  1. Ive boated an 8 inch bass on a 10 inch worm...so the big bait, big fish theory may not ALWAYS be true.
  2. Got a large Live Crawdad from the local lake and want to match the hatch. The color of the Crawdad is like a rusty brown with light blue pinchers. This obviously an adult as the smaller ones are like a grey/light green pumpkin throughout. I'm thinking for an adult Craw the best color would be a pumpkinseed with blue claws/appendages,and for a juvenile a green pumpkin or pumpkinseed throughout. Anyone know where I can get a bait in the adult colors I've listed above?
  3. Peeled the generic "Assorted Deep CB Crankbait" decal back and discovered this color is called "Brown Shad." Never seen any Bill Dance baits with this color.
  4. Picked this up at Walmart today. It's a Bill Dance Signature Heddon Popn Image. I don't see Excalibur listed anywhere. This color is a tan side, black scale, black back with a red stripe down the belly. I've looked on the Pradco/Lurenet/Heddon/Excalibur website,I've also checked the BPS website. I can't find a simiar Colored bait. Anyone know what color this is callef? Is it an uncommon color?
  5. Wondering how everyone fished these? What's the best presentation for these? Are they strictly a shallow water technique,or is weight a necessity?
  6. I had the anchor down but would still drift at times, think i need a larger anchor
  7. The trouble I was having with the wind was boat position, couldn't get it to sit in one place(drifting) and the big bow I would get in the line. Regardless, the fish just inhaled the bait. Guess they gotta be aggressive when eating live Craws. That's no time to peck at the prey. It's all or nothing.
  8. FINALLY...Got some action on the Rage Craw. Was pretty windy today and fishing was slow. I could have torn the dinks up with a Drop Shot, but decided to throw a Rage Craw instead. Had it rigged on a 3/0 EWG Eagle Claw Hook and a 3/8 oz bullet sinker. Because of the wind,it was hard to detect bites. Most bites were on the fall, and the fish crushed the bait.A couple of the fish got gut hooked, but survived.I couldn't help it I didn't feel the bite, and the fish was just there. Hopefully the next time won't be so windy, and ill actually be able to "fish" the bait. On a T rigged Rage Craw what's a popular, productive retrieve style/method. Does dragging it work well, what about the standard lift method where you go from 9-12 clock in gradual steps?
  9. Anyone know the Spawn like a science? If so can anyone clarify it to me based on what a guy told me just this weekend? Ive seen this guys Youtube Videos as he fished bedding Bass. Hes pretty successful at the local lake. Met up with him in a park recently, and since he fishes for bedding fish alot,I asked if he had been to the lake recently and what the status of the Spawn was. He told me the spawn hasnt even started at the local lake.Additionally he told me that fish go on beds real late in my state because a majority of the lakes in Az are really deep (80ft+) and that the biggest Bass are sitting in the depths, and dont even realize the water is warming until way later than alot of places ,thats why according to him, youll see Bass Spawning in June and July. Does this make sense,or is he just feeding me a bunch of crap? I caught 2 fish that were at least 5# each a couple of years ago in May. They were caught about 5 hours apart, pretty close to the bank, but I wasnt bed fishing. I was throwing a Wacky Senko and just stuck em. Could these have been Bedding fish?
  10. Think we all have. I've lost a Rattle trap and a spend Spinnerbait on the first cast,on separate occasions. I lost a 6 inch non weedless Hudd a few weeks ago,got snagged up.
  11. There are those that are lucky enough to have a boat to stand up in and throw a Carolina Rig. But there are also those(myself included) that have a smaller boat, canoe or Kayak and standing up really isnt an option. Throwing a Carolina rig while sitting down can be cumbersome and not very efficient.Baitcasters can get some gnarly birdnests and such, spinning reels offer a little relief. I may have a tip to assist those of us that must sit down when we cast. Get a Zebco 33. Laugh all you want, but if you havent fished a Zebco 33,youd be surpised on how well these handle. No,they arent low profile,hi speed, not easy to palm,But they cast like a dream. I started using them years ago to lob weightless live nightcrawlers t-rigged into base of trees for Bass. They handle small weightless baits like a charm. And they rarely,if ever foul up the line. These reels arent very good for fast moving reaction baits like Cranks,Spinnerbaits, and Buzzbaits. However,Poppers,T-rig,Carolina Rig,Neko Rig,Dropshot and other slow moving presentations are ideal for this reel. Try a Zebco 33 out and you may be pleasantly surprised at how well these reels function. *MODS* Not sure where this should be posted at,so if its in the wrong section can you please move it?
  12. How would a 6'3" MH spinning rod be for larger spoons,like a Strike King Sexy Spoon,or a 3/4 to 1oz Kastmaster?
  13. The setups I use the most are casting setups, with a baitcaster and casting rod. The only time really ever use a spinning setup,is when I dropshot or I'm wanting to get distance on a light lure without the fear of a birdsnest. I also use a spinning setup for light jerkbaits. Have a 1 piece MH 6'3" spinning rod. What application would this be best for?
  14. Is there a chapter in Arizona for C.A.S.T. for Kids?
  15. My mom volunteers at a "family center" which takes donations of food and clothing and gives it to the needy. The other day the lady in charge was checking the donation box and came across some fishing equipment. This isnt usually the kind of stuff thats donated, and the family center really didn't have a need for the stuff,so the lady in charge asked my mom if she knew anyone that likes fishing. My mom knows I love to fish so she graciously accepted the items on my behalf. I go over to get the stuff from her house and I'm dumbfounded at what she brought home. Shakespeare 6'6" MH casting rod Berkeley Lightning Rod 6'6" MH Casting Rod Mitchell Fulcrum 6'3" MH 1 piece Spinning Rod and Lastly.... Falcon Lowrider Carolina Lizard Dragger I 7'0" Heavy Action Casting Rod. This last one details at TW for $150... Also in the lot was a Zebco 33 Classic Reel and an Abu Garcia Ambassadeur Pro Plus Baitcasting reel. As far as the Falcon Rod...other than Carolina Rig,what would this rod be ideal for? Swimbaits,Deep Cranking?
  16. Picked it up at a Yard Sale over the weekend. It was pretty fithy from storage so I took it apart and cleaned it up.Lubed it and it all seems to function fine. Havent cast it yet though. Anyone know the exact model of this reel, perhaps the year of manufacture or ball park? Any specs(gear ratio and such) would be appreciated as well.
  17. In RUSSIA,Grub fishes you...
  18. Where I fish,we have to deal with the aggressive Green Sunfish. They hit a dropshot so hard, and are gone before you can even fathom what just happened. Sometimes you stick a good solid one and its worth the fight they have in them.
  19. Ok so I've been taught that in clear, sunny conditions that a silver bladed spinnerbait is best. In cloudy, low light situations, gold blades will work best. What about days where its sunny and then cloudy off and on throughout the day. Which blade color choice is preferred on days like these? Do you have 2 different poles rigged up? Oh and in what condition does one use painted blades, ideally?
  20. SK took care of me a few years ago. I emailed them about some RES Baits that had swelled up from the heat, and that a series 4 had split at the seam from the heat. I emailed them pics as well. They sent me a package with 4 series 6 and 4 RES in the sexy Shad color. I also got a hat and a catalog.2 months later I got a duplicate package from SK. Don't know why,but I wasn't arguing.
  21. I throw a 3 inch Berkeley Dropshot worm in gray. Otherwise I throw a purple kut tail worm.
  22. Picked up a pair from BPS.Can't remember the cost but I think it was less than $10
  23. Makes sense...I can put all the scent I want on a bait, isn't gonna help a durn thing if there aren't any fish present.
