How Did You Select Your Nickname on This Site?
Being a basser is a passion of mine! I wanted to make it unique so I added the year I graduated high school. I came up with it several years back on another board and have just stuck with it.

Blue Pickeral???
Hey Jake, My partner and I talked a little bit ago. His take on it was the fish could have had a deficency that causes the mucus membranes to produce a blue enzymes. He said it's rare but usually happens to walleyes. It would make an interesting pic but I wouldn't try one for a shore lunch!!! :-X

toothy critters
Well, we've seen some nice pickeral and pike, here's my contribution. A semi-decent Potomac Musky.

Spinnerbait Preference
The best deep water spinnerbait I own is a 3/4oz Ledgebuster with a single willowleaf blade.

Let's See Your PB's!
I set two PB's so far this year. The first was a 22", 5lb 12oz largemouth caught out of a small community pond. And the second was a toothy critter. This one was 45 1/8" and weighed 25lbs I caught on the Potomac.

muskie and pike picture taking
I have two ways of trying to tackle the toothy critters and protecting myself as well. I have a Rapala grip and a glove from Lindy (working on getting a net for fishing from the boat). One of the tricks is to play the fish just long enough. When I fish for the toothy critters, I'm fishing for musky. They are not the most robust fish and can be stressed out to the point that CPR won't work if played too long, especially if they are kept out of the water too long. The best way would be to net the fish, remove the hooks and then pick up the fish for a quick pic. For me, I have the most control using the Rapala grip but depending on how green the fish is, it can tear up the fish's jaw. If you have a Lindy glove, CAREFULLY pick up the fish by the gill plate staying away from the gills and cradle it with your other hand under the belly for a horizontal hold, which make the best pic in my opinion. Here's a pic of a decent musky I caught earlier this year that I wasn't able to CPR. Good luck and let us know how you do!!!

Blue Pickeral???
Hey Jake, That's one I haven't seen before for sure! My partner is more of a multi species angler than I am. I'll touch base with him tomorrow and see if he's ever seen anything like that!

PLEASE PASS THE MOJO
Here's one of the pond bass! Sorry, my other pic was too dark so I wasn't able to make it light enough.

PLEASE PASS THE MOJO
Well, I was next in line to add a little mojo to the charm. This has been a rough couple of weeks for me but I managed a little Potomac smallie mojo and a couple of pond bass. No big girls, but mojo none the less! The smallie came on a Strike King The Duece buzzbait and the largemouths came on chatterbaits. The charm is on its way to its next stop! Best of luck!!!!! Here are a few picks.

The Type of Water I usually Fish is..
I went with a medium pond since this is where I spent most of my time so far this year fishing. I do switch up and fish a couple small man-made lakes (505 acres and smaller ones) as well as a couple rivers too in MD and PA.

Pitching distance
I have to agree with bassnut1276 on the practice! The more you practice, the more comfortable you'll be and the longer you'll be able to pitch! On my good days (still need to practice more), I can pitch accurately (with minimal splash) 30-45ft. Distance can be a factor in clear water. With stained to muddy water or in very thick vegatation, you can move in closer and do more flippin than pitchin.

Missing BR.com and Fishing
Senile1, that's good to hear you're not a field tech! I've done very limited field work in the past (and wasn't real fond of it). While the pay is typically better for the field side, the only time I want to travel is if the boat is attached to the truck! ;D bshaner, being in the military you may use so of the test equipment that we manufacture. I work for JDSU (formerly Acterna, formerly TTC, the home of the T-BERD and Fireberd products).

Missing BR.com and Fishing
Its good to have you back senile1! I can relate with your job, being in the telecommunications field myself! Was a tech for 10 years, moved to the supervisor role about 3-4 years ago for our service center. One of the technicians that works for me has to go out in the field for fiber characterization from time to time. Hours are long and the time he's out in the field varies. Glad you were able to get out and do a little fishing last weekend and hopefully you can get some more in yet this year!

Fall/Winter fishing
Switch jigs up with tubes and you have my winter fishing baits! Still working on my confidence on jigs! Welcome to the boards Catt!

It's official
With the creative ideas you come up with here and your dedication to CAST, I can't think of a more qualified individual for the job! Congrats LBH and good luck on getting the position you want with UPS!!!

Major Stumpage
I had a similar problem earlier in the year using tubes. I corrected my problem by going up one hook size. If you can get away with it, that may be another option. I'd opt for RW's suggestion first though.

Fall/Winter fishing
Thanks for bumping this one Chris! This is a rough time of the year for me. I spent some time reading some of the articles to set my mind for the next few months. This post is a nice bonus to what I've read!

PLEASE PASS THE MOJO
Nice job basspro48! Let's keep loading up the mojo! Can't wait to see where it ends up next!

Minn Kota vs. MotorGuide
I chose Motorguide on the advise of my uncle. He used to tournament fish and from his experience suggested the Motorguide. I've had my 43# thrust for 7 years and haven't had any problems with mine on my 16' jon boat. I've run it all day on a 505 acre (electric only) lake I fish on the one battery. I've been consider upgrading to a 24V system and when I do, it will be a Motorguide! I have to agree with cajun1977, it's a Ford-Chevy debate, each have thier own pros and cons.

Uh....what???
Thanks for the tip LBH! LOL! I live literally 5 minutes from the Potomac. While I'm way up above DC, these findings (smallies with both sex organs) surfaced either last year or the year before around here. There are several sewage treatment plants (two I know of) that have dumped raw sewage either directly into the Potomac or into a tributary that flows in. I've also heard (I've never been able to confirm this one) that farms next to the river have lost large amounts of ferterlizer during floods which has also contributed to these genetic defects. So it comes to no surprise to me that these symptoms would eventually make its way down in the more populated area of the river. Fortuneately, the last I heard was the genetic defects seen during surveys this year were on the decline here in Washington county. Hopefully, this trends continues and spreads to other areas of the Potomac too!
