  1. I seem to get good feedback when posting questions like this, so I will try it again. 97 Jetta GLS, 4 cylinder, 5 speed, 2.0 I am trying to remove the power steering pump and I cannot figure out what bolts are still in tack that are helding the pump on. I have removed all the bolts/nuts that I could find. I checked my car manual and it says to take out the bolts but the details are very weak. P.O.S. Haynes manual!! Anyways, not sure if the pulley/belt are holding it on but how do you release the tension of the belt? I can't figure out how to do this. Here are some pictures of the steering pump that I am trying to take off http://s804.photobucket.com/albums/yy321/crankbait09/Power%20Steering%20Pump/ can anyone help?
  2. Sorry for not including the engine specs..........it is a 5spd, 4 cyl, 2.0 engine.......gas,
  3. I have a Haynes but it does not tell me the info i need.......
  4. my mistake.....it is a 97 Jetta. I am trying to replace the power steering pump with a new one and am having problems removing it.
  5. Can someone please tell me how to remove the tension from the power steering pump belt. i read that you need to release the power steering pump tensioner but have no clue where it is or how to do so.
  6. This is neither hore nor there.......but I was reading the reviews on BPS's website in regards to the PQ Baitcaster (there are about 570 of them). I am highly thinking about purchasing one of these, but while reading some of the negative reviews, I ran across a few that made me think. "This sounds more like operator error, and NOT the BC's fault". There are a lot of negative comments how this reel does not cast far. Maybe 20-30ft max. The users claim to adjust all settings on the reel and it won;t cast far at all. One person even claimed that he turned off all braking, and attached a 1/2oz weight to it and still couldn't cast past 30ft. That seemed odd to me. Also, since when is backlashing the reels fault? But here are a couple complaints I am quoting: "Bought a couple of these reels. Had Open Face spin-casters on the reel prior. Using 14lb test, pole is 7 ft. I tried following the directions to set the internal brake and the Magnetic brake, but no matter what setting I've tried I can't get the reel to cast very far. When I do cast I have to stop the spool with my thumb as soon as the lure hits the water to keep the line from "bird nesting" on me. Very disapointed with the product. Bearing are very quiet and there is no backlash in the gears. Just wish it would cast a lot better than it does." "I have not had a chance to fish with this reel yet, but I found that it was prone to backlash after I spooled it with 20 lb. braid and tried a few casts." "I would have given this reel 5 stars, if I were the type of person who loved to pick out backlashes. However, I love to fish and find myself longing for the reels of yesteryear--the Ambassador 5000 and 4500 series reels. To be honest, I've only used this thing twice, but it is the most backlashing reel I've ever used. No matter how hard the cast, or how far or near, I can expect to pick out at least 20 yards of tangled line EVERY TIME I CAST. I'll kieep using it for the near term in the hopes that will somehow, break-in, but given its performance to date, I'm not terribly optomistic." I could go on and on, but the complaints are all the same, for the most part. Either the reel backlashes, it doesn't cast far, or is NOT smooth.
  7. So I have heard...but Hey, if we can save a buck or 20.....makes it even better
  8. I saw that....after I posted this thread. I am looking to purchase one on the 11th of May. Which the sale ends priot to that (5th). Was wondering how long I was gonna have to wait for the next sale.
  9. I am waiting for BPS to have a sale on their Pro Qualifier Baitcaster. I think they just had it on sale for $80 a couple weeks ago. Does anyone know how often they have the sale? I'm wanting to pick one up her ein the next 2 weeks....only if it's on sale though http://www.basspro.com/Bass-Pro-Shops-Pro-Qualifier-Baitcast-Reels/product/102287/65279
  10. I actually bough the President combo at Wallyworld for $80. Everything matches and it is a heck of a reel for the price......I was referred to this combo by a friend.....glad I got it......
  11. I was watching Shaw Grigsby's fishing show the other day and I notice that at the end of every one his signature rods, he has a big yellow ball attached to it? What is the purpose of that "thing"?
  12. hm, I know exactly what spring hose clamps you are referring to. makes sense
  13. We recently took my wifes car in to the Nissan Dealership to have some work done on it. We were doing our "good boy" check of the fluids tonight and noticed this tool was left under the hood. They look like some type of pliers, more of a specialty tool but I am not sure what they are intended for. They are 7.5" in length Can anyone tell what they are for, looking at the pix?
  14. Scratch that, Just got my first issue in the other day....I am good to go!!!!
  15. I ran in to an additional problem while trying to get my hub off. I have all bolts removed except ONE. Here is a link to the bolt that still needs to be removed. The other two bolts in the area came right out, but this nut/bolt just spins. I have tried to use vice grips to hold it, but nothing. It looks as if this nut is supposed to be part of the metal piece but some how came apart. There is no hex head to it at all, but rather one complete circled head. How do I get this bolt out? http://i804.photobucket.com/albums/y.../Brokennut.jpg
  16. ok, thanks for the feedback!!
  17. I really hope so cause I like this months magazine........waiting for the hard copy to come my way
  18. Recently, I bought a magazine subscription to FLW Bass Magazine. I received an email last month or so saying that I can view the most current magazine electronically via there website. They have all the mazines listed for the past 1-2 years or so. Question is this, Am I not going to receive the magazine via the good ol' mail? Or is this an electronic magazine only? The magazine subscription was purchased through the actual FLW website. Anyone else experience this as well?
  19. I have posted this on a VWVortex website as well, but figured I would get it out to the another forum in case I can get help here as well. Recently, I went to my local auto shop and had them do an inspection on a Jetta, that I recently purchased. I was having them check the suspension and they came up with that I need to have the Wheel Hub Assembly replaced along with the bearings. Now he did say that my passenger side front hub is barely hanging on and he doesn't know how it's still on. I can only take the mechanics word for it. Today, I attempted to replace the hub but got to a point that I needed to search online for the next step. ANYWAYS.................I got to thinking. How do I know that my hub assembly really needs replaced? I went to the drivers side of the car and tried to wiggle the tire and it doesn't move a whole lot. It wobbles slightly but I am not sure how much wobble is TOO MUCH. When I drive the car, I hear no noises that would alarm me. I haven't heard any grinding or squeals or anything of the sort. Can I tell "visually" if a hub is bad? Here are some pictures of the hub assembly. This is as far as I got since I can't figure out how to remove it completely..........Can you see anything from the photos? http://s804.photobucket.com/albums/y...enger%20front/
  20. OK, let's switch out techniques then....... Has anyone ever tied on a.... let's say.....a arkie jig, and after casting X number of times, decided it was not working; Then turned around and tied on a football head jig? Then right after tying on that FB head jig, caught bass?
  21. I was reading the current FLW Bass magazine and they break down the specifics about fishing with jigs. (ex: football heads, round heads, swimming, etc.). They break down why one is best used over another. Then I got to thinking. Has anyone ever tied on a.... let's say.....a swimming jig, and after casting X number of times, decided it was not working; Then turned around and tied on a football head jig? Then right after tying on that FB head jig, caught bass? If one jig does not work, does the head style really change the chances of catching?
  22. hm, I actually use a snap for both. None of my baits have a loop or closed loop for the snap to hook to. I never have a problem with the spinnerbait or buzzbait not running true.
  23. thanks for that!! I will definitely give that a try
  24. This will be a very elementary question as well as quickly answered but....... Has anyone or does anyone place a trailer hook on jigs? (ex: football head jig, swim jig, etc)
  25. Has anyone tried these jackets by Frog Toggs? http://www.basspro.c...05011916/290161 I was looking at the BPS version and a lot of the reviews mentioned that it starts peeling and isn't meant for long term......anyone else have those issues?
