  1. doesnt he do fake bloopers and fish private lakes? put salt on everything.
  2. A ML rod using 1/8 or 1/4oz weight, thin hook and not too much plastic to punch through should be perfectly fine in open water. for 1/2oz plus plastic, I wouldn't use the ML even in open water. even a Med power with that much weight would not feel right to me. The Med would be perfectly capable though.
  3. i like a ML/XF rod for DS. The one I currently use is 6'9". For wacky I prefer a Medium XF.
  4. big jump between ML and MH. i only use ML rods for finesse stuff like dropshot and ned rig. ML is not ideal for hook sets on t-rigged plastic IMO
  5. yeah - its not fishing in the sporting sense is what i meant. im sure i could have fun doing that for a few hrs but i wont have the same feeling the night before or morning of a long fishing day. playing with different baits its part of the fun. theres fun in the challenge too? cool little sub though
  6. it would be cool to play with and see the bottom of the lake but what fun is fishing with it?
  7. would it help if you could get one for $172 shipped? https://www.digitaka.com/item.php?item=316288 i ordered my last one, the XG, on a Sunday and received it the next Friday from Digitaka. i have read posts by 2 or 3 people saying they are a little smoother but I havent tried the Curado to tell you for sure. hopefully Bluebasser86 will chime in. he has both. these reels palm better in my hands than the smaller Aldebaran 50. the line capacity is enough for 90% of my fishing. for $175 i think theyre great. when they go on sale it will be a no brainer. you can get a smoother reel that casts farther. you are probably going to pay more and at least to me, will not be as comfortable. after all this is said, these will not replace my Mets or the Aldebaran on my small jig rod. not sure if i should have bought the 6.3:1 but im interested to compare it to the HG when fishing med depth crankbaits and spinnerbaits with heavy resistance.
  8. I think you are referring to pitching vs. flipping. no backlash ever when flipping!
  9. the Chronarch mgl will be a 150 size and Ci4 material from what I understand.
  10. I love the reel so much that I bought 3 Scorpions. 1 of each speed (6.3:1,HG,XG). My new workhorse reel. I sold off my old Curados after fishing this reel. They sit along side 2 Metaniums and an Aldebaran and can hold their own against these!
  11. have you tried a MH/XF for jigs and plastics? might free up one of your MH/F if you prefer the faster action.
  12. if the 2 power CR rods are similar to the 2 power MBRs, you might not be happy with 3/8oz jigs plus trailer on the 722. check out Loomis' bronzeback and walleye rods. you might find what you are looking for there.
  13. i usually dont add trailers to spinnerbaits and buzzbaits. when i do its something small like the z-man split tail or a skinny swing impact after some mods with the scissors. its easier to keep the spinnerbait at certain depths without a trailer. www.tacklewarehouse.com/Z_Man_Elaztech_Split_Tail_Trailerz_10pk/descpage-ZMANEST.html?from=BASRES www.tacklewarehouse.com/Keitech_Swing_Impact/descpage-KSI.html?from=BASRES chatterbaits almost always get a paddletail trailer. www.tacklewarehouse.com/Keitech_Swing_Impact_FAT/descpage-KSIF.html www.tacklewarehouse.com/Strike_King_KVD_Perfect_Plastic_Blade_Minnow/descpage-SKPBM.html?from=BASRES
  14. my favorite spinnerbait rod is the GLX MBR 783c (6'6" MH/F)
  15. go used with a comfortable seat.
  16. I doubt there are many if any humans that know more about the lake than Wayne P. Also an electronics and mapping guru. Get the free Navionics Boating app when you get a few minutes and you will see what I mean. Check out this thread if you haven't already:
  17. lots of trees in briery creek so a big motor is not needed. Even with a 9.9, youre not going to be running it full throttle for very far. A 9.9 will be more versatile for other lakes/rivers than the 2hp. You will probably not be happy with a 2hp on Smith Mountain Lake, Kerr Reservoir or Lake Anna.
  18. ive shipped about 10 rods and have had about 30 delivered and have not had a problem, yet. all in cardboard tubes.
  19. Lipless cranks dont have much resistance. I try to use a faster (and smaller) reel when i can get away with it. I'd go 7.x:1 for lipless cranks. I dont find it hard to slow it down when I want to present the bait slower. Only time I go down to 6.x:1 is for medium depth cranks or baits with a lot of resistance. I dont crank deep enough to justify the purchase of a 5.x:1.
  20. buy used and sell used if you dont like and you should break even. try it out and see how you like it. if its too cold to fish, drive out to the water for an hour just to test baits/rods. its all personal preference but i like fast or moderate fast for moving baits.
  21. taper is a little different but reminds me of a bait I like for shakey jigs, Case Plastics Jack's Worm. http://www.fishingcompleteinc.com/jacks-worm/
  22. check out the St Croix Avid 68mxf
  23. i havent fished enough different colors to be able to tell you what is better but i tie on a bass color (GG bass i think?) all the time and i can tell you it works in many conditions. i only fished my white python pop x once and didnt get hit (although my GG bass struck out too that time of the day). my other black pop-x hasnt seen the water. i plan on using it early morning or into the night. my only pop max is a different bass type color, sorry i forgot which.
  24. He looks well fed. The foxes in the woods behind my house in the northern part of your state are very skinny and ragged looking. Its probably not a good thing for them that i see so many. You ever hear them make those demonic noises at night?
