  1. I've Hit St. Clair and Erie, which were my northern haunts now I want to hit Falcon Amistad
  2. I carolina rig them, I seem to get bit more than using my traditional zoom lizards...
  3. I watch my drop shot, shakey head, spoon, etc... all the time on my 525. I've watched fish race up, or dart to the bait, but I've never actually got to see one take it. I basically leave my settings to Auto (execpt depth) 90% of the time, I only mess with my sensitivity and colorline settings if I'm in really shallow or really weedy areas. I think most any of today's sonar's are capable of doing this, its just a matter of having them properly set up.
  4. I obviously wasn't talking about Burley, as his scale pic made Sports Illustrated that week...
  5. 5 1/2...Don't mess with the legend. 8-) I think me and the DeadJedi will Ride down this year. Maybe we can put Legends to rest I hope you guys do make the trip. Gonna be a fun trip this year. Fish guestimations, raw chicken, and stumbling drunks... how could it get any better? ;D
  6. I'm taking a $15k down as a down payment to the bank for my next rig, and I've been quoted rates in the 5-6% range.
  7. I liked it. Looked like they had a great time! A change of pace was definitely in place for that execution....

  9. I've been researching, driving, riding, reading, etc.. for the past several months. My personal conclusion has been narrowed down to Basscat or Champion. I'm leaning heavily towards a Puma FTD at the moment...
  10. I read this post and it pretty much put the whole incident in perspective for me. I'm not going to assume I know what happened, and make "virtual" judgments based on what I "think" may have happened. As much as people here may dislike the folks at BASS, Weldon's, crew reviewed the incident, and took the action they deemed necessary. The facts will not come out on this one. There are issues involved that would offend quality individuals. The matters and comments which lead to the penalties were filmed by ESPN cameras and thus the penalty. Trip had reason to be upset and issue the penalties, and that is what matters. One of the parties involved in the incident let their emotions overshoot their actions and the resulting post was an indirect result of that. There are innocent people involved who do not deserve to be mentioned and made only a minor mistake, which lead to the situation that developed. We also respect Marty Stone for not commenting. He is taking a rashing over this, and could come away clean on the incident and penalties. Though it would effect the feelings of those spoken about above. He's taking the high road and sacrificing for protection of others.
  11. congrats! Maybe she can help you tweak that chicken recipe!?
  12. I like the ACS seats, but they do limit the ways you can palm the reel. I still much prefer a skeleton type of seat to anything else. They're not as pretty, but I can position my hand anyway I want and its comfortable. I have full contact with a larger area of exposed blank as well.
  13. x2 x3 I want to see something megabass quality Alright, let me get some pics snapped and I'll post info on some of my latest builds. Thanks!
  14. I took a couple of my new sticks out for break in this past Saturday. I was forced to cancel going to the the WV outing at Jimzee's place. We listed our house, and had 4 people wanting to view on the following Monday. I built two jig/worm sticks for myself, using Batson RX8+ and Castaway XP3 blanks. Spiral wrapped using micros, as always. I was extremely pleased with the results... We caught over 30 fish, these are pics of a few of the larger ones. Worm Phish Jig Phish My co-angler, pink frog phish
  15. Same thing happened to Glenn!!! Same thing happened to me, on a c-rig...
  16. I can attest to that, those bronze backs are incredible.
  17. Don't be hatin.... afterall, I gave you fair warning that I was going to be showing back up. Although, I hope you guys learned the moral of the story.... I do take money from two guys in a tin boat.
  18. In WV I think boat size/type is pretty much irrelevant. We don't have any waters that really warrant the really long runs or rough water, you'd typically see on the bigger tournaments scenes. I can see how much larger lakes, KY, Guntersville, Erie, etc... could put a dude in a tin boat, at a pretty huge disadvantage.
  19. Good luck, I typically hate the Kanawha. The ELK is currently pure mud, so I'd obviously head north, maybe even lock up.
  20. That's looking really nice! How easy does the paint chip from the reel seat? I've thought about painting my seats, but have never made an attempt.
  21. Cool! Thanks for the response! I don't do "many" on-top builds anymore, but I'm certainly going to play around with extending the butt guide. I typically go as far as the blank allows, which seems to be the norm, but I never really get out past 24 inches or so. If your end users are happy, you must be doing something right! Thanks!
  22. I've used and currently have builds based on the two blanks below.... Castaway XP3 MB844 7' # 8 - 14 1/4 - 5/8 MH Mod Butt - 0.566 Tip - 5.5 Wt. Oz. - 2.4 RX7 IMB843 7'0" 10-17lb. 1/4 - 3/4oz. butt 0.600 tip 5.5 Fast Medium-Heavy 3.06 oz. Both sticks are great values given their price range +/- $50 The RX7 is bit heavier, but has a slightly faster tip. The XP3 is really light and has a smaller butt, but has a tad slower action. In hand, the action of both sticks are very similar, I think the XP3 is closer to fast than moderate. As mentioned above, Swamplandtackle carries the XP3, and Lance is one heck of a guy to do business with.
  23. Lots of good information here. I'm of a similiar situation Alex, I can't recall the last time I ordered traditional guides. I typically order my micros in bulk, so specific estimations aren't important to me. I'm in the processing of completing 5 builds, 1 H, 3 M/H, and 1 ML, all 7ft sticks. All RX7/RX8 and XP3 blanks. I've been playing with the above builds and have tried to get my butt guide out past 24 inches +/-, with little success, when using a 3-5mm guide for my butt. If I migrate towards a larger, often two foot guide on the heavier action blanks, I've actually gotten out to 30 inches. So far in my test casting I can't see any benefit in the prolonged placement other than potential shaving a guide off. I'd be real interested to hear what pro's you may have found. I'm always looking for ways to improve!
  24. First class work, as always! Very nice!
