12' jon and a 10' are 2 different animals I can run laps in my 12. I could play a game of "around the world" in a 14 . In a 10,..I would keep my butt planted in the seat, centered, and fish. Often times, folks think they have a 10 when they really have a 12. When measuring, also measure bow to stern for the heck of it. Also understand that you'll get a variance of replies. Ask yourself this. Can I do it? yes Can I do it comfortably? yes Can I do it safely? yes Can I do it safely and comfortably? yes So, although All replies here can be "correct", know that my replies will always address whether you can do it safely and comfortably. My suggestion is the most comfortable way to be safe. You will see a 10' jon in this lifetime, ....with 2 full grown adult males in it and a case of beer..... It will have about 2-4 inches of freeboard. When you do,.......think of me. Now you got my 2 cents,...plus a nickel
  11. "I got some free baits, and in return I wrote them an article about their baits." (above) No,...that's just a testimonial,....I mean this stuff "After doing so, they asked if I would like to be on their pro-staff. I agreed to and in return do articles on the internet and help with some fishing expo's in the future."
  12. the beginning, 12 pages- http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1130724424/0 Follow up- http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1170104912/0
  13. There will be no standing It's gonna be tough to keep that from tipping with the weight on the back as it is. Add a trolling motor and battery and man, that's one unstable unit. My advice for a ten is to fish in it alone with a transom mount t/m with the battery up front and cable extensions run up in the channel along the side, under the ribs. Keep all gear and weight centered.
  14. Ugh Temp was 54 that day, dropped to 28 the next day and has stayed there with some snow added in. Senko77 is here for the weekend but the weather just won't cooperate. (39 degree water+ 25 mph snow laden wind + someone elses kid in a jon boat=bad idea.) >
  15. and so is my breakfast............
  16. This is a great way to learn a bunch or to increase your versatility. I usually am apprehensive before fishing with a complete stranger but often very glad I did afterwards. Great way to meet various types of folks you normally wouldn't interact with for whatever reason. Have a blast guys, can't wait for the reportback. LOTS OF PICTURES!!
  17. Where can we go to read the articles? Link please.
  18. Yesterday, we had thunder/lightning,....during the day,......while it was snowing. Now that's trippy. Lightning during the day is really weird,...it's like an exaggerated "Blink". Your brain stumbles on what it just took in.
  19. Title scared me a bit,lol,....Gidge and I had this discussion.......lol
  20. AWESOME Carl!!!! No pictures or did the camera fall off the boat when you parked it ?? (I've seen first hand how THAT can go,lol) (I know, I know,...you've learned since then, lol) Nice accomplishment,....breaking your PB will be a good warm up for Gville! Have a blast and beat that PB AGAIN!!
  21. huh? Sunlight has everything to do with it. Clarity vs penetration.
  22. Just the fact that you are thinking these questions ahead of time, assures me you'll have no issues. Fluke and Ronnie gave great advice and these are 2 of the above mentioned "great" people that will be around you. Any questions, just ask one of them.
