  1. I think the only fish I've seen you post about on here were both white spinnerbait fish. 9lbs. & this one. Lucky bait?
  2. I feel your pain. Costa Del Mars customer service is TERRIBLE. I had a pair of the brines and I accidentally popped a lens out and couldn't find it. I sent them in and paid about 60$ to have the lens replaced. Well about 3 months later the same lens comes out with no pressure or contact. I was ticked, sent them in and Costa calls me about a month later and says it will be 100$. They said that the frame had heat damage probably from keeping them on the dashboard. Problem is I drive a jeep and have never done that... >:| By this time I had already purchased a second pair of Costas from Ebay the Triple tails. Well that pair has held up nicely for almost 2 years, but the first is still sitting in my room with 1 lense and was only in service for about 8 months. It is really a shame because the glasses are great, sharp, great lenses, polarized lenses work good. But I'm not sure whether I would buy another pair, I would probably look into some other brands first. A company has to learn customer service is IMPORTANT. And I'm not complaining about price of repairs but the overall lack of communication, speed, and respect that I experienced.
  3. does it matter? I don't measure out the amount of line I will put on, I just start reeling and stop when it looks good.
  4. that is a cool idea, I might steal it and challenge myself to focus on a few choice baits when I go out.
  5. I fish a sliding 1/16 oz bullet on a 4/0 hook for the majority of my fishing. My favorite plastics to hook up are: 1. *** - all colors, durable baits and the slot the hook rest in gives a boost to my hook up ratio. 2. Rage tail Lizard, great action. I fish T-rigged plastics probably 80% of the time, I've been trying to force myself to learn all the cranks the bait monkey conned me into buying. ;D
  6. congrats on 2nd! solid fish there.
  7. the lake gets to about 30 feet deep according to info i looked up, it is spring fed and supposedly a fence line runs through the middle, I guess I'll find out. From what I have seen of the shorelines the bottom of the lake is mostly sand or muck.
  8. yeah I definitely learned this technique by accident, I missed a quick strike and just stopped and starting cursing myself, next thing I knew the fish smacked the bait again I had the chance to redeem myself.
  9. My cousin recently received as a gift one of those depth finders that you can strap onto your trolling motor and use portably in a jon boat. We are planning on going night fishing Thursday night probably about 9pm to 2am. We will be on our home lake that we always fish, but we have never had access to a depth finder and always just fished visible structure, points, and the shoreline. I know I have read on here to look for humps with the depth finder and of course if we can find trees of rocks we will drop a line deep. But is there any structure that may be specific to night fishing and the bass patterns at night. It is not very cold here in Florida so I'm not sure how much the bass have been affected by the weather. Anyways enough rambling, any tips for a couple beginners using a depth finder to locate some big bass?
  10. I got to say I had a bad experience with yo zuri US. I have 10# spooled on my BC and after just a couple fish and no backlashes I set the hook on a bass and it just snapped. Luckily for my sanity I saw the fish jump and it was only about a pound. This was frustrating because I have never really had it happen with other lines (except spider wire mono, which I will never purchase again). The line was not curled at the end so I don't believe it was a bad knot. Before this incident I really enjoyed the lines qualities, less stretch and good casting distance. I will continue to fish it and maybe I need to purchase some 12# or 14#...but I think I will buy 14# sufix elite when I re-spool again.
  11. dang, did you get a weight on that pup?
  12. You should try some red fishing is possible, cape canaveral is the worlds best red fishing area. My grandparents live in Titusville just north of cocoa.
  13. anyone who receives a legal paycheck can complain about being overtaxed. ;D I wish they just reported the check amount so I didn't have to see the other amounts adding up.
  14. I believe he asking whether the fish will make a jailbreak for the river and say forget this little pond or have a sense of their home enviroment and stick around even when the opportunity to inhabit a new water presents itself. Are the river and the pit connected currently?
  15. A 6.2:1 is considered an all-around reel I believe. You can fish any technique, but as people learn the sport and the bait monkey steps in they begin to build technique specific combos to give them an edge when using the application. 7.1:1 for buzzbaits, and baits that require reeling in slack quickly 5.1:1 for crankbaits I only own a 6.3:1 btw. I can't speak to whether it makes a big difference or not.
  16. oh man, epic adventure! I love reading stuff like this, the unique trips are always the best.
  17. Wrap your hand around a Curado 200E. don't do it... glad you found a keeper.
  18. Very good point. I did the same thing. I borrowed a friends BC to learn with to make sure I could do it. Once I learned a baitcaster I wasn't turning back. Bought the citica 200E (109$) and I couldn't be happier with the purchase. I would make myself only bring a BC to fish with so I wouldn't regress to my spinning tackle. In less than 2 weeks I had it down. Go ahead and buy a nice one if you are determined to learn it, I believe you really will prefer it. The citica E is a great reel and not much more then the 80$ you are looking at.
  19. Suppose that every day, ten men go out for beer and the bill for all ten comes to $100. If they paid their bill the way we pay our taxes, it would go something like this The first four men (the poorest) would pay nothing. The fifth would pay $1. The sixth would pay $3. The seventh would pay $7. The eighth would pay $12. The ninth would pay $18. The tenth man (the richest) would pay $59. So, that's what they decided to do. The ten men drank in the bar every day and seemed quite happy with the arrangement, until one day, the owner threw them a curve. 'Since you are all such good customers,' he said, 'I'm going to reduce the cost of your daily beer by $20. 'Drinks for the ten now cost just $80.The group still wanted to pay their bill the way we pay our taxes so the first four men were unaffected. They would still drink for free. But what about the other six men - the paying customers? How could they divide the $20 windfall so that everyone would get his 'fair share?' They realized that $20 divided by six is $3.33. But if they subtracted that from every body's share, then the fifth man and the sixth man would each end up being paid to drink his beer. So, the bar owner suggested that it would be fair to reduce each man's bill by roughly the same amount, and he proceeded to work out the amounts each should pay. And so the fifth man, like the first four, now paid nothing (100% savings). The sixth now paid $2 instead of $3 (33%savings). The seventh now pay $5 instead of $7 (28%savings). The eighth now paid $9 instead of $12 (25% savings). The ninth now paid $14 instead of $18 (22% savings). The tenth now paid $49 instead of $59 (16% savings). Each of the six was better off than before. And the first four continued to drink for free. But once outside the restaurant, the men began to compare their savings. 'I only got a dollar out of the $20,'declared the sixth man. He pointed to the tenth man,' but he got $10!''Yeah, that's right,' exclaimed the fifth man. 'I only saved a dollar, too.. It's unfair that he got ten times more than I! ''That's true!!' shouted the seventh man. 'Why should he get $10 back when I got only two? The wealthy get all the breaks! ''Wait a minute,' yelled the first four men in unison. 'We didn't get anything at all. The system exploits the poor! 'The nine men surrounded the tenth and beat him up. The next night the tenth man didn't show up for drinks, so the nine sat down and had beers without him. But when it came time to pay the bill, they discovered something important. They didn't have enough money between all of them for even half of the bill! And that, boys and girls, is how our tax system works. The people who pay the highest taxes get the most benefit from a tax reduction. Tax them too much, attack them for being wealthy, and they just may not show up anymore.
  20. I have the berkley digital scale from wal-mart too. $20. When I popped it out of the package I put a free weight from my home gym of 5lbs on a rope and then put it on the scale. It came in at 5.1 which is right on including the rope. A small investment so that you won't be that joker than nobody really believes when you catch the big one. To weight them put the hook underneath the fish where the skin of the gills meet the mouth, this will not hurt the fishes gills.
  21. lol. As a beginner just get yourself a nice combo that can be used for many applications. A Med / Fast rod or MH/fast and then build your arsenal from there. Unless of course you've got deep pockets and won't mind replacing a lot of rigs at once when you feel like upgrading.
  22. sounds like a great starter combo 89mj
  23. I started bass fishing on July 4th weekend. I have been obsessed ever since finding out the lake across the street is loaded with bass. So approximately 14 weeks and fishing 3-4 days a week, I probably averaged 4-5 fish per trip. 4.5x3.5x14= I'll go with 220. Don't ask me how many of those were 3 lbs or bigger, bc then I can use my fingers to count.
