sahara 4000 for surf fishing?
thanks for the responses. chesapeake bay it is. MD part actually. 2oz is usually enough to handle the surf there but i agree it can be too light for the outer coast. i have 2 other surf rods to handle heavier weight but they are old and im trying to upgrade them one at a time. this will be the "lightest" surf rod ive owned. do you guys have any opinions on the shimano spheros?

sahara 4000 for surf fishing?
yeah, ive had rockfish take quite a bit of line out. what i meant is that i dont plan on catching any 70lb tuna or tarpon with this rod. im going to drop the sahara idea. i figured id get it as i think the smaller ones are a good value but i'll look into something built for salt water like you suggested. thanks again.

A Question for Everyone re. Spinning Rod Applications
IMO a fast action would make a better all around rod.

What is Your Favorite Jig Trailer?
if youre just starting out, use small jigs with small (3") trailers. you will catch fish of all sizes and build confidence fast. i usually trim the skirt to the hook bend and cut the guard down some. id try: 1/4oz bitsy bug (cheap and works great) 5/16oz eakins 3" yum craw papi netbait tiny paca craw rage baby craw (havent tried this yet) zoom tiny chunk (i dont trim skirt for these)

sahara 4000 for surf fishing?
im about to pull the trigger on a st croix TSRS90M2 (8ft surf rod, .5-2.5oz) and was wondering if a sahara 4000 would be a good choice. this rod will mainly be used to cast cut bait with a 2 oz lead sinker. sahara 4000 line capacity - 8/240,10/200,12/160

What are you paying for in a top-quality casting rod???
id go for a mbr783c in IMX or GLX. if i could only keep one rod it would be my mbr783 glx as it is a great all around rod. $50 bucks will get you a new rod if it happens to break with the expeditor service. stay away from limited lifetime warranty. if shimano/loomis decides its not a defective rod, you cannot use the expeditor service afterwards. if you want to spend a little less look at the st.croix avid series. st. croix has a similar warranty and the avids are an excellent value.

G Loomis GLX
wow. i guess you do need your grandmother to send it back. thats one scam i have to endorse. pretty ridiculous policy. if i didnt take 15mins to get through to them id try to find out the reason. bad loomis! thanks for info. -z

New Reel
how did you flip? rapids on the new river? i have the scotty power lock rod holders which should save my rod if i capsize, but the only time i lock it in is when im coming up to some sketchy riffles so its not going to work if i flip for a totally unexpected reason.

G Loomis GLX
still dont believe it. the rod doesnt have to be registered. anyone can use expeditor service. his grandmother could send it in for him. i think i remember what you guys are talking about. i think the problem was that he had to pay for shipping both ways because loomis denied his warranty claim. im thinking the customer wanted the warranty dept to handle the expeditor service but because it is a different dept they had to ship the rod back to him so that he could start the expeditor service himself. this would cost him the normal $50 dollar expeditor fee plus the shipping costs to and from the limited lifetime warranty dept to get his rod back. edit: if this is not the case, i will call shimano/loomis and see what the deal is and report back.

thinking about buying a kayak
i have never been in a sit-inside but i recommend a sit-on top for fishing. it can hold a good amt of gear and if you take in a wave it will drain out the scupper holes. i think its probably easier to rig with accessories like rod holders, gps, anchor etc but dont quote me on that. the tank well is also nice to hold a milk crate to hold supplies/tackle/rod holders.

Absolutly Blows My Mind- Fish crushing The New Wing Ding
jeez. curious group of people (non-clowns) we have on here. thanks for making the post, Bobby. i always look forward to reading about new products and cant wait to hear more about this one. is it too late to change the name from Wing Ding to LT. Dan?

G Loomis GLX
Why was that fella denied? i find that hard to believe. they never asked me what was wrong with my rod. they just told me to ship it back when i get the new rod...
-
G Loomis GLX
if you dont return the rod in the pre-paid tube within 30 days, they charge your card for the full price for the rod.

G Loomis GLX
i think this thread jinxed me. i broke my first loomis rod on sunday. it wasnt a glx, it was a bronzeback model. but i did break it with a glx rod. i was doing a side arm cast from the shore with a bsr852glx and struck the bronzeback rod that was leaning against my canoe. broke the second and third guides. the glx was fine! called shimano/loomis, gave them 50 bucks, new rod on the way! i'll ship the broken rod in the tube the new rod comes in, pre-paid postage. i'll never buy a rod without a similar warranty.

thinking about buying a kayak
after doing quite a bit of research i bought a native manta ray 12'. my next choice would have been the wilderness systems tarpon 120. i agree with above, buy used if you want to spend $500. check out these forums if you haven't already: http://www.kayakfishingstuff.com/community/ http://www.kayakbassfishing.com/kbfBB3/

Shennendoah River Fishing
its a shallow, slow river. i like using small jigs and small cranks. i've have had good luck with rebel wee craws and jointed rapalas. my bigger smallmouth have come from 4" double tail yamamoto hula grubs and bitsy bug jigs.
