  1. Avid- My 2 main go to's are jigs and senkos, fished just like you do during the day. We never really fish "cover" at night as opposed to RW's writings on the deper open water tactics he uses during the day. We will fish up into the shallows and flats looking for that roaming eater but mostly fishing the routes in deeper water that the fish use constantly including when moving to feed at night. Again,..there were some really extensive threads on this last summer/fall. Search option can really pay off for this one if you be patient and really hone the criteria. Oh yea, topwater tends to be way on or shut right off. Doesn't mean they aren't willing a little deeper.
  2. A wide bite wood screw will grip pretty well, you just may need to run a phillips head over them once a year. Pre drill the hole with a small bit first. Careful because the bit will try and bite into the carpet making it twist itself up the drill bit. One of the nice touches about my boat is the seats have a "lip" of about 1" that overhangs so I was able to carpet directly to the aluminum and tach unerneathe with a 1/4 inch finish rail. clean.
  3. I usually float on water,,....sometimes air. unknown '64 jon boat boston wahler steiger craft
  4. Glenn-assuming you are speaking of Bigtex. If you are banned, it shows up as ex-member also, correct?
  5. hey,,..I think I'm available whenever that date is.... very appropriate post title. bonus tip- when fishing Marlin, be sure to be aware of the upstroke. If all your pressure is pulling "up", and that line snaps or the hook pulls,...you'll have either a broken nose, lip, orbital socket or all of the above. Always be aware of your pressure on the fish. Catch 'em up
  6. For us there is no special bait for nighttime. Of course the jig/craw is there as a staple as always. What works during the day will work at night. Dispelling a myth-Baits do not have to be huge and do not have to be black. The best way to pick a "hue" is to hold it up at the sky and see how prominent the silloutte is. The more prominent, the better. This can change from night to night depending on cloud cover, moonlight, etc. (don't get me wrong, both "huge" and "black" can work quite well, lol.)
  7. it's not me,...it's......... THE DARK SIDE Another forum member, metalhack, who came down from Mass. to fish with me one night.
  8. 4/5 of my time on the water last year was spent during low to no light hours.
  9. Looks good man! Amazing how each step, the boat gets cleaner and cleaner. I'm thinking , navy blue w/ chrome lettering Oh yea, I'm pretty sure we have the same boat! If yours is a 14, you're a little longer but definately the same make and definately the same era. These things are the stablest jons I've ever been in. They are a hair wider than most although in KU's it is decieving because the fron deck makes it "look" slender although it really isn't at all. Higher gunnels than other jons too. Only a couple inches or so but it makes a world of difference when you are leaning over the edge to lip a fish or take a wiz or whatever. KU, do me a favor, check your vin #. PM me with it, let's compare. Mine is a '64 according to the first 2 numbers.
  10. Do a search for "night fishing" lots of stuff here from last summer, quality writings. Also do a search for "the dark side" to get a slighty more hard core take on the night game. and welcome [move]TO THE DARK SIDE[/move]
  11. But in texas there is also the other side of the coin. Like all the farms near fork that have fertilizer making it's way into Fork encouraging lots of growth. Do't know how it affects spawning but those bass didn't get that big by not being able to reproduce, that's for darn sure!
  12. but the only one you'll need Thanks sensei
  13. NO trolling motor on an inflatable. Don't forget,....those come with a 60lb battery, lol. Jon boats- very east to find a used one cheap. On my ups route, I left notes on every door that had an unused jon sitting in the yard. Can't even tell you how many call backs I got. I got to choose between like 6 boats all under $300. I ended up with a very wide/stable 1964 12' with trailer for $500. Like I said, there were lots to choose from in the $100-300 range but this one is unique and very heavy duty. Look for the ones with moss on them, they go cheap, people will give YOU money to get rid of it. Often they are left behind by a son that moved out, etc. so when you offer $100 to get rid of the yard clutter, people jump. Drive around a lake community and YOU WILL get lucky. Fall is the best time for this price wise. With summer com ing, some may be hesitant to sell thinking they will use it finally this summer,NOT. They realize in the fall that they never used it AGAIN and are very willing to go spend you $100 somewhere. This is what you can do over the winter if you get one: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1119359773/0 Good luck!
  14. 3m 5200!! marine adhesive/sealant It's what they use at the factory. Getting the old one out may be an issue because they use 5200 and it's also an adhesive. This may be why the previous owner went for the "quickie" solution. Good luck!
  15. I'm not married. Never was and probably never will be but I've had to mold more than 1 girlfriend to my lifestyle. 1. Don't lie. Never gets you anywhere. If you think you got away with it, the truth will come out in the future, usually at an even worse time. 2. Ask if she'd rather have you go to the bar after work with the guys or go out on a boat fishing with 1 guy. Seriously, every g/f I've had sees the light on that one. She knows where I am and that I'm not being bad, there are much worse places I could be. As to getting out of the doghouse,........I really don't know. I do my best to never get put there,...but like I said,.....I'm not married, lol.
  16. And how about a big round of applause for the winner..... [move]KenDammit28!![/move] WOOHOO...Good Job!!
  17. You know you are learning when.... You can guess the answer of your tutor, lol. I read that and said to myself '"Chris would be bouncing rocks with a red r-trap , shallow" Good stuff Good contest/idea CJ!
  18. I would just get an adjustable one (leaning post). This way you can raise or lower it to exactly where you need it. Plus, If you switch up with whoever you are fishing with, they too can adjust it to fit them.
  19. [move]WELCOME ABOARD!![/move] You should fit right in around here.
  20. Why wouldn't you have a replica made? I mean, of all the choices, killing a fish would be my last, especially a 10+ lbr. Is it the money? A goosd mount will cost just as much if not more than a replica and not look as nice (usually)
  21. Cortisone shot I assume? Be careful not to do more damage while you are pain free. I had a problem with a shoulder when I used to ski, I kept getting cortisone shots and it was good to go for a month or so. All said and done, I needed surgery on my rotator cuff in the end. While it was numb I was continuing to damage it and didn't realize it. Good luck bud.
  22. Yes, but more aggressive. ANY fish skeletion art is appreciated.
  23. Thanks for the laugh man, that was top notch! resting on the bottom....lmao. TV could really be great stuff if they would just show it. C'mon , a show of hands for everyone that has all but pee'd in their pants at one point or another fishing with a best friend. Lots of laughs, good stuff, great post.
