Pay $$$ to fish??
So is it paying to launch or fish? If I wanted to fish from the bank, would they charge me?

Pay $$$ to fish??
because someone owns them? Privately?

Pay $$$ to fish??
On another post, someone was saying that it cost $16 to get on a certain lake. Is this somthing common? Paying to fish? Is it like a private pond that's loaded so the owner charges admission? Are you gaurenteed anything? Are the bass on salary or hourly? Do they get paid w/ shiners? If so can you just bring shiners instead of money? Do they get benefits? Are they Union bass? If the lakes aren't private, do you pay God? I don't get it.

Bone jarring strikes?
funny, I have a spidershaft rod with a stradic on it sitting at the bottom of a reservoir in Massachusetts. Lesson of the day---PAY ATTENTION!

Bone jarring strikes?
Keep fishing and you will have a rod all but pulled out of your hands eventually. "Bone-jarring" is a term of expression. Bones don't actually break or dislocate. when your line gets tight and you reel down to the fish and then set the hook,....well if you set it good and hard and theres a bigun at the other end, you'll understand real quick.

Got a question for you....
Good point Fluke. Downsizing is usually a priority before color change When I refer to downsizing, I am not just talking about size. "Action" can be downsized as well. This is what I was refering to when I spoke of changing from a prop or buzz lure to a frog or somthing that can be just "twiched". If I have confidence that I am where I need to be in the water column, I'll change presentation within that zone.

Got a question for you....
I'm kind of with playmaker. I will experiment (slightly) with color, but only from dark to light or visa versa but not for the actual "color", more the hue. When it comes to topwater, I will switch lures from a buzz or prop bait to a toad or crippled shad (from very loud to very subtle baits)

1964, 12' Jon Boat restoration
Thanks for the comments, hmm lets see.. 1. The seats. No, adding the seats created zero instability. 2 points though. I had a light duty 12 once where adding the seats did make it a bit tipsy. I had 15 inch pedestals but when I changed them to 7", it was much better. However, this boat has an unusually wide beam. Extremely stable for a jon boat. 2. The herculiner on the bottom does create drag but this boat is used in a t/m only lake. There is an equation where you can see the max possible speed of your boat without getting it on plane and for my boat, it's 4.2 miles an hour so w/a 55 lb thrust motor, I get the 4mph out of it no prob. any larger of a t/m and I'll just be pushing more water till on plane. The pic below is the old light duty w/ the higher pedestals. THis boat is a no-no. Lower pedestals were a must. This boat was like riding a skateboard on ice.

Standing in Jon Boat
The big thing with mine is real simple. Getting the floors flat eliminates most of ther things (like ribs) that would cause you to trip. Also, with a boat that size, everything needs to have a place from tackle boxes to pliers. Again, I am small but both my partner and I rotate between standing and sitting alllll night with no problems ever. One thing about my antique is that although it's only 12 ft long, it's 48" wide. Wider than many 14"s Again though, the floors are the key. read my post. I used 3/8 cdx and coated w/ poly resin then carpet. The thin plywood molds nicely to the floor , is lighter, and will not wear out before the carpet.

rust on hooks
Didn't even think of those kinds of products. "on/off" is a marine product that does wonders on removing rust stains from boat decks, etc. Active ingredient is osolic acid.

rust on hooks
the whole "coca-cola removes rust" thing was disproven on "mythbusters".

Are really becoming a better fisherman....
Sounds like a bunch of questions in one. I fish the same lake primarily now and yes I know where all the humps and bumps are even though I didn't put them there but the question is can I find them in another lake. COuld I adapt to other waters? Can I notice the water clarity, forage base and weather conditions? Personally I can buit not till I fished lots of other places. Fishing one lake is a great place to start because you have a control to compare to. You can notice changes in the lake and adapt. But once you have that lake down, go find another one and do the same.

Pig/Jig too hot??

To tell or not to tell......thats´s the question
I used to belong to a private fly fishing club. 7 ponds all connected to a hatchery by a man made river system. Lots of snooty older farts. One day this guy was killing them standing 20 ft from me so I bravely and respectfully asked " what are you catchin' 'em on?" and the response I got was "the bottom" Anyway.... 2 months later there was a thin layer of slush at the edge of the melting ice and I was throwing my fly up onto the icce and dragging it to the edge. When it got to the slushy stuff, the trout would smack the slush and make an upward dimple in the slush. They would hit it every time I stopped it so eventually all you saw were tracks of poke marks going to the edges. The trout naturally would take it every time it finally got pulled off the slush and into the water. Well here comes our same guy from a few months ago and he can't catch squat. I was using a fly I made which is real simple. It's a small white woolybugger with a strand of silver tinsel from the xmas tree wound in and then I "ribbon curl" the ends w/ a pair of scissors. I call it a "hollywood" So when he asked me what I was using because he was so amazed that the fish were trying to come thru the ice for it, I told the tuth,..."a white hollywood" As far as I know, I made that name up the day b4 when I tied a bunch of these but to my amazement, this gentleman was all excited saying "yea, I got some of those...." He didn't catch when I left,....I left one taped to his windshield.
