  1. ive noticed that if you cut your rod in half, the tip will be alot stiffer.
  2. mbr844c glx, curado 201e7, 20lb PP w/ 8lb YZ Hybrid leader
  3. how are you holding the bass when you remove the hooks?
  4. i dont know, maybe they weren't into the lipless crank that day/time. doesnt it kind of look like a baby smallie? or maybe other kind of baitfish? ive caught bass on shad baits in lakes with no shad and with jigs on lakes that supposedly had no crawfish in MN... my chartruese lipless crank doesnt look like anything ive ever seen and ive caught 2 fish on it. i wouldn't consider the time you spent tossing that baby bass bait wasted time.
  5. they weren't cheap at $125. but this was REI with jacked up prices. i had a gift certificate so what the hell? i didnt hesitate because i use smith googles for snowboarding and i like them alot. id try different brands as im not familiar with many and cannot compare. but i can say that my Smith glasses blow my old similarly priced Spy glasses away meaning not all polarized glasses are created equal even at the same price point.
  6. Which lenses do you have in your new glasses? i think its these: http://www.smithoptics.com/Shelter_31_5.html?fl=flase the black/polar gray im not sure if its the polarization or just the lense (Carbonic TLT?) but ive never worn glasses anywhere close to anything like these. keep in mind these are only the 3rd pair of polarized ive tried, this color "pop" might be common with quality shades...
  7. its hard to pick a favorite, but if i could only use one brand id go with yamamoto.
  8. i lost a pair of Spy polarized glasses to the depths of lake Moomaw last yr. I bought a new pair of Smiths for roughly the same price and they are alot better. i can see underwater alot clearer and colors "pop" alot more. especially greens.
  9. You're basing your observations on one day of use ?????? WOW. i could make all of those observations with 3 casts of a rod and recommend it. the only thing he cant vouch for is life expectancy and he did not. do you think the sensitivity, "whippyness" or balance will change after a few outings or something?
  10. my apologies, buzzbait4me, for my first post. i have heard great things about the lightning rod. havent heard any reviews about the "lightning shock" rod. i didnt realize they were different rods....
  11. i like 6:1 for small to mid size cranks. 7:1 is fine for shallow/small cranks, IMO.
  12. i'll recommend the green yz ultra soft in 10lb for an all-around line. i have not tried CXX yet.
  13. from what i've been reading, the lightning rod is the king of that pricepoint. do a search for it on here, you should find a ton of threads about it.
  14. tried the green pumpkin color on a green craw bitsy bug for the first time and reeled in 3 decent sized smallies on saturday. only caught 5 total all day so im sold on these things.
  15. usually on 1/4oz green craw bitsy bug or 5/16oz eakins: netbait tiny paca craw 2.75" yum craw papi zoom tiny chunk i picked up a pack of the baby rage craws, i hope to add those to the list tomorrow.
  16. you already have other set ups so get the nicest you can afford. buy something to use with jigs and plastics. id go with an avid.
  17. i was on hold for about 20 mins when i used it last month. doing it online might save you a headache. http://products.gloomis.com/gl/orders/order_form_step1.jsp i believe i called on a tuesday night and had the rod on friday.
  18. for $50 bucks you can have a brand new rod in hand in a few days. if you need it sooner, i believe they will overnight it for an extra fee... id do the expeditor service before id attempt any repairs: Xpeditor Program Details G.Loomis Xpeditor: a paid service that allows you to replace a broken rod expediently and without question. There are two ways to request Xpedite Service: 1) Online at www.gloomis.com 2) via phone 1-877-577-0600. Upon receiving your request, G.Loomis will immediately ship a replacement rod via standard ground delivery When you receive your new rod, remove it from the shipping tube, place the broken rod into that same tube and affix the enclosed (pre-paid) shipping label on the outside of the tube. The cost: $50.00 (Per Rod) for standard ground delivery (Master card or Visa only) If you fail to return the broken rod within 30 days of receiving your replacement, you authorize G. Loomis to charge your credit card the full manufacturer's suggested retail price of the replacement rod in addition to the $50.00 (Per Rod) already paid. Please Note: When using this service, if the rod you are receiving as a replacement is out of stock there will be a delay in shipping out your Xpeditor package.
  19. they eat lead? sweet! i cant bring myself snag them. unless i was going to eat them, then id have no problem. about the corn, can i just thread a few kernels from the can on a hook or do i need it raw from the cobb? thanks fellas -z
  20. its probably hard to find someone that has tried both rods but be patient. you can do this for now. tie on the exact jig to both rods using the same line on both. go to a shallow area where the water is clear and cast the jig over some visible structure several times. keep switching rods until you find out which is more sensitive.
  21. take a look at the bsr852 as well. id recommend that rod for the presentations mentioned.
  22. hello. there are some large carp in a creek that runs through my backyard. i was wondering what you guys use to hook these guys. thanks -z
  23. id go with st. croix avids. check out the warranty and reviews on these rods.
  24. 1/4oz and under is usually on a spinning rig.
