Rapala Knot applications
I know a Rapala Knot is supposed to be for Cranks and sub surface lures, allowing the bait to swing freely. A Duo Lock fastener can do the same for those baits. What about Topwater applications like a Popper. Its suggested to not use any kind of metallic fastener as it will weigh down the nose, thus creating an unnatural effect. Wonder if a Rapala knot would give a popper a better, more natural look to the fish,or is that a weak link on hooksets and that a regular Palomar would be better. Thoughts on this subject?

Just doing some pondering on a technique
Ive recently picked up a liking for throwing crankbaits. I am actually a soft plastics kind of guy but im trying to expand my options and be more versatile. Ive read that a good way to get a Crank to a deeper depth is to use a crank on a Carolina rig. Along that school of thought, what about flipping the script a bit. Using a regular snap fastener, put on the crankbait of your liking, whether it be deep or shallow. Remove only the rear hook(not the split ring) from the crankbait. Tie on a leader to the rear split ring(you decide the length) and a worm hook with the plastic of your choice.I think a Fluke would work well here. Wouldnt the wiggle/wobble of the crank create a good bit of erratic action for the soft plastic on the leader? Or is this a tangled mess just waiting to happen? You would still have one hook in the belly of the crank,so your chance of hooking up on it are still alright, and if the crank doesnt get em maybe the soft plastic will. Of course you would have to vary your retrieve to determine which speed the fish may strike the best. I was thinking of it as a technique similar to throwing a Dropshot, and replacing the weight with a Jig and pig. A double whammy!! Anyone ever tried the crankbait/plastic bait technique I described?

Deal or No deal? Whats this deal worth?
Personally I have never heard of a restriction on 2 stroke outboards here in Az. I know the lake I go to has an 8 HP restriction, some people get around that by putting 4 or 5 HP decals on a larger engine. In addition to this 12' jon with trailer I just picked up,I have a 10' jon that I regularly use. I tool around the lake in it ,only propelled by a 40 Thrust Minn Kota TM. In the lake I fish a TM is all you REALLY need.

Wordens FATFISH Crankbait
Ive read that these are designed in the Northwest to be trolled for Steelhead and Salmon.Package says the regular 1/2oz size will troll 10-15 ft on 15# test,However,Im not interested in Trolling them for Bass Anyone ever used these Cranks for Bass? Wordens makes a FLATFISH and a FATFISH. Im asking about the FATFISH Cranks(Similar to a Storm Wiggle Wart) NOT THESE-- https://www.thefishinhole.com/imagesProducts/big/3748310.jpg Id like some info and input about these: http://www.fishermans-corner.com/WORDENS_FATFISH.htm An excerpt from their website: The Yakima Worden's FatFish Lure features a one piece molded body and lip and has multiple rattles for added attraction. The Yakima Worden's FatFish Lure is designed and molded in the Northwest where steelhead and salmon fishing is a way of life. The Yakima Worden's FatFish Lure is the first plug created specifically for steelhead and is designed to "outwiggle" the competition at super slow trolling speeds yet will maintain stability in current and at high trolling speeds. Body Length 2 3 / 4 inch, Weight 3 / 4 oz.

Deal or No deal? Whats this deal worth?
It was kinda cool. I was out paying my Car Insurance and this guy noticed the 10'Jon Boat in the back of my truck. Gets to askin me if I want a larger boat. He goes into detail about what all it includes and im thinking he was gonna say some big $$$ number. This was a deal I couldnt pass upIm thinking the trailer alone is worth at least a little money. Now once I find out if its waterworthy and get it outfitted it to my liking,I can sell my 10' Jon and try to recoup some money. The $300 was the asking price and he needed it gone as the apartments where it was stored was looking to take possession of it. They had already cut the guys lock and put their own on the chain. As I was hooking the trailer up to my truck, there mustve been at least 6 maintenance/groundskeepers that inquired about it.Ya snooze...Ya Lose!!!

Dont overlook the Dropshot
Ya know I was excited to land that fish, but even more excited to see it swim away. I didnt let out the "yee-haw" until it was out of my sight. Then I knew all was well.I was satisfied and the fish was gonna be alright. There was a little more daylight left, but after stickin that fish I called it quits, with the excitement I was exhausted. I mean how can you top that after fishing all day long and only catching 3 others that were smaller than 1#? Im so used to catching sub 2# fish, this was a very welcome surprise. In the words of the famous Rapper ICE CUBE..."Today was a good day..."

Bubba Bass
Caught this fish today on a Megastrike Stickbait. Fish may have gone 2#. Thought I had a Spotted bass Judging from the size of its mouth. The fish had a serious underbite like "Bubba" from Forrest Gump. Fish was released unharmed. What could have caused this deformity of its upper jaw?

Dont overlook the Dropshot
I spent all day on the water today. I threw the following: Soft Stickbaits(3 Fish caught, biggest being about 2#'s) Deep Diving Crankbaits (hooked a Dink but lost it at the boat) Tried a Live Craw and had a fish just about pull my rod into the water(Not a huge fish, but struck the craw like a sledgehammer) I also threw my ol reliable Dropshot and caught wwhat may be my new PB. I havent caught a fish this size in years so it may or may not be bigger than my previous PB. I was using a Daiwa Medium-Light action rod with a Daiwa Spinning reel. 30#braid with an 8# Fluorocarbon leader. A #2 Stainless Octopus/circle hook and a 4 inch swimmin grub from a Japanese company. The fish pulled like a train, jumped out of the water once and had me adjusting my drag the entire fight. I felt like Mike Iaconelli, and how he works his fish on a spinning outfit. Im guessing this fish went somewhere in the neighborhood of 5#+. Or am I just being too generous. Be realistic, what might this fish have weighed? This fish was a Fatty!! The hook The bait I was using

Carolina Rig Question(s)
The 10# FC is whats already on the reel, and its just too expensive to strip off to put anything else on.I know that the leader is supposed to be a step down in # test so thats why I opted for the 8# I just had a little bit laying around. I know its not ideal setup, but it should work...Right? Im not a dedicated Carolina Rig thrower and I may spend an hour every outing trying it out if nothing else is working.

Carolina Rig Question(s)
I have a Carolina Rig setup on one of my rods. The main line is 10# FC and the leader is 8# Mono. With about a 3/4 oz egg sinker with 2 small beads between the sinker and the swivel. Im fishing this on a 7'0" MH rod with a 5.0:1 ratio reel Is this too light a setup for a Carolina Rig? I havent dedicated any real time to a Carolina rig in many years. What does the bite normally feel like?

Lure Identification please
I Have a Fish Arrow Swimbait that looks similar to the one you posted. The Black dots and red gills were painted on by the previous owner.

Anyone know anything about Rebel Crank R baits?
Just won an auction for 4 of these baits New in the package on Ebay. Anyone know the specs on these Cranks? Weight? Depth of Dive? Wide or narrow wobble/wiggle? How do these compare to other crankbaits like Bombers,Rapalas and Bandits?

Great Bass Fishing Advice - 10 Words or Less
A bad day fishing beats a good day at work!! So true. When im out on the water and getting skunked,I try to step back and analyze the scenario of where I am,Im in the great outdoors, and am not obligated to do well. No need to feel pressured.Just find a way to have a good time regardless of whether you catch something or not

Sufix Promix
So what is this stuff actually? Is it a Mono a FC or a combination of the 2? Is this stuff any good? I see its made by Rapala of Finland, and that makes me wonder. As of late Rapala have turned out some sub par stuff from what I have read.Like the Storm line of baits went down hill after being acquired by Rapala. And then there the Trigger X products, which I have heard arent so good. So with this Sufix Promix line being made by Rapala... Is it any good? Any first hand accounts of how it performs? The price on this stuff where I found it locally was $5 for a 400yd spool. Price seems good, but hows the quality?

Bomber Fat Free Shad baits
Ive also noticed that the rattle sound is different between the suspending models and the regular Fat Free Shad baits. Anyone else notice this? Why might this be?

The bait monkey has a hit out on him
Im always trying to beat my wife to the mailbox. Of course thats tough when im at then lake all day and she comes home around 5pm and I dont get home from the lake until 7 or 8 pm depending on the way the fish are biting. Just last night I was at the local WalMart. Theyre building a Walmart Super Center across the road. I asked one of the employees which I know,if all the inventory in the current store was gonna have to be moved from this old store to the new store. He said they are clearancing the current inventory, and the current store already has a 75% clearance on Fabrics in the crafts section, because that is the first department that will be moving into the new store. SOOOO.... This means that the Sporting goods dept will be doing a clearance as well. Baitmonkey is already whispering in my ear...Does it EVER end? I see lots of trips to Walmart between now and the 27th of October when the new store is supposed to open.

Vicious Fluorocarbon Line
Anyone use this line and like it? Picked up a spool of 10# for my crankin outfit and gonna give it a try for the first time tomorrow. Does FC really help a crank get down deeper? How much deeper?

The bait monkey has a hit out on him
Ive been purchasing baits on Ebay and some came in the mail today. My wife says "More Bait?" I just smiled and shrugged my shoulders. She said " OOOOHHHHH Thats it!!! Im gonna kill that Bait Monkey!!!" Bait Monkey be warned your days are numbered!! The thing I think is hilarious is my wife knows exactly who/what the Bait Monkey is and she knows what the initials BPS mean. Shes catching on!!

Bomber Fat Free Shad baits
As of late I have been on a buying spree of Bomber Fat Free crankbaits. I have purchased all sizes. The Fry,the Guppy, the Fingerling and lastly the largest of them all,the shad. The only size I havent bought is the Shad Jr. 2 of the Fat Free Shad cranks I have are suspending models. A similarity those 2 share is that they have fluorescent orange eyes, while the others, that arent suspending models. have more regular, natural looking eyes. Is this a orange eye color on these baits something thats specifically on the Suspending models only? Im wondering because as I scout Ebay I sometimes find a seller with a Fat Free Shad listed, but they dont mention if its a suspending model or not. Is the eye color a dead giveaway as to whether its a suspending model or not?
