  1. i usually fish these colors: clear water - watermelon (or a semi-translucent color) stained - green pumpkin (or a natural color) muddy - black (or a dark color)
  2. as fun but not necessarily more fun: snowboarding camping kayaking/canoeing
  3. ultralight spinning rod! small in-line spinners small rapala cranks rebel wee craw crankbait finesse worms/craws beetle spin
  4. if this is your only spinning rod go for the medium.
  5. for around $150 avid would be my first choice
  6. good idea, midnighthrasher, except for two reasons. one being that i would now have two 3.25' halves to deal with instead of two 3' halves like i would have if i went with a 6 footer like mentioned above. that would get snagged on approx .053% more branches. second reason is that if i go with a 2-piece i could get a st. croix avid like i mentioned in the opening post and wouldnt have to settle for a compre.
  7. is that what you use yours for? is there another rod you'd recommend?
  8. yeah i figure i can pack in a few extra ounces and use a stradic 2500. thanks, all, for posting
  9. native mantaray 12 kayak bcr803, LES66mlf trilene flouro (hope to add braid to this list soon) havent tried any upper high end reels yet but the stradic 2500 and chronarch 51mg are nice.
  10. J Francho- do you think the ml premier you mentioned would balance well with a symetre 1000 (7.1oz)?
  11. id like a rod to toss around 1/16 oz and 1/8 oz jigheads with small plastic trailers mainly for 1-3lb stream smallmouth. do you think the sjr720s imx would be a good choice?
  12. i have the LE version of the 68mxf (full grip) and i think you would like it for those presentations if you dont go too light on the drop shot weight. this rod would not be my choice for 2 and 3 inch senkos. im not sure how similar the LE and LT are however.
  13. 2 piece would be ideal except that would mean carrying 2 3ft sections which would be snagging branches as it will not fit in the backpack. maybe i can find a lightweight hard case for it though...
  14. always mash the 0 button as soon as you hear the recording. i usually wait until its time to meditate on the can when i expect a long hold time. dial the number, press speaker and sit on throne. either that or make the call on the commute to or from work.
  15. 6'6"-7', M or MH, Fast action would be the best all-around rod for those techniques you mentioned. power depends on cover and bait weight. XF actions are good for bottom baits most people use Moderate or Moderate/Fast for crankbaits.
  16. i have luck sometimes by just reeling it in really slow, maintaining bottom contact with the sinker
  17. yeah man, i was pretty excited when i saw the premier line had travel rods until i looked at the price. 160 bucks for a premier? ouch! might go with the triumph. looks like different guides and a soft case is the only difference between the two.
  18. i agree. get a fast if youre going to use it for both plastics and cranks.
  19. ive lost 5. one was trolling, guess the drag was too tight. i like to think it was a fish and not a log... i almost lost one off of a ocean beach pier in San Diego. the rod flew off the pier and was floating about 20 feet below us and we managed to snag it with another rod and line. on the other end was a 4ft shovel nose shark/ray. the Shenandoah river has taken 4 of my rods. the loomis' do not ride in the canoe. i am now a firm beliver in portaging rapids and also not standing up to take a leak when youre 5 or 6 beers deep.
  20. id like to buy a ml power, fast action, 3 or 4 piece spinning rod to take with me on hiking trips. i was hoping there was a st croix avid 3 piece but i dont think there is. can you recommend a good rod manufacturer that i could look into? thanks in advance -z
  21. who wants to use a senko all the time?
  22. i was just staring at my pack of kreatures last night wondering the exact same thing. i think rigging them backwards might not move the appendages very much. please post your results with us.
  23. 1/4oz finesse jig, natural color, 3" matching craw trailer 4 or 5 inch straight tailed worm on shakey jig
  24. i agree, the BCR803 would be perfect if you take your time you should be able to find one for 30% off online.
  25. rod - 6'6" or 7' , med or MH, fast reel - low profile, 6 or 7 gear ratio my all purpose combo is a mbr783 with curado 201E7. my ideal combo would prob have a $500 dollar reel on it.
