  1. I had 5 keepers and another handful of non keepers. 4 of the keepers would have gone around 15lbs tho! Fish were suspended being very opportunistic about chasing a smartly presented bait. Foumd one point at the end of the day that had 4 fish right on it with the wind blowing hard on it. Not the most productive day but its always nice to get out and get a couple quality fish!
  2. I tried texting him yesterday, haven't gotten a response from him, hope he's ok.
  3. Pictures can be deceiving, this is a fish I caught just the other day that wasn't even 4lbs. I don't even try to put weights on fish if I don't have a scale, tends to bring a little grief on oneself from those that do weigh their catches!! Don't get me wrong, that's a great fish! Shimmy might have a little problem calling it a 5 tho!! Both of the fish in our right hands are over 5lbs
  4. TPK, 21" 5lbs, nice! Scale or guesstimate??
  5. I've caught green bass as well as striped bass on bucktails. Thinking about modifying some of the Spro's to be a little more "lifelike!"
  6. Troy, you make me laugh! Wayne, beauty!
  7. The guys that were fishing the tx on Saturday were electric motor club. I know Sunday a couple guys from FHBC were a little upset at them when they fished on Sunday when we fished our tx. I think the same guys were fishing a tx when we had our classic last year and didn't care if you were fishing a spot or not, they would just roll right on top of your spot and continue to fish right in front of you! Not to say they all acted that way, just my observation that day. Sundays tx was a little tougher than some of the last few! 18.88 won with two teams tied for second with 18.65. We found our fish in two spots for the most part. Our fish were caught on shakey, plastics and football jigs on points and isolated cover. We did catch some fish on blade but none that made the scale!!
  8. Not 100% sure on all the details, the guys at the marina office would probably be able to answer that question. I just figured I would let everyone know in case they wanted to get some funds together they would have a little time to do so!
  9. I usually fish down by the dam in one little spot this time of year
  10. While down at the park today, I was told by the park manager that Fountainhead park will be auctioning off some of its surplus jon boats on Saturday, September 21. From what I understand, it will be first come, first served, and each boat will be $150.00 cash only. You will need some way to get the boat home as they don't deliver and trailers are not included. If you have any questions you can call the marina office. These boats are not without some cosmetic issues so just remember the earlier you get there, the best choice of boats will be yours!!
  11. I use the pfluger president 30? I think on a kistler dropshot rod and a medium bait cast setup when bubba shot fishing. I think smooth drag is important, correct drag is most important!
  12. Never could get into the "fairy wand" for bass, I've got a couple nice orvis outfits, might have to tinker with them a bit more. Sounds like a day well spent!!
  13. Sam loves that place! I'm sure he will clue you in to all that happens on his favorite lake in Va!! LOL!!
  14. The smaller the bait the better at accotink. Look for stumps and lay downs, cast along tha thru them, you should get bit!!
  15. The wind will make the day on the res! Wish you had something more able to deal with the wind because you can load the boat in the right spot with the wind hammering a point or bluff face!
  16. Things could always be worse! When life kicks you smack in the junk, you just have to take a couple minutes, regain your composure, stand up and continue. You may walk a little slower but you are still walking!
  17. Anybody hear from Nitro or Zoff? Been awfully quiet from those two!!
  18. Tackle Warehouse, you are in trouble now! As I've said before, KVD LL is like franks hot sauce, "I put that s*** on everything"
  19. Plenty of fish feed on crayfish on the res. the fall and spring are good times to catch fish on jigs. Right now if you can find the right areas, you can destroy them on football jigs! I wasn't implying you are not able to recognize feeding fish, just that it usually is really apparent when they are busting bait rather than just rushing in and scattering the bait and making them nervous!
  20. Zoff might be able to help you with SML, you can try to PM him, havn't seen him post in a while!
  21. DJ, believe me, when you see or hear fish busting up schools of bait, you will know it. 9 times out of 10, you will see shad trying to flee but jumping clear out of the water. The bigger the shad, the bigger the fish! The shad balls you need to pay closest attention to are the ones that are nervous. Not to say that you can't catch fish thru the balls just cruseing, just a little easier to fool the ones actively feeding. Think swim jig or swimbaits. If you get an opportunity to see the size and coloration of the shad, match them as closely as possible. I've also had luck spotting bait suspended with fish below them and counting a bait down below the bait and catching the active fish feeding on the bait.
  22. It's not the easiest place to fish, but it will make you a better angler! I've been fishing the res for 20+ years and its always a challenge. You can take what you learn and apply it to any body of water and be successful! The number of people that have cut their teeth on fishing the res have gone on to fish other circuits and have had great results. I have no problem giving helpful hints, tips and tricks about how I have been catching fish, but I have to keep some stuff to my self!! It's a fine line between blanking and whacking them out there that its always a bit more fun to figure out the little subtleties that make your day! The res changes every day, every hour, every year, the challenge is where you grow as an angler!!
  23. Fish that we caught in the middle of the day were not very deep, only in a couple feet of water. Not sure if you guys realized there was a good deal of current flowing thru the res this weekend. When that happens its starts to put the fish a little shallower in the water column. The smaller subtle breaks will at track feeding bass, it's also a good idea to get around the visible schools of shad a and fish around and thru them!!
  24. First and second place had almost 25lbs, third place almost 24lbs. Partner and I had a paper clip over 17. Couldn't find any bigger fish. Caught fish shallow, caught fish deep, mostly on plastics. Hot as blazes in the middle of the day, I think there were 6 teams with bags over 20lbs!
