  1. I have high doubts on this one. I have a boston whaler jet and it's a larger unit than you are imagining. The engine is your basic 2 stroke, but not like a motorcyle,it's larger. about 2.5 square. Then there the jet pump. This also has to sit "inside" the boat meaning all but the nozzle and intake have to be "above the floor or bottomofthe boat. You have to go through the hull on an angle. Tricky. Will take up tons of area in your boat. To give you an idea,..I remove the cooler fromin front of the center console (straps down) and the console is hinged and lifts towards the bow. In there, there is a motor well and this is where the power plant is. The jet assembly runs alll the way to the rear. this boat is 16.5 with platform. Just so you have a size realtion. Oh, it was a Yamaha waveIII 650cc but I switched it out with a Yam wave III 701cc. You can't just rebuild a top end on these, you have to replace the whole thing. (somthing else to keep in mind if you are buying motors that have sat. As long as they weren't blown, you can rebuild but if the skirts on the pistons are damaged, the whole motor is junk except for the electronics bundle because of those aluminum bits that were bouncing around in the crankcase. Careful, do alot of research and good luck.
  2. Matty has the idea. We are expecting showers today. We were going to fish the sunrise but when we heard "rain coming", we decided to wait till it starts. Less pressure also
  3. Is that what you cashed in on for the fish? Or won in a tourney? Fish are sold at the dock to a "brokerage firm" who then gets it dressed, iced and packed in a coffin. Coffins are loaded on trucks and up to Logan airport (Boston) by 10pm and off to Taiwan or Japan for the early morning auctions. Lots of details in between, different types of deals are made, I had to get burned on the first fish to learn. It was an A- grade, 541lbs dressed. Should have been 7 or 8k alone. I learned fast. There is a sales ticket framed in the office at the dock in Marschfield Mass. Fish sold for $21,200. Like they say in California,...this ain't tournament fishin',lol!! Dude,........I have EVERY confidence that this group of people can all but talk the fish into the boat for you! Go to the appropriate forum and tell us exactly what you are doing. Surely, we can re-direct you to go meet some Grit lips in person! A post like that will get special attention,...noone should suffer so.
  4. ok, no list. We will leave list maintenence to the member challenge, lol. Just PM someone for their addy that you think would be up forit. I'm suremany will be and if you can't think of anyone, look here for guys that thought it was a good idea but havn't gotten it yet. M_Fly- Remember, this is to put mojo INTO, not to use for mojo. Pack it with mojo and send it on. Preferably you can still take it to the Big Bass Splash, just make sure you rub it on the fish that gets you and Willy one of those Tritons! Rock- Absolutely not but sure wouldn't hurt! Remember that this stemmed from tuna fishing so specie isn't so important. It could be your daughters bluegill if it adds 1 more person to the pot!
  5. Ok,..hear me out. This is one of my nieces. The girl can fish. Age 6. 5 wt fly rod Stick with me. This is a picture that shows my old "tuna charm" neclace. closer This is made of a chunk of bone carved and polished in the shape of a fish on a hemp choker with a huge snap lock swivel for a clasp in the back. I fished Cape Cod Bay for 3 yrs, learning, zero-ing, and learning some more,...no tuna for me. Learned a ton and made the connections that eventually had me steering in the right direction. Now all I need was lady luck,...or a little mojo. A girl I was dating had seen this neclace somewhere and bought it for me just cause it was cool. Called it the "tuna charm,...gonna change the tides" Guess what. Tuna for me. I hit 4 tuna the first week of the season bringing in a respectable 13k+. Game on So one day, the tuna charm finally wore through at the clasp and all was lost. I put it away and forgot about it. Well I found it again cleaning out my parents house as they were selling. My niece was with me and I got to tellin' tuna tales. She offered to make me a new choker for it and get it back in service. I went to their house today and it was done. Awesome, Love it!! Thanks babydoll!! (she will be following this post at home with my sister) Well, in her spare time, they were shopping at a trinket store (they live on the ocean) and my niece picked up this piece and bought it for uncle Russ. When she got home she built it into a keychain for me. Now this is what I want to do. I want to send this to someone on the board and have them take it fishing. (Please be camera ready) Take it fishing, catch a fish, rub the charm on the fish, take a pic and send it on to the next guy. In places like Georgia where a group of guys fish locally together, I expect it to move well. If randall and fluke are fishing together, ctach one. Rub and photo and hand it to the other guy in the boat. If you pass Ryan in your travels that night, get it over to his boat and so on. PACK THIS THING!. Post all pics under this thread. Send it on to another member. Don't tell anyone where it's going. I want to send this thing around the country or even the world now that BR is international. Build it full of mojo and we can figure out the best use for it later. My offering would be to get it to someone who deserves all our mojo. Someone like Clay Dyer. Second isn't good enough for a soul so large,...let's build this thing up to be a mojo bomb that he can take on tour with him next year. He does so much for others, I think it's time a group like ours did somthing for him.Thoughts? TRAVEL PATH Low_Budget_Hookers East Greenwich, Rhode Island Joe Stravato Ashaway. 6. That's a drag,.....we don't get it in New England.
  7. I know, I know,....but Texas is too far away from my family
  8. pfunk- pretty sure it was hijacked, it was posted about previously FC-What are the chances of knowing where all the big fish live in a 200 acre impoundment. I have fished it for about 20 yrs and I know where quite a few of the king/queen class live. I'm sure I'm catching the same fish yr after yr and seeing them as they go from 4's into 5's and so on (don't laugh, that's big in RI,lol) We know many of the deep fish personally also. 3 of them even have names. Is there a chance that there is a 9 somewhere in there that I havn't met yet?? I have fished the entire body, top to bottom, side to side, many times. Through the years, the learning has narrowed down the search as I started figuring out the larger class fish. Could I have this place owned? Is it actually possible iswhat I'm asking. In your opinion.
  9. Skwerl wasn't annoyed, he was just saying what I was thinking. We can't give you an accurate answer without specifics. If you don't need an accurate answer than sure,..$900 is fair. Read what he wrote, those T/M's go from $150-$1200. Whichever one comes with boat will make a big difference in the price!
  10. Showroom condition is right! Very clean. Hope you guys have Good luck with her! Definately follow skwerls advice. I personally, would PM "ben" and ask for his advice. A little now can save you alot later. Time and money.
  11. Wow, that's a tough one. I would fish with pretty much anyone that wants to. Yup,...everyone (not at once though, too much pressure, lol) I would start with this group RW Fluke KU Glenn 5basslimit rolo avid Tom Redington George Welcome Randall DDBasser fishgrules fishingfrenzy Drums madhouse27 basser89 ouchitabassmaster(jim) joshkeller Chevy (if no fishing available,...dinner would be fine) Reelady Will lightninrod capt cali earthworm vyron t mike reelmech and on and on and on Can't believe noone mentioned "Chevy"
  12. Well one of them has like 3/4 life left and that one's fine. The other one was in need of replacing and is total toast now. I'm replacing both. Not taking chances with my fishing! Thanks for the replies. Thanks to Ben for PM.
  13. I just got a call from my buddy where I keep my boat. I had 2 diehard batts charging on floor of jon boat and forgot to pull plug. Batt.'s were submerged for 5-10 hrs in rainwater. He pulled them out and pulled the plug. Am I screwed for tomorrow morning? Could they be junk? Caps were tight if that matters. Had about 3 inches of water above them.
  14. ok I'll bite. I don't get it.
  15. I post alot about night fishing and my reason is that I'm just not a cranker. I don't do it during the day so I don't at night either. I'm sure it would work the same as it does during the day. To me, night fishing is day fishing with a light. Nothing I do differently. I'd be curious to know how you do at night crankin'. Sounds like a good challenge for you. One you are into anyway. (slick name change G (yup,...I'm just gonna call you by your next name in line because it was the name of a good friend of mine that was killed and I miss sayin' it. OK G?)
  16. Non-stop banter. It's a part of the whole experience. As to if I talk to the fish,.....ask anyone on the board that has fished with me. I have a pattern that can get funny as anything,...swearing, name calling, reaaaallly insulting a big pig is what triggers 'em sometimes You're mother's fat 'n ugly,.....go get her, I'll tell her to her face that overweight slug. "Full-figured" went out in the 50's lady, today it's called obesity you rednecked, bucket faced Bottom dweller! What would like on your twinkie redneck? A liitle gold flake maybe?...Some cajun sauce and garlic?..... and so on,....seems to work once in a while, lmao Just last night, Redtail commented that maybe we should bring a bull horn next trip so I can really tell 'em how I feel, lol In all seriousness, it depends who I'm with. Usually with someone new or a recently new partner, I just think out loud. Everything I am looking at and why, I try to vocalize. This is kind of how I teach if you want to call it that. Often I am commenting about what is on the finder, Explaining why I casted where I did instead of where I didn't and why. Often, the results are very satisfying when you describe what you are trying to do and it actually happens. Great confidence builder for the student. Not trying to come off like a teaching guru, I am just speaking about when I am with someone who is at or below my level. I'm very good at shutting my mouth and opening my ears when I'm in someone elses back yard. I hope to learn quite a bit from Tom Redington at Fork next year for example. Can't wait to be the student.
  17. I guess I never really answered. I'll fish to 20ish if it's triggering a bite. I won't try and tough it out. Depends on the direction also with my lake. I'm assuming we are talking about "out in the open" though. With a north wind, many of our coves are fishable, south is the opposite. (duh) Ithe main lake body is just that and it doesn't matter, wide open. I'm only in a 12 ft jon and although it's extra wide and deep (1964), anything over 20 and I drift way too fast and it's not safe to use the sock over the side. If I tie it off the bow,I drift too fast also. I think I'll get the next size sock up for that. Does anyone know of any inherent dangers in using an over-sized sock than is rated for your boat? I use a sock for a 14 ft and I think the next one is for a 20'. GW- Thanks for the wake up poke. I've been around a few of those in salt water but not fresh. We have a sand bar that drunks like to try and carve through after the bars close and they race up the bay in their little weiny boats. Usually very ugly.
  18. Very Jiggy morning. Caught about a dozen and then the sun cameup and shut down the bite. Lost 1 hog on a senko but the 1/8oz jig reigned supreme.
  19. Although our stlye of fishing is "finesse", that would apply to the size and weights of our offerings but they are always offered on rods that can take it. Lightest I use is a med power spidershaft and even that can be "iffy". The bulk of the line-up is MH. Keep in mind that a 5 lbr is a hog up here, lol. I couldn't imagine going lighter if I lived in Fla., Tx or Cali.
  20. Avid has been fighting tendinitis all yr. I am finding with my increased hours on water this year that I am developing somthing similar. My body is a mess. I have a knot behind my shoulder blade from steering the transom mount, tendenitis in top right forearm (yes, that's from fishing, knock it off, lol) and a "thingy" on the knuckle where my reel sits that the doctor is convinced is a part of human evolution. lol, says all people that hold a rod 8 hrs a day will develop one. Any pros got one of these? (finger next to pinky) **Avid mentioned somthing once about a forearm wrap that has a small air bladeder in it. I ended up getting one for the tendenitis and it's is helping alot. I just feel dumb wearing it. I only use it when it gets bad, probably a dumb idea, I need to wear it full time when fishing. ***Avid- If you are just hanging around with nothing to do, hop in your truck and take a road trip north. I got an extra bed here (couch) and if we fish too much,....we can share an ambulance, lol.
  21. 2 words that can change the opinion of everyone above (except Randall due to pumping limitations) DRIFT ANCHOR We use these commonly in salt water but I got one for a 14 ft boat that works like a charm on my 12. My ability to fish in weather has doubled.
  22. No,resin won't stick. Correction,...it will,..but not for very long. If you drill out leaking rivets, replace with a tapered head bolt w/ nut and a drop of 3m 5200 on each. The rivets used on jon boats are "stamped" rivets. Not the same thing you load in your rivet gun. Careful who you let weld the boat if that's an option. You can trash the whole boat in seconds. coat the board you use for the transom with resin before installing.
  23. I'm in Jim's Boat. Believe it or not, I don't get alot of topwater bite in the mornings. Sometimes but certainly not often. Slow moving larger baits. Start shallow, move deeper. It's 1:03am here, I'll be on the water in an hour. I'll let you know what worked for today when I get in.
  24. Lake Fork was my first experience in dealing with freshwater guides. One thing I noticed about the guy we hired that was a good business move was that his "guarentee" of fish was only good if you use his gear. Rod/reel were all Kistler/shimano combos so no liability there. Provided all the tackle. Smart move. I don't know if he had a deal with Kistler but if I were Kistler, I would stock his boat with the current line, 4 each!! They are essentially "on water demo's". I was persoanlly looking at those rods and was excited that I would get to try one before I bought one.
