  1. Is there any bait you dont wacky rig? What kind of success do you have wacky rigging Baby Brush hogs?
  2. There is a tag with some stamped numbers on it. Not all the numbers are legible. Theres also a tag on the carburetor, but that will only tell what carb it is and that carb may have been used on many motors...right? So does this tag give any indication on the lineage of this outboard?
  3. I got this outboard with a 12' Jon boat I recently purchased. I know nothing about the outboard. I do know its NOT locked up and spins over freely. Does anyone recognize this motor? What year, make and model might it be? Any guess on HP rating? More pics are available if needed for better identification Thanks in advance
  4. Guess I gotta look for small Bluegill. There arent any Shad in the lake I fish and Im guessing the bass primarily feed on the Bluegill or Crawdads.
  5. Every so often ill get into a fish that weighs 2 lbs or more. Otherwise its Dink city.I wouldsay my Strength is Dropshotting,I always catch something on a DS.. Ive sized up my baits from 3 to 4 inches but im still in the dinks. Whats a good size dropshot bait that might fend off the dinks and get me into larger fish? Ive thrown 5 inch Stickbaits (senkos) and again its Dink city. How big am I gonna have to go on my Dropshot to get away from these dinks?
  6. I have read several articles about "Fall" Fishing. They have great tips and such but I was wondering when those tips would apply to us in the Desert Southwest. In many parts of the country the daytime temps have fallen and thus the Bass have changed their behavior/Feeding patterns. Here in Arizona, where I live, were still looking at 100+ degree days and I cant tell when that will end. So with the temps still being that high, are fish gonna still be in their Summer Feeding pattern,or because the days have gotten a little shorter, they should be in the Fall pattern? When can I typically say "fall" has arrived in Arizona as far as a Fishing stand point. Is there a specific temp? Because even in December we can still be looking at average Temps in the mid to high 60's
  7. I have some steel bullet weights I dont really care for and am slowly "losing" them in my lake by using a dropshot. Below the bullet weight I pinch on a tiny splitshot. The "cupped" portion of the bullet weight sits right on top of the splitshot very nicely. If I get hung up,it pulls off,and im down one less steel bullet weight.Works out ok,and I even catch fish at times on this setup.
  8. Wondering if anyone has any opinions about this line? What about the 100% FC line with the Green Tint, does the color make any difference or does it have any issues with visibility as clear FC is supposed to be invisible. Does the Green tint make it less invisible?
  9. Ive seen baits made by "The Producers" from time to time on Ebay. Anyone know anything about this company? Hows the quality on their products?
  10. I have only Ice Fished once in my life and that was when I was stationed in Alaska. That outing is an experience that I wouldnt miss if I never got the chance to do it again. Talk about COLD!! Whoa!!
  11. Whats this ice and snow everyone speaks of? When it gets colder, the trout stockings begin, and I might target them with an ultralight and some spinners
  12. Still doesnt tell me how deep these go on the retrieve, I know some have said 4'. Of the 4 Crank-R baits I recently purchased one of them says "DEEP CRANK-R" on the lip. All 4 baits look identical with the exception of the colors. If they only run 4' how is that considered to be "DEEP"?
  13. We all know KVD is a Dynamite fisherman. Years ago KVD was the "man" when it came to Spinnerbaits As of late hes been killing the competition with Cranks(Both Lipless and Diving) So now that KVD has changed up his tactics, would anyone say they KVD's strength (for the time being) is Crankbait fishing? How many tourneys has he won throwing spinnerbaits vs how many tourneys has he won throwing cranks?
  14. I have some Pure Poison Baits from Strike King. On the back of the package, barely readable(marked out with black marker) it reads "Licensed by Rad Lures" Which is of course the first company to make the Chatterbait before Z man took them over.
  15. Ive watched TV shows and had people grimace and grumble when the hook into a Spotted Bass. Whats the big turn off about catching these? Are they considered Trash fish, are they pesky and will bite anything? Why the brow beating on Spots?
  16. So when you catch a state record, does it have to be killed or can it be released? The lake I fish is at least an hour away from anywhere there might be scales. How would this play out? Id catch a potential record fish,im out in the boonies(ZERO cell phone service) and I want to have the fish recorded and release it. Id have to wait for the Dept of Game and Fish to show up,which is at least 2 hours away, then id have to find a certified scale. Looks like the whole plan of releasing a record in the lake I fish would be no good. the fish would likely die by the time I get everything setup for documentation. I dont have a livewell so keeping the fish alive except at the lake would be difficult at best.
  17. If you look at a crankbait,to most it looks like a fish imitator. Think outside the box,and I think what you really are looking at is a fleeing crawfish. The color patterns are to catch fishermen, not just the fish. We look at a CB as a shad pattern. While its wiggling and wobbling,is that really what it looks like? Its doing its dance so quickly that all you really see is a blur of colors, which in my opinion looks nothing like whats painted on the side. Why whould a craw pattern be painted on a bait to have the craw swimming forward? Thats not craws swim, and I bet thats not whet the fish see. Watch an actual live craw fleeing, and its so fast that all you really see is a blur of the basic color and a specific shape. You cant make out the legs, the claws or the eyes when a craw flees. Unless of course its on a video and put in slow mo. Look at the Koppers Live Target Crawfish. Theyve got it right.Looks like a crawfish pattern, but take away the crawfish pattern and it looks like a plain old crankbait body.Bomber will be coming out with some of the same designs. The body of a basic Crankbait, but a paint scheme of a fleeing crawfish. So when we throw Crankbaits are we throwing a bait that looks like a fleeing fish when the predator fish sees it OR are we throwing a bait that looks like the silhouette of a craw fleeing, and its the action the fish are after,NOT the color scheme, cause its likely what a fish sees is just a blur of mixed colors. anyway. And the ratle? Larry Dahlberg has footage of an actual Crawfish fleeing, and it makes a "clackin" sound upon scooting backwards. So in closing I once again ask the question...Is a crankbait a fish imitator of a crawfish imitator, regardless of the paint scheme. EDIT: Look below at the links I have posted,Think I just answered my own question. Heres what the Koppers live target and Bomber baits look like.Take away the paint schemes and you have the basic shape of a crankbait. 18. Now that I have both a 10' and 12' Jon boat,I am looking at possibly retiring the 10' boat ,but before I do that I want to "pimp" the 12' boat to my liking. (Actual length according to the paperwork is 11.6') liking. I was thinking of building a deck for the front of it so I can stand up and fish. I currently have to sit down to fish in my 10" boat and im missing opportunities to pitch and flip, and sitting down,I believe may hinder my casting distance, hookset and bait presentation in some occasions. So I guess what im really trying to ask is,Is this 12' Jon large enough of a boat to put a deck on,and has anyone else "decked" a 12' Jon boat with success?
  19. Guess I just went in to "fun Fish" yesterday because with the weather and wind I wasnt expecting to catch ANYTHING. When I did it was a very welcomed surprise. I was less uptight yesterday, and normally I get easily frustrated when my hook gets into one of my other poles and such. Ive also been trying to keep a Strike King Professional in mind. Clay Dyer. He truely is an inspiration. Thinking of him when I get flustered can seriously calm me down.Hes got so much going against him but he still keeps on keeping on. Heck,if he can fish with his condition, become a pro and place in Tourneys, why should I let a little ol day of fun fishing get me all worked up when things dont go right. Clay Dyer might even be able to put some of us to shame with his abilities, and for some of us,hed whoop the pants off of in a fishing contest...
  20. Ive heard this many times and cant figure out what makes wind your friend. I do know it can save on your TM battery when you want to drift somewhere, but it can also be a killer when trolling into it or trying to steady your boat. I bring this up because yesterday I went to the lake and it was stupid windy. Normally I give up in the wind and go home, but I wasnt so determined to catch fish,I was just out there tooling around. The bite wasnt "hot" but I did manage to boat and release a total of 9 fish. None were huge, biggest about 2#. I dont know if it was the wind,or if it was because I dedicated my day to pretty much only throwing a Dropshot that made it pay off. Was weird, the wind didnt bother me as much as it normally does and it was blowing pretty hard. So I guess when fishing in the wind, dont let the wind defeat you. Lots of money has been won in tourneys where wind was a terrible deterrent. Keep this in mind, when the tourney pros go to a lake, they dont have an on/off switch to dictate the wind or any other weather. They gotta fish in the conditions that are handed to them. Lot of times they do real well even in horrible conditions. If they can tough it out and be successful...So can you (and I). Ive decided not to give up when the weather turns(with the exception of when the weather gets hazardous) Try to remember this: NO EXPECTATIONS....NO DISAPPOINTMENTS
  21. So do all these Crank-R baits have a Transparent body? All 4 of the ones I just got are see through.
  22. A couple of the rods I use are made by Shakespeare. Some might laugh but they work as well as anything else I have ever used.Im not a Brands type of guy either. I mix and match based on what I can afford: Berkley Cherrywood Rod with a Shimano Bantam Mag Reel(Baitcasting combo-Rod New $30;Reel inherited from my Uncle) Shimano Sojourn Rod with a Pinnacle Slyder Reel(Baitcaster combo-Rod new $15;Reel New $20) Daiwa D Shock Rod with a Daiwa D Shock 2000 B reel(Spinning Combo-$20) Shakespeare Excursion Rod with a Shimano Sonora 1500FA Reel(Spinning combo-Rod New $15;Reel New $18) Shakespeare Cirrus UL combo(Given to me by my wifes friend) Now I may not catch Whoppers like Big-O on these, simply because there may not be big fish in the lake I fish, but when I tie into them im sure these "Cheap" combos will handle the situation just fine. Its just like Drag Racing. You can have the best of the best, best engine, best tires, fastest car in the world. All of that isnt squat if you cant cut a light(reaction time) Basically if you cant drive, the best of the best isnt worth a dime. You can have the best rod, reel, line, bait, but if you dont know the basics your just not gonna catch anything. There are some items you MUST have when fishing certain situations. Deep Cranking you must have the correct rod and the correct gear ratio reel or your gonna wear yourself out(Learning this now) Sure you CAN throw deep cranks with any old setup, but its not gonna be as enjoyable as if you threw the same bait with the proper setup. Throw a deep crank with an UL and then throw it with the proper gear and youll understand what I mean.
  23. This is the rod in question. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=190437260341&ru=http://shop.ebay.com:80/%3F_from%3DR40%26_trksid%3Dp4712.m570.l1313%26_nkw%3D190437260341%26_sacat%3DSee-All-Categories%26_fvi%3D1&_rdc=1#ht_500wt_957 Please tell me this is a Cranking rod and not a spinning rod!! I contacted the seller prior to the purchase and asked the same question question and he confirmed it was a cranking rod...Im a little concerned that it might not be though. Description says its a medium power and I see in one pic where it says "Fenglass" So does that indicate its a Fiberglass rod?
  24. Just picked one up on Ebay. Its a FS 76 CML. I take it that because its a 7'6" rod that its probably gonna be a MH...Correct? What vintage might this rod be and whats the retail on it?
