Water Clarity
during my retrieve i see how far down i can see my lure. or for example, in one of the areas i go to often someone depostited a old shovel (sticking straight up) about 5 feet from the bank. before i start fishing i usually cruise by and see how far down the handle into the water i can see.

Release in a different pond???
im eage rto hear what happens, let us know. and if you think youre a dork for carrying a digital camera when fishing then i guess alot of us on this forum are too. got tired of my wife asking if that was really MY fish or if someone let me take a picture with thier fish out of pity!

Question about midday fishing...
i get bit most often between 10 and 2 just like roadwarrior has stated, but im usually out ALL day! i have found a mid-running crankbait, usually in red patterns, ratl traps in shad patterns and senkos t-rigged weightless, or wacky rigged take the bait for the majority of caught fish (these are also my confidence lures too). Like rw has said, gotta go deep for the big boys, but theres only so much you can do beating the banks!

boat fishing vs. shore fishing
i usually shore fish as i dont have a boat. but i am fortunate to be able to join freinds on their boats occasionally. i have to say that being a non-boater, manners often decide who goes on boats and who gets left at the shore. limiting rods, and tackle is often a nice gesture. but sometimes you cant beat the peace and quite of hitting a small pond early in the morning by yourself.

The power of observation
sometimes we over look the simplest of things ina rush to get out on the water. thanks raul, it was a good point to bring up, and many people will benefit from reading it, my self included.

Wacky Rig Mania!!!! A few problems/questions
im using spinning gear, a 6'2" ML action rod with 6# flouro, and a daiwa certate reel. At first i missed a bit of hits (a bit too many) so i switched to the ML rod from a 7' M action. then tied on flouro as per a friends suggestion. i also switched to a wider gap wacky hook that has allowed the senko to move just a bit back torwards the bend when hit as to expose more of the hook, and get a better hold. this has helped me. however since you stated that you were trying to avoid using a spinning set up i wouldn't truthfully be able to suggest a rod (since i dont fish wacky with a baitcaster). But the line change you mentioned would help. what type of hooks are you using? You may change that up too. hope this helps you.

Hot weather fishing
deeper water will be your best bet, as the other guys had suggested. Recently its been 90+ degrees air temp and 80+ water temp. i have found that alot of the smaller bass, are holding close to the shoreline in weeds and other cover, ranging from 2-4 feet mostly chasing baby luegill, and other small baitfish. beyond that the bigger boys are lounging in 6-8ft. close to weeds (as that is almost the only type of cover in the lake) and close to where the crawfish are hiding. Ive been using Rapala countdowns (perch color) that i can countdown to the desired depth, and metal vibration baits (in reds) that i can retrieve just above the weeds. Senkos have been working well weightless-wacky rigged (The senko gets hooked through the center with 1/0 or 2/0 hook tied directly to your line) Ive also found that a small fishing thermometer is a big help when it gets warmer and youre trying to find places that the fish may be. hope this helps.

When your wrong...admit it.
Mac. i respect you alot for admiting that you made a mistake, it takes a big person to admit that. Unfortunately like elkhunter has stated,we are all guilty of it.

Red Hooks for Senkos and Other Plastics
I havent noticed any differnece, i use black and red 50/50 and catch on both... The blsack cost less and hold thier coloring better. and sometimes its hard to find a fine wire hook in red! The jury is still out!

Sunnies For Bait
almost anything goes in japan. But you cant do it in oregon. Ive had it happen to me once, i was fishing for sunnies on a fly rod, and POW a 3#er came out of the weeds and nabbed him, i got lucky since the fly was big and got the fly hooked in the top of the bass' mouth, and was able to land him, what athrill, then on a fly rod too!

Things that have made you a better fisherman
since i recently got back into fishing, Ive been keeping a log of weater conditions, structure, where i caught the fish, on what, on what type of retrieve. this has help so much. i didnt do it previously and its no wonder i was rarely catching fish. now im learing how to establish patterns in similar areas. I used to get skunked quite abit, now i catch everytime im out, maybe only a few smallones, ore one big one but i catch! Ive also started asking questions, for exaple, since i joined this forum, my knowledge of fishing has increased dramatically, because of fellow anglers willing to share thier knowledge. Thanks!

FISHING GODS
First, i always wear one of many light colored fishing t-shirts, it gets me mentally hyped up. and secondly i always "play " (i guess im really organizing) with my lures the night before my planned outing. I used to not do this, but since i started in the last 8 months ive gotten bit more... who knows!?

What would you do??
i agree with roadwarrior, senkos would be the way to go. they work in a variety of sitatuations. but i would also suggest trying a crankbait as well, near weeds, shallow. After hitting weeds, i usually give a sharp tug to rid the weeds, and pause the retireve, this is when most of my strikes come. Good luck, and bring a camera!

where do you come from
Born in New Orleans La, needed new scenery and reloacted to Portland Or. Again change of view and landed in Osaka Japan. La has tons of little lakes and ponds, thats where i started, continued bass fishing in Or, when the season permitted. Also picked up trout/salmon, and smallmouth fishing, but still love largemouth! Try to fish lake and ponds when i can, but dont mind hitting rivers either!

WOW a snake head, ive seen them but never caught one, a little scary looking, then a 53 cm bass, congratulations!!!!!!!!! I hope that spot is less known so you get to hit it often! Ive often tried topwaters, a torpedo, spook puppy, and most recently the new Shimano, triple action, i havent got any hits yet. i tried early and late, open water near cover, and over weeds?????????? No action. any suggenstions... nice to heear youre landing excellent fish. have you taken any pictures?

thanks for the continued welcomes! gc, i was watching the hit last night they were inserting jig heads in to tube baits then cutting off the skirts, so there was only the hollow body, casting to tetras and other pilings, and catching chinu. i think they were in Wakayama, but i forgot, sorry. I have yet to try saltwater fishng for anything other than seabass. have you had any problems night fishing for bass, with other people/landowners? I wanted to try, but get soem info before i ventured out. What times have you found to be productive? have you tried crankbaits Yet? Jackall (lake police) makes a really good small crankbait called "cherry" the vibration and action are good, and bass seem really attracted to them. the shad color has worked for me, over weeds, ALWAYS parallel to the shore! Thats the only way i get fish. ive been keeping a log book of each outing since i moved to japan, thats the winning conbination everytime i have caught fish. have you fished any of the dams?

thanks gc, i havent tried the baits you mentioned so i guess i have to try them out. Im a bit curious how long have you been in japan? Ive been coming to japan once a year for the past 8 years , and only been living here for about 8 months. Have you seen the shrimp imitation bait released by ESG, alot of locals have been using it around marina areas and doing well. Im thinking that minnow imitations are better suited for seabass, but theres still a lot i dont know! Bassattackr, lucky craft has some awesome lure, some much different than whats avail. in the states. lucky craft runs about 7$ for graphite jigs, up to 20$ for larger baits including the popular pointer. then come the larger jointed baits that can go for 50$. According to a "selection manual" i picked up at the 2005 fishing show the prices seem to be the generally the same minus the addition of tax and duty.

They Just DONT UNDERSTAND! Who's with me?
I ve been married for only 2 years, and my wife is understaning about most things. I took up fishing again seriously about a year ago, after we married. At first it was a little tough, who can debate that once youre on fish its kinda hard to peel away from it. I learned that even when i wanted to go fishing i still had to keep the other commitments i had made to my wife. But recently no problems or concerns. Then today i saw this thread, and then i had to see if my fishing addiction was an issue ( i didnt think it was) and she agrees that its not as long as there is the age old COMPROMISE. We often have opposite days off, so the few days that we do have off together, we spend together. But she is also understanding about fishing trips and other outings that may cut into our quality time together. i try my best to make up for the times that im away.

Yes i am referring to nouike. And the carp in question are the beloved nigoi. The yamamoto bait is sold under the name "shad shape worm" in osaka they seem very popular, you should check them out. Im pleasantly surprised to find out you also fish for suzuki (hane in osaka), i do as well. I have yet to catch one, but ive tried a ton of times in osaka bay and also in tokyo with my brother in law. Any tips? I dont wade, yet. Ive tried the 4" power shad from ECO (iwashi imitation) witha 7g lead head. the action is nice. I think the seabass bite is on the decline right now in osaka bay unless youre on a boat. do you like tsuri-vision? I dont have sky perfect so im stuck with the daily regular shows. however i do like Fishing V and The Hit. Are there a lot of bass oriented shows on tsuri-vision?
