  1. This is a matter of power as opposed to operational ease. These motors come up to 650 lbs of thrust. A group of guys compete on an "electric only" lake and the race for the good spots has them mounting 3 and 4 motors and up to 8 batteries just to be a little quicker. That's ALOT of $$$. Just trying to find an alternative or a better , more cost efficient way. Then again, these things probably aren't cheap!
  2. After researching the heck out of the trolling motor dilemma faced by anglers fishing electric only lakes, I came upon a thought. What about side thrusters from a larger vessel? Many saltwater boats have "side thrusters". These are basically an electric motor mounted in the hull to pull a boat sideways. Used for dockage of large vessels. (or smaller ones with bad drivers, lol) I looked into some and it seems they come from 50lbs of thrust, up to 650 or so depending on brand! Any engineers out there that could tell me if it would be possible to mount this in a jon boat? They steer with a small joystick. How cool would that be? Could easily be modified into a foot control I bet too. I'm not sure of power supply, but even the huge ones are relatively small physically. Why havn't motor builders addressed the fact that there is a need for affordable power above 102 lbs (excluding the new 3 and 4 hp,...I said affordable", lol) for small craft where "electric" is the primary power source? These are the thrusters I was looking at. Small scroll box along bottom 1/3rd of screen. http://www.side-power.com/sidepower/index.php?id=16
  3. One polish I know of is called "noxon". http://housewares.hardwarestore.com/35-176-metal-polishes/noxon-7-metal-polish-145359.aspx
  4. Um, that would be where it was snagged. It's a WEST technique. (sorry Roger, lol) Mattlures- any hint as to what the 21.5 was caught on? Baby bluegill perhaps?
  5. I don't have it , waiting for senko77 to send it to me, I can change the format and post it. I lost it when my puter crashed.
  6. I think it is better for anglers, not just kids, who are looking for sponsorship, to learn the lesson about grammar right here by folks who will help and guide as opposed to them sending a company a letter that will embarress them. I don't think anyone here is bashing at all. Many of us grew up with an emphasis on grammar that is quickly diminishing in todays society. In the age of text messaging, on-line chatting, etc, the english language is being destroyed but this is how the kids are learning it. However, the professional business world is still just that. When a corporate executive recieves a letter from someone looking for affiliation and it's filled with "lol's" , "IMO's", the word "I" used in lower case, sentences that begin with lower case letters, and words spelled like they sound, they quickly move on to the next applicant.
  7. There are lots of metal conditioners and polishes that can bring those back to new before you rivet them on. Otherwise, the rivet head will be "new" looking but not the tag. Just a suggestion. I also used brightside by interlux with a brush. (Too many angles and ribs for a roller in mine) The paint is designed to "flow out" but strict care needs to be taken with the prepwork. THe more detailed the prepwork, the more "flow". Expensive paint but great stuff.
  8. clear water rule- Long cast gets the bass. Get that lure as far away from the boat as possible. use Natural colors- greens, blacks and browns.
  9. Yup, a bass can eat pretty much any fish it lives with up to 1/3rd it's own size. In other words, a 9lb bass can easily suck down a 2 lb trout.
  10. or use common sense and pocket the money you would spend on 2 more 80's and 4 more batteries and reduce the weight of the boat instead. I notice alot of the Ga. guys boats have alot of weight in them. 4-8 batteries,5/8"+ decks. Lots of room for weight reduction. Or you can buy 3 more motors to make up for that weight and then another one for the batteries you just added, etc. Is Georgia the only place this is in practice? I've never seen it mentioned anywhere else.
  11. That sure came out classy looking, right down to the vintage logo,NICE TOUCH! LOOKS GREAT!! Now it's time to hunt for a 1957 antique motor! like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1957-EVINRUDE-FISHERMAN-CLEAN-OUTBOARD-BOAT-MOTOR-5-5_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ111122QQitemZ4628782877QQrdZ1
  12. I know Darrin had some made for his 2 Loomis rods that he had repaired. It is his name in a certain font. He has pics too, PM him if he doesn't reply soon (HawgHunter)
  13. OK,...I emailed MinnKota today and asked this: "Hi, My name is Russ and I am a staff member at BassResource.com. I was wondering if you could clear somthing up for me. We have a post that has members arguing nonstop. It is the multiple trolling motor (t/m) question. I read a fact sheet put out by Minn Kota explaining how to figure out the speed your boat can go without breaking plane. My jon boat came out to 4.6 mph which according to my gps, I am achieving with my endura 55. The controversy is that there are a group of anglers in Georgia who fish an "electric motor only" lake. These guys have 3 and sometimes 4 electric motors on a 14 ft jon boat. According to your fact sheet, is this just a waste of money? THey are not getting up on plane with the 3 motors so are they just pushing more water? I know it doesn't make business sense to say that they are wasting their money buying 3 of your motors instead of 1 bigger one but is there any science to what they are doing in Georgia? Thanks, Russ" This was their reply: Minn Kota to me More options 7:08 am (7 hours ago) Using multiple motors on a boat does not appreciably increase your speed. However, it does increase the amount of weight your motors will be able to handle at a cruising speed. The pitch on our props is a very shallow 4 pitch, which makes for pushing weight, but sacrifices speed. None of our motors go any faster than 3-5 mph. Adding additional motors will not change that. Dave H. So, essentially, you can't go any faster, but you will be able to add more weight and still sustain max speed. BUT Max speed does not change.

  15. Ben,..no need for angst, lol. You've helped us out here, at least me anyway. Fred also answered a couple other questions through PM's for me. I appreciate the effort and the new resource.
  16. Here ya go: http://www.jamestowndistributors.com/userportal/search.do?freeText=Viny.Lux%20Metal%20Wash&page=GRID&history= You can buy all interlux products here. It's in my neighborhood, if you have a problem finding somthing, let me know.
  17. Yup,...go to lake Fork! lol I'm from RI and man, it was snowing today! We had a couple of days in the 60's last week amnd now the temps are on a steady downfall again! This is killing me! Read some of the spring articles in the banner above. As for us, we start hard with jigs and rattle traps in the shallows from ice out till prespawn.
  18. Lee told me he had recently caught a monster nearby on a senko I believe and then tried for this one but it wouldn't take it so in went mr. shiner to git 'er done. He said it wasn't much of an aggressive fight as much as one of weight. Senko77-Send me that pic again if you can and I'll post it. I didn't save it last time. Lee's parents are leary of the internet as all parents should be. This is the reason he isn't on too much and also the reason I am going to black out his face in the pics. Senko will tell you, this is a very internet weary family (applause) and it took all of a month for them to let us tell everyone here about this accomplishment. I'll will personally back up his story. I have spoken with the IGFA directly concerning this submission.
  19. On march 23rd, Lee Ellis, of the same member name, caught a bass weighing 18.35 lbs, surpassing the previous jr. world record of 17.22 by more than a pound! The bass was taken from Lake (miami) Garcia. The fish was caught on a live shiner and has been submitted for certification according to Rebecca Reynolds of the IGFA. Lee is a 15 yr old Georgia native who became a BR member back in February. We're honored to have you on the board, and good luck with your IGFA approval. WAY TO GO LEE!!
  20. We just go directly to the seat with an aggressive thread wood screw w/ 3m 5200 on the threads so it won't back out.
  21. Yup, After some more reading and a quick email to optima battery, I stand corrected. A battery "go-to" member would be a great idea. Lots of confusion about batteries and on many different levels, Charging over-charging maintenence 24v vs 12v on board chargers wiring in series or parallel etc Techniology is also an added source of confusion with the spiral, or gell cell batt's becoming so popular. Hopefully, he would be a willing member, sounds like a great resource. So yea, thanks Ben and Avalon, I stand corrected, or as I like to put it,..."re-educated"
  22. WHAT?? never put a battery on concrete or any ground surface! The battery is instantly grounded and will drain down to nothing. It will drain low enough to damage cells. You will never get as much charge into it as you could have before. This has nothing to do with staibning the floor. Personally, if your battery is boiling over and leaking water, you've got bigger problems.
  23. I agree w T-Mike. I would save a little more or go with a wider 12. (width and gunnel height go hand in hand when evaluating sizes)(in other words, you won't find a 1236 with higher gunnels, you would move to a 1242)
