  1. Anyone? I want to go but the winds will be here soon so I'm looking to stay local. Takers?
  2. No doubt. I first heard about Paul Dateh, here in everything else, about a yr ago. Then, I found out that he did a song for a CAST family. The world has become incredibly smaller since I got involved w/ CAST and "odd" occurences like finding Paul via BR and then learninghe is aware of CAST,.....wierd, but I'm getting used to it :)Check it out Warning- very touching http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8j-94oxbf4E Paul is a song writer/pianist/violinist/singer. He has a new album coming out shortly and is a very approachable person. Leave a message or comment on u-tube and he'll return it. Very cool kid. Some other stuff on u-tube by him that is worth checking out. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NEgd7pOVFnY&feature=user
  3. Seems much of the music where "scratching" is used, is electronically generated type stuff made with tone generators, drum machines and stuff like that, no real instruments and often, no real musicians. Trained musicians I should say, seeing as we are speaking about ART which is abstract and totally subjective to opinion. Now I give credit where credit is due. ex: I don't like country music but will easily admit that there are countless phenomenal (trained) musicians in the country genre. Anyway, I found a couple places where the turntables team ip with real musicians and the mix is kinda catchy. Here are 2 completely different examples of what I'm talking about. Anyone have any more examples? Hubba Hubba This kid is amazing
  4. Well, Mattlures Baby Bass is not considered a large swimbait, but the bigger bass I have landed on this lure never had a chance to do anything once they were hooked up. I lost a few fish initially until Matt explained to me that you don't "play" fish with this lure, you fish with equipment that allows you to pull them straight to you! Fish_Chris has reported the same thing with most (all) of his swimbait hawgs: they can't close their mouth! So, my point is that there is no fight to speak of. Your point, I think, is the excitement in the strike and boating a big bass. I understand exactly where you're coming from, but that's not what jazzes me the most. 8-) Yup, you nailed it. I'm just a topwater FREAK and this is the mack daddy of topwater hits (freshwater anyway). The "hit and haul" theory also makes your reply make more sense now too. I still let 'em jump though, lol, I'd rather lose one or two and get some cool video. I know I'm the rare case here though, I guess it all depends what you're fishing for, ....keepers or footage, lol. It's pouring, the leftovers from the hurricane are here,....c'mon Matt 5.0,...get up!!!! Get the Gore-Tex,.......It's time to wake and bait 8-) btw RW- I got my first one on the baby bass a few weeks back!! woohoo
  5. You catch fewer small fish with the big baits, but you do still get a brave one every once in a while, lol
  6. seriously,...who orders 60k worms.........oh wait, that was my order ;D See y'all in Ky, the date change was approved at work. Thanks to those who PM'd me with concerns, and even the one that called.......someone wants another Lobster... ;D GAME ON CJ- Any wake bait bite that time of year? I was hoping to travel light, lol, 1 rod, 1 bait.
  7. I always looked at is aeration. Our lake can light up after a rain storm. I'm not sure if it's classed as small, but probably compared to the stuff you guys have. Lake X is 220 acres. It could also have to do with the fact that because I have confidence during this window, I am often on the water during it "You catch on what you throw, you catch when you get up and go." Wow,....I think I just made a quot-able,lol.
  8. Have you caught a 4-6 lbr on a large swimbait? Totally different than on the other kids stuff (poke poke). I see your point though, using a 7'11" HEAVY rod, does take away from the weight/fight aspect with fish under 6 lbs or so. I think it's the thrill of a new klind of fishing and the thrill of knowing when one boils, it's MOST LIKELY the bigger one in the group. Whatever it is, when I pick up the old jig or worming rod, I feel like it is way inadequate and it's like a drug withdrawel. I HAVE to put it down and pick up the big rod. Every cast with the small rod and I feel like I could be missing THE cast w/ the big one,lol..... I'm WAY addicted
  9. It's all the same rush for me. Whether it's an 800 lb Tuna on stand up gear or a 6 lbr on a wake bait, it's all the thrill of the run. The success of drawing the bite.
  10. It's coming here when it leaves you. I'm doubling up on anchors, drift socks, packing extra food, batteries, lights, clothes, 8 ft rods and 16 inch baits........... telling mom I love her and going for broke. Will report back when it's over (Hopefully )
  11. You guys suck,...I'm jealous!! 3 yrs I've been hearing about these steaks.......
  12. He was a Zima fan I think......
  13. I notice with the slammer type baits, the first section does not have much side to side action. The usual waker uses the square bill. Is there a reason for this? I was thinking of using a triangular bill for the next one and seeing if it gives the first section a bit of swagger. Bad idea?
  14. enough. Case closed. If you guys plan to start up another event, please start a new thread. I won't tolerate seeing people accused of not playing fair, especially ones I know and respect. Paul, Kudos for organizing this, sounds like some guys are having a good time with it. May I suggest for the future,....leave $$ out of it, y'all can concentrate on the camaraderie and not the drama. Just an opinion. Moving on..........
  15. "Heaven only knows"- John Legend Live in Philly
  16. when in the body shop business and sold out i kept some of the base coat clear coat clear from r&m dealer but it takes 3-4 hrs to dry is that what happens to your stuff in the glass resin are you talking about the clear filler that you add the liquid hardner to as with fiberglass cloth that you would repair a corvette with. minus the cloth, yes. Resin and hardner. Drying time is roughly an hour but it gets a good kick after about 30 mins. (I use a bit more hardener than suggested)
  17. Same situation, you could order 50 rods/reels and have 200 kids show up. Careful.
  18. It's not too late to send pics and info via email to local DNR. They very well may ask you to harvest the next one caught and tell you where to bring it. We did this yrs ago with winter over stripers from the Providence river. I kind of did it in reverse though. My buddy is a prof at URI and he introduced me to a marine bio prof. HE asked us to bring him one and when we did, HE called DNR. Same difference though. Also, if it is an isolated or landlocked body of water, it may be treatable.
  19. Only problem with this is by opening it to the public like that, you cannot control the turnout. Tough to plan for. By inviting a specific agency or agencies, you can not only control the attendance but can have the kids "pre-registered" before they even get there. This keeps it much more organized and allows check-in to move MUCH more quickly and smoothly. For more helpful hints..... LET'S HOST A C.A.S.T. EVENT TOGETHER!!!! ;D Seriously, if you are going to make a run at something like this, feel free to pick what's left of my brain.
  20. and could someone Pleeeeeease tell me how to fish a senko?!?
  21. no way, chewed up baits just plain work better
  22. I know pine, basswood, etc are fine for wake baits/topwaters but I will be adding some weight with the build up on this particular bait so I am looking for an extra bouyant wood. How about Balsa? Suggestions?
