Ruger P95
Just a quick question.....why the P95 rather than the SR9 or the SR9c? About the same price point. The SR9c comes with a 10 round magazine and a 17 round magazine as well. The 17 round magazine transforms the handgrip into full size while the 10 round keeps it compact. I am 6'2" with large hands and both fit comfortably into my hand. As for Ruger service. I had an issue with one of the Cam block pins on my gun being loose. It came from the factory that way. They paid for shipping both ways and had it repaired in 3 weeks. Everything has run great. No fail to fire or fail to eject at all with this gun. My wife also owns the same gun and my father-in-law purchased the same gun around the same time. We all love them. Just another option.

If You Have A Daughter That's Starting To Date...
Just window and door sensors. Nobody gets in and nobody gets out. I guess they can stare at each other through the glass all day if they want. If they wake the dog then I am going to be ticked. Nothing says hello like my pistol pointed at them. We had a bunch of kids my daughter went to school with who thought it was funny to Toilet Paper a new yard almost every night during the summer. So when I caught wind we were coming up soon I grabbed my box of fireworks and had them waiting for the boys. When they stepped in the yard my dog let me know they were there. Since they knew the dog they weren't too scared. When I threw them out my window where they were preparing to have fun it was a whole new story. Elbows and buttholes everywhere. Funniest darn thing I have ever seen.

Don't think that the alarm system I had installed on the house is for just keeping people out. It also keeps people in.

If You Have A Daughter That's Starting To Date...
I have an 18 y.o. daughter that I dreaded the moment in which she began to date. Now after a couple of years she is free to move on preferably sooner than later. I guess as a parent the best you can do is teach your daughter the value of self worth. My wife and I have been very open about sex with our daughter and very open about the difference between positive and negative relationships. She has decided that it is in her best interest to wait until she is married. We did not push this on her, rather we instilled in her a great self worth and the choices associated with such a lifestyle. She has tons of friends, tons of guy friends, and is alone on her own now at school. She has decided to make it known to any boy she likes that there will be no sex involved. She has decided and it is her choice. I am very proud as a father to know she has decided to wait. We have had our moments, but it seems to have worked itself out. She came home Thursday from college and brought her new boyfriend with her. We had the spare bedroom cleaned out and ready to go. She made it very clear to us that they would be sleeping in separate rooms and that he already knew that. It was funny that she brought it up before we could. Just do your best and teach them how to respect themselves. She will be fine.

Do you carry concealed?
I got my permit about 4 months ago and I have carried ever since. I hope to never need to use my firearm, but I will be prepared in case. My wife also got her permit. She doesn't carry as often. She was the one who wanted to get the permits to carry, I think it was so that I would carry when they were with me. I have gone over scenarios with all of my kids and my wife as to how to react in a bad situation. My younger kids (5 & 7) were kind of shocked at first, but now it is just second nature for them. There is more to having the permit than just carrying, you become acutely aware of your surroundings as well. The first thing I do when I enter a new restaurant is excuse myself to the bathroom so that I can figure out how to leave if the need arises, I also make sure we sit in an appropriate place closest to an exit. Funny how your perspective changes.

Concealed Carry Holsters
What type of holster are you guys and gals using for your concealed carry pistols? I am currently using a Remora Holster. No clips, no buckles...... sits inside the wasteband and I carry in the small of my back. Not sure what I am going to do during the summer.

Concealed Carry Handguns
My dad loves the trigger pull on the PT140 as well. I guess I just like the shorter pull. Part of the pull is the Double Action as well. Do you use a laser at all? Trying to figure if I should spend the cash or not.

Concealed Carry Handguns
How you like that trigger pull on that Taurus? I got one from my father as a gift and I hate the trigger on it. My Ruger SR9c has a much lighter trigger pull and a lot less travel to get there.

Why Are The Trades Being Forsaken?
I was just recently having this discussion with several members of our local school board. I guess it boils down to the fact that public schools are for the most part geared and tested to get kids into college. I do slightly disagree with this as I have seen the statistics lately at the number of high schoolers who actually go into college prepared, but none the less they are tested at the high school level and judged based on how successfully they can "prepare" a kid for college. Very few tests exist outside that to measure productivity. I asked the school board members why we could not find kids who were not "College" material and steer them into trades or skilled labor jobs where they would function better without bouncing from odd job to odd job trying to find their niche. I would rather see a kid learn an applied trade in something they can make a living at rather than prepare them for something that they have no desire or need to do. Too many kids are going to college now with no idea of what they need to study or should study to find a job. No direction, no assistance, no thought into it.....just there cause they think they have to be and spend a small fortune doing it. It was explained to me that the schools do not have the right to "Label" kids as college material or not college material. That is the dumbest thing I have ever heard. The system has failed our kids.

I Am Really Confused By This.
Not a problem. Hope it helped. I had to explain it to my wife as well when we first started the calorie counting. Just be careful. You will quickly notice items that are high in calories and not really worth the count. You will find that those little snacks you have spoken of will add up fast. You need to find "healthier" alternatives that give you more fill for your calories bang. I know when I first started out I really was addicted to food. It took me 4-6 weeks to break that addiction. Yes I went through withdrawls and all. Headaches, sweats, cravings.......it was bad I had to find a few foods to get me through it. I found Emerald Dark Cocoa covered Almonds filled that void. Full of good fats, dark chocolate gave my mind the feeling of something sweet and it gave me a crunch to chew on. I have not had pop or soda for 2 years, but my wife had to switch to diet to get off the sugar. After beating the addiction, it is now easier to find my calorie budget. Just tonight we went out to dinner and both of us founda healthy meal at Red Robin that stayed within our calorie intake. One last note......if you are serious about working out to lose weight and are going to stick with it, do yourself a favor and look into a Polar F4 exercise watch. I just got mine yesterday. Cost me $62 from Bodytronics.com. I grossly underestimated my calories burned. It monitors your Heart Rate and calculates your calories burned based on your weight, height, age. I was estimating my calories based on my wife's. Low and behold I burnt over twice as many calories as she did doing almost the same exercises. Just a heads up.

I Am Really Confused By This.
Let me see if I can help more. Your body takes X amount of calories to keep it running each day. Lets say that is 3000 calories (also known as your Basal Metabolic Rate). If you want to lose a pound a week then you ideally need to eat 3500 calories less a week or approximately 500 calories a day. That is with just diet. If you exercise you can thus eat more calories or will lose more weight if you maintain your 3000 calories per day. If you burn 600 calories additional by exercise you can really eat 3600 calories per day and lose the same weight. If you eat the same 3000 calories and exercise you will lose and additional 4200 calories per week or just over an extra pound. Hope that helps.

I Am Really Confused By This.
what are you using for a calorie calculator? You really should not be losing more than a pound or two a week unless you go from a large calorie intake to a small one and add in tons of exercise. At 6'2" and 240 lbs I can consume ~2100 calories a day and that is calculated so I lose 2 lbs per week. If you have a smart phone or a PC you can get something called Lose it! There is an app for smart phones and a website to login to on the PC. It will ask you some basic info and then ask how much you want to lose. It will calculate your caloric intake for the day and allows you to either look up foods, or make custom recipes. It has just about everything. With the smart phone app you can scan the UPC code from an item and input it that way. Super helpful I have found. You can also add custom exercises or use the pre calculated ones on the site. It might help you to understand. I know it helped me to get a better idea of intake calories from what I eat.

Do You Weigh More Than You Should?
Exactly!!! When I first started my lifestyle change to control my weight I was a Carb junkie. The wife and I began with a no carb diet and then worked our way to a low carb diet. Along the way I was not consumed with how much I ate, but more that I was not eating "Bad" carbs. I leanred 4-5 months into my routine that I had raised my Cholesterol considerably and my doctor and I had the talk about going on a medication for it. I advised him of my weight loss and diet and he quickly agreed to let me make more changes to control what I was consuming. I can tell you first hand that you are more of "How much you eat" than "what you eat" if you have tried to eat healthy. I would encourage everyone who is trying to eat healthy to look into some form of calorie intake calculator. You would be shocked at the things you assume would be good for you only, to find that they contain a large amount of calories at the amount we consume. Simple things I have learned along my way: 1. Don't deny yourself food, you need to learn control 2. Find what your vise is and avoid it at all costs 3. Expect to have withdrawls.....Sugar is no less addicting than say smoking or drinking 4. I firmly believe that beginning with a change in diet habits is the first step, exercise can come later as you get your weight under control 5. Don't watch the scale. Take an intial weight, take measurements, go by how you feel and how your clothes fit 6. Don't go overboard. Too much too fast is not a good thing. 1-2 lbs per week is simple and healthy. You may even get better results than going to drastic and throwing your body into starvation 7. Find someone to do it with. This is hard to do alone and there are plenty of people out there who will want to discourage you 8. Most Importantly: YOU HAVE TO WANT TO MAKE THE CHANGE FOR GOOD.

Do You Weigh More Than You Should?
As of September 2011 I was 287.5 lbs and I am 6'2". The wife and I decided that rather than diet we both needed to make a severe lifestyle change to get healthy for life. She was 212 lbs at 5'3". We both were addicted to food and had zero habits for exercise. After five months of severe diet change I am happy to report that I am around the 230 mark right now. I joined a gym 2 weeks ago to rebuild the muscle mass I have lost over the years. I do not aspire to be a body builder, but want to be able to play with my kids out in the yard without getting tired. My trainer gave me some simple things to do and 2-3 x/ wk. I lost the first 51 lbs just on diet alone. My wife joined the gym back in September. She has lost 47 lbs and has improved her physical shape significantly. We had both been unsuccessful dieters for years. My goal is 215-220 and her goal is 140-145. They say it takes 90 days to form a new habit, but for every time you do it wrong it takes 18 more reps. At 3 meals a day that is an additional 6 days each time. I was into it about 120 days or so before I no longer had to think about what I was eating. By far the hardest thing I have done, but the most rewarding. I had to learn to b honest with myself and hold myself accountable. My wife has been a huge support for me and I am sure she feels the same way about me. Two weeks ago she found an APP for her smartphone called LOSE IT! It helps track.your calorie intake and your exercise expenditures. It has taken my ability to be accountable to another level. Obviously this is just me. I am happy to share what I have learned. It may or may not work for everyone.

Another Reason To Carry And Practice.
I went shooting last night at the local range with a buddy of mine. He had never been there before and it is in a not so choice neighborhood. We walked in at 5pm in the light and left at 7pm in the dark. Before we walked out I loaded 17 hollow point rounds in the bigger clip and 10 FMJ rounds in the smaller one. He asked why. He chose not to do anything. I slipped my 9mm into my Remorse holster in the middle of my back and walked out the door. There were a group of 5 or 6 teenage youth across the street where we parked. I told him not to arty and we walked across the street. Never know when they may grow a set, but I was prepared for just about anything. He called on his way home to know where I got my holster and my hollow points. It was pretty funny.

Browning Hi Power Wtb
I would check on ebay. There are a bunch of different kinds listed there. I did not get a chance to go through them all, but there has to be an Oak set in there somewhere.

Another Reason To Carry And Practice.
You just never know when. My B-I-L got run off the road a couple months back by some high school kids who thought he and his wife were an elderly couple they could take advantage of. By his description, this does not seem like the first time they had pulled this stunt. He made the mistake if exiting his vehicle without realizing that the other two vehicles involved had both exited their vehicles. One kid sucker punched him before he knew what was going on. When he regained his senses after being punched he pulled his pistol and let everyone know he planned on using it if they didn't stop. Neither kid believed him and continued to come at him to assault him again. Then he dropped the laser sight on one of the kids chest. They quickly scattered after realizing he wasn't kidding. He came within one step of having to defend himself. They ended up arresting both of the kids and one of them has a police officer as a father. The other kid has a rap sheet a mile long at 17. It could have ended much worse for any of them.

Used Shotgun
I was looking for a gun show in my area a month or so ago and found several that were not listed in the paper. Just do a Google search for gun shows in your area. We have a few FFL dealers here who put one on every week in a different location. Some of them charge admission (usually $5) and some don't. Just a heads up.

Another Reason To Carry And Practice.
I never paid a lot of attention to where I sat in a restaurant or anywhere for that matter. After taking my CPL course I pay much closer attention and and always looking for a always out in case of emergency. With that said my wife understands where we sit and where to go. She took the course also. My main objective is to get them to safety and then defend if necessary. She shoots pretty darn good herself so I have some good backup. I don't like that she carries in her purse, but better than not at all.

Inspiration From The Heart
Love him or hate him, he is better news and a better person than the NFL used to get publicity for. No strip clubs, no fights, no kids out of wedlock with multiple women, a lot better image for the NFL and major league sports in general. There have always been good guys in professional sports, but they often work behind the scenes and either don't want the spotlight or can't handle it. More power to him for being a positive role model and influence for kids and other players. Keep up the good work Tim.

Smart Phones
It has been a couple years since I had to deal with iTunes and their account stuff, but my two sons got Nook Tablets for Christmas this year. I had a similar issue with them. They want a Credit Card on file even if you are using a gift card to make purchases. No Credit Card, no purchases and they charge for everything. One of my biggest complaints, can't get "free" apps that you can get on other Android based products. You have to pay B&N for them, it may only be a few bucks....but still.

Concealed Carry Handguns
Was in Nashville between Xmas and New Years with the Family. Wife and I both have been looking for handguns to carry concealed. She absolutely loved the feel of the Ruger SR9C. I thought it was nice and the feel was good. Then she came home and found a place to shoot one. She fell in love and I bought one yesterday for her. She is pumped. Now to get a 1000 rounds through it ASAP.
