  1. awesome story, and beautiful fish. the part of you and your friend screaming got me excited for the wkend! my first big bass was the first day i had ever used a jig. caught a 5lber about 300 yds from the boat rental launch on a double tail hula grub / arkie jighead. i didnt have a scale at the time so we hauled *** back to the ramp to weigh it. luckily she swam away and seemed fine. looking back, i shouldnt have kept her out of the water so long. from that day on, the jig been my favorite bait.
  2. im not sure if this would be better than what you currently own, but i would use an mbr844c. i prefer something a little lighter for t-rig and toads, however. the mbr783c is my favorite all around rod but might not be the best choice for small swimbaits and frogs...
  3. what are the ratings on your UL rod? small rapalas beetle spins rebel wee craws snap beans cranks small inline spinners small jigheads w/ small plastics (depends on rod) t-rig finesse worms slider head w/ worm crappie and panfish baits im using a rogue rod (forgot model), symetre 1000, 4lb yo-zuri US
  4. you can catch fish with line wrapped around a hand spool. when i was a kid, i caught a sunfish with a bent needle. took about 50 worms but i finally got one. you dont need expensive gear to fish. i dont think there was ever a doubt. i know i catch more fish than i did 5 yrs ago with my less sensitive rods. alot more fish? no. i dont get to fish everyday. when i do i like nice toys that make the experience more fun for me. if youre satisfied fishing cheaper rigs, more power to you. i wish i was attracted to big girls, but im not, so i cant clean up the bar at last call like some of my friends that will settle for that. to each his own!
  5. i agree with the others, heavier will be better. unless money is not an issue, id suggest buying lead egg sinkers for C-rigs where size is not an issue. i'd get tungsten worm or flipping weights instead.
  6. why stop at flipping? its all about what feels good to you. i dont think you'll miss many fish by switching hands. if thats your reason, i say stick with righty. im right handed. the reason i switched to left handed reels is because i have better bait control and feel when i hold the rod in my right.
  7. ok, i think i have a solution for you. same one DNR told you. target other fish with the same lures and at the same places bass hang out. if youre thinking about walleye, you are targeting them. when you hook a bass, let it go quickly like DNR said. sounds they gave you the "loophole" probably to get off the phone sounds like this is hard to enforce and probably impossible to prove in court unless you have a bass in the cooler.
  8. i was probably about 10 yrs old, my father rented a boat and trolling motor on the upper potomac. before that trip i had only used worms and cut bait. caught a smallmouth after dozens of sunfish on an in-line spinner. artificial baits actually work!
  9. mh is good for your thicker hooks, >1/4oz lures, heavier cover medium will cover 1/4oz and down the light will probably be good for very small jigs, small cranks, light in-line spinners do all of your rods have fast action? if any are moderate or mod/fast id use that one for crankbaits.
  10. i wish i could go but i gotta work. work is really getting in the way of my personal life lately
  11. i have those and theyre comfortable. ive been through some epic puddles and they have stayed dry. ill try to submerge them this wkend and report back.
  12. im a little confused as to what youre asking but this may help if youre not already doing it. use a cheap line for backing and tie your flouro to that. i use cajun red mono to make it easy to tell when im running low.
  13. 1/4oz finnese jig with 3" craw trailer bitsy bug/yum craw papi
  14. go avid or loomis IMX and CI4. i think avid is a great value for the money. very sensitive, but not quite as much as IMX (or so i've read). id buy IMX and GLX on sale only. if you take your time you should find a GLX for under $300 and IMX for close to $200. i love the SJR783 GLX for making accurate casts with a 5/16oz eakins jig. BSR852 would be great for small jigs/worms but they dont make an IMX version.
  15. by medium action you mean moderate action, correct? i agree with post above, i wouldnt have two moderate action (crankbait) rods if i only owned 3. id change the third rod to a fast action/med heavy. good for spinnerbaits, buzzbaits and jigs/worms that are a little too heavy for your medium power/fast action spinning rig. id also change the power of your crankbait rod to a medium instead of medium heavy. unless you plan on tossing heavy and/or deep crankbaits most of the time. keep in mind, i mostly fish small-medium sized shallow-med depth divers.
  16. is it a joke? less gas = less money to middle east = preventing terrorism?

http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1141053342 id use whatever colors you use for other plastics. the ones you mentioned sound good. ive caught fish using green pumpkin and watermelon colors.
  18. i'd say im more of a finesse fisher as im usually fishing small jigs and plastics, slowly. favorite power fishing baits are lipless cranks and spinnerbaits.
  19. good job! if thats the same fish thats on your avatar pic, you need a new scale!
  20. 6'6" is more versatile to me. you can work lures with the tip up or down. i think 6'8" is a nice size. youre gonna get many different answers. it really depends on how you fish, what lures youre fishing and what feels better to you.
  21. How do you know if it's at 20% or 75%? you mean 20 or 25%? looking at RW's example above. thats pulling 25-30% of 10lb line.
  22. mono - trilene xl copoly - yo zuri ultra soft (only co-poly ive used) flouro - trilene 100% (only flouro ive used) never tried braid but i hear powerpro is the way to go. 6lb mono diameter is good for 2500 size spinning reels.
  23. i recommend using the featured product as ive noticed that when i use a home made version it tends to fly off the hook on the cast.
  24. a huge difference? prob not. i do think it can make a difference the same way color does on any other part of your lure.
