  3. Went fishing last weekend. After the first run, my wife says, "What's the oil sheen on the water from?" It turns out the filler cap for the hydraulic fluid on my power trim unit somehow worked itself loose. I lost pretty much all the fluid - replaced by lake water. The good news is that it's covered under Yamaha's warranty, so I get a brand new trim unit. The bad news is that it's in the shop until next week, so I'm land-locked when the fish are biting!! AAAGH!! I'm curious, though, has this happened to anyone else? It seems really out of left field to me. I've never known this to happen before, and I've been fishing for decades. Thoughts?
  4. AAgh!! I don't get either of those channels! >

Thanks guys! When I created these, a lot of effort was focused on the quality of the garmet and printing/embroidery. It's very difficult to show it in the pictures, but once you see them, you know what I mean. I'm delighted the quality is that noticable!
  9. Again, and I really need to make this perfectly clear - Ben was not banned nor asked to leave. He was cautioned regarding his actions - a warning - and that was it. Which was exactly how I dealt with PinkFloyd. I won't ban a person if I feel they have made an honest mistake and have a low chance of doing it again. It's unfortunate Ben decided to leave, but that's his choice. It's also unfortunate he elected to make a post on the forums about it, rather than discuss it with me. But I think Madhouse sums up exactly my thoughts very nicely. As for Pink's multiple smileys - he was simply experimenting with the site's capabilities, unaware that his actions would dramatically slow down the ability for everyone to view the post. True, it shouldn't have been done in the first place, but once it was brought to his attention, he immediately deleted them all. Lesson learned. The perception was that he did it maliciously, which isn't the case. One other lesson PFR learned was to never let his emotions rule his actions. Sending PM's when upset only makes matters worse. True, he sent an inappropriate PM, but he realized his mistake and apologized. Not only that, but he showed restraint by not replying to Ben's nasty PM in the same manner. Anyway, just as with PinkFloyd, Ben is welcome to stay now that the air has cleared. The choice is up to him.
  10. A 3-way rig is somewhat of a modified walleye rig. You tie a 3-way swivel to the end of your line and attach 2 monofilament leaders of lesser test to the remaining loops, one longer than the other (about 3 feet and 18"). On the long end, attach a 3-ounce ball weight. On the other, attach a shallow diving crankbait via a snap. To cast, you don't. Put your trolling motor on about mid-speed (for starters), and slowly lower the rig over the side of the boat. Do it fast, and the rig will tangle. Now, simply troll around productive areas. Speed up or slow down until you figure out how the bass want it. This is a good deep-water presentation that works especially well during the colder months, believe it or not. It can catch some seriously big pigs. However, just like the C-rig, I haven't mastered it yet.
  11. Ben sent an extremely inappropriate PM to another member, filled with four-letter words and graphic, hostile language. I let him know that his behavior was not appropriate and that he needed to clean up his act. His response was to quit the forum. I guess some guys can learn from their mistakes and grow up, others can't. That's too bad, he was a good contributor that made an honest mistake. :-/
  12. Just to clarify - I wasn't upset or offended at all. Not one bit. Apologies if I came across that way.
  13. That's about it. So long as the water is moving, it's worth fishing. So, the key to a productive day, is to get out the tidal charts and (now this is important) plot out the high/low tides up and down the river. Then, just follow the tides. For example, if you discover fishing is best on an incoming tide, start near the mouth of the river. When it's getting close to high tide, motor up the river to a spot that will give you another 45 mins or more of incoming tide. Repeat.
  14. C-rigging, 3-way rigging, and believe it or not, the trusty jig. I just haven't been able to produce on those (except finesse jigs). I don't know why, because I've given them all an honest shot. But, not every technique is for everyone. Take spinnerbait fishing. Now THAT is my comfort zone. When I'm throwing spinnerbaits, you're in MY house now! Same goes with Texas rigged worms. Give me 2 rods - one of each - and I'll catch fish.
  15. Actually, yes you can. I have. I can't tell you how many sites I've shut down because the site owner thought they could get away with copyright infringement. Hard lesson for them to learn, but not my problem. There's been a few I've had to sue too. Again, they came out on the losing end. Oh well!
  16. I never thought for a minute your were doubting anyone's integrity. You've been here long enough to know that everyone here gives honest answers and recommendations. The occasional snake oil salesman that shows up quickly realizes he walked into the wrong lion's den and makes a fast getaway! ;D
  17. For the record - I do not have any sponsors either. True, I do receive free samples every now and then for me to test and provide feedback, which I do. But these do not buy my endorsement (but they may garner my business). And yes, I receive steep discounts from a few major manufacturers, but these are not sponsorships. Oddly enough, these were brands I was using years and years before they even knew about me, so I was already loyal to them - when I recommend their products, it comes from the heart and not the wallet. Someday I may seek sponsors. Not because I need it, but because I believe in their products and wish to help promote them on another level.

  19. You must be looking at old posts. Most of those were caused by a glitch when we updated to the new software version. If you're looking at recent members - those were "self-inflicted", meaning they deleted themselves for unknown reasons (some accidental, some on purpose).
  20. When I fish a brand new lake with little or no information about it, I head straight for the points and fish them hard using a variety of baits and techniques. Then, if that doesn't work, I'll hit the inside or outside weed edges (depending on season), with a variety of lures and approaches. 99% of the time, I usually find fish that way. Occasionally I don't, and then that means one thing - they're buried in the weeds. So I go in, first covering the top with fast moving baits, and eventually working my way through the bait selection until I'm finally punching through the weeds with heavy plastics and jigs. If I haven't caught a fish by then, it's usually the end of the day anyway and I'm out of daylight.
  21. LBH - what an outstanding idea! Deal me in!
