  1. If I had to spend money on a big bait reel, I would probably wait for the new curado 300E to come out, and then compare to the toro.
  2. I would not pay more than 20 bucks for a pflueger ...
  3. The package was good. The only problem with the design is the fact that the slit in the tail is not reinforced. The corner of the slit tends to rip, much like zoom's U-vibe design. I love uvibe and I do go through an entire pack of worms every trip, but they are not $5 a package.
  4. The reason why I dont like revo's = narrow spool. Give the new Citica's and Curado's a try. They have surprisingly wide spools.
  5. Nice fish man! I purchased a bag of these shads and have not had any success with them. The tail is extremely fragile and only lasts a few casts before it breaks off.
  6. I've been fishing my citica quite a bit in the past couple of weeks and have caught over 40 LMB's on it since. I have this reel paired up with a Powell 702CEF for speed worms. It casts 1/16oz and 1/8 oz weighed speedworms a country mile (2 brakes on) and rarely ever I backlash (probably once every 300-400 casts, and even then it's probably because Im casting light baits against 20 mph winds). The reel is really nice. The only two bad things about this reel is how noisy it is on the casts, and the fact that the sideplate has some play to it.
  7. Maybe the picture doesn't do justice to the bass. It's not about it's markings ... the bass is gray .. pure gray .. no green
  8. So I went fishing today and caught 42 bass in 11 hours of fishing, the majority of which were tiny little dinks. Sometime between 11am and noon I caught a 2lb-1oz bass that looked WEIRD. When I first saw it's shape as I was winching it out of the water, I thought it was a mudfish. This fish was lacking any green or yellow pigments in its color. It really reminded me of Axanthic ball pythons, which genetically lack their yellow and green pigments, so I decided to call this an Axanthic bass. They are probably more common than Albino bass, but still an interesting catch. Here are some pics. And for comparison, the biggest fish of the day ... a 2lb-10oz, one eye blind bass. This fish was caught only a few minutes after the previous bass, so the lighting conditions should make comparison fair.
  9. DOA Shrimp (glow color) with 1/8 oz chartreuse jighead
  10. I caught one today and safely released it back to the body of water. People in this forum get alarmed when a member eats their bass buy will recommend senseless killing of other species. Unbelievable. Beautiful fish!
  11. I fish heavy cover and thick weeds with cranks all the time. Lipped cranks: When choosing a lipped crankbait, I try to choose a crank that will run pretty shallow (depending on the depth at which the vegetation is situated). Almost always I will throw lipped cranks that will run over the vegetation. If it comes into contact with vegetation, make sure it just barely touches it ... if it's digging into it, then pick a shallower crank. Bandits footloose and 100's work well for my applications. If you are fishing heavy weeds, don't throw LC's or Jackalls. Stick to bandits and bombers, since they are cheaper to replace. Lipless cranks: This is my favorite type of crank for fishing structure because it snags up a lot less. If you have the right rod for it, you can run through weeds like nothing else. The most affordable, most weedless lipless out there is IMHO the SPRO Arukushad Jr. (3/8 oz). They will get snagged up occasionally, but not as often as other cranks. They are $6 at Gander Mtn or $7 at TW.
  12. Pickerel and pike are not the same thing. Chain pickerel and Northern pike are two different species. But since there is no N.pike down here, ppl commonly use the term pike to describe chain pickerel. I've never caught a N. pike.
  13. First of all, the boat is a BPS 9' Pond Prowler, which I got this summer and have fished over 80 times since. For the longest time I looked into get a Jon boat and was mainly considering the aluminum type. The pro's of these boats are: 1) Cheap: I spent about $700 for the boat, trolling motor and battery. 2) Stable: I put the chair in the back and fish standing up. I can jump up and down and step on the edge and the boat does not flip (I'm 6'4" and 230 lbs). Two people can fish standing up with no problem. It's got a 4ft beam and a low center of gravity. 3) Easy to get in and out of the water: It takes me about 4 mins to get the boat in the water. 4) Easy to carry around: I keep the boat in the bed of truck all year long, covered with a tarp and chained up. This is very practical for my current situation, since I'm a college student and have nowhere I can store a trailer&boat. 5) Handles waves pretty well: It rocks more than a V-bottom but less than a flat bottom aluminum jon boat. 6) Confortable: Two people can fish out of it very confortably. When sitting in the chair, you sit pretty high up. It is the best $700 I've ever spent in my life.
  14. Yeah. It was a 1.5 lb chain pickerel, or pike
  15. So after failing an Advanced Structural Analysis exam on thursday, I decided to go to Orange Lake in Marion County and do some fishing. The weather was beautiful and I ended up catching 22 bass and a pike. Here are some pics. All caught with SPRO ArukaShad Jr. of various colors. Sorry for the quality of the pics. They were all taken with my phone. The boat! First fish of the day. Small one pounder. Tenth of the day. This spot has bass written all over it. Biggest of the day. 2lb-3oz (pretty dissapointing) 21st of the day. The little guy was hungry!

Let the man eat his fish! Everyone down here catches bass for eating, and the fishery is as strong as it ever was.

    PB 0.2 oz! ;D ;D ;D
  18. I vote for the Citica. Unlike other people that assume it's a good reel without trying it, I actually own one. It is incredible! The revo is heavy, very unconfortable and has a narrow, hobbit-sized-thumb, spool. The Citica is smooth, throws light baits with ease, is confortable and has a wide, easy access spool. I've got mine paired with a Powell 702CEF for light Arukushads and speedworms and I love it. I am so head over heels with this reel that if I had another one, I would ship it to you so you could try it for a while and then let me know. (And I've had a terrible experience with Abu customer service in the past).
  19. The Bait Monkey is never happy!!!
  20. 1. A blade 2. A hook (possibly 2) 3. Some sort of wire/lead confection 4. A skirt
  21. I fished mine with XPS FC today. Great little reel!
  22. There is no such thing as a multi-purpose line. To each application its line type.
