  1. Hey Mike, I fish both from the shore and my boat. My fish finder has a temp gauge but when I'm fishing from shore, I picked up a pool thermometer from Wally World. $6 for a little cheapo. It will give you a place to start and let the bass tell you what they want from there. Hope this helps!
  2. Way to go Lee! Can't wait to see the pic! ;D
  3. Was out this evening, lost focus for just a second and lost one of my top spinnerbaits (with a trailer hook on) to a submerged log! > Luckily I have a second one! What retreive? The one that's working that day! But seriously, I typically start out with a steady medium retrieve and then switch up when that doesn't produce (Will covered most of what I switch up to) but I'll also wake it too (in warmer water).
  4. Went with the largemouth here! Even though the Potomac is basically in my back yard, I really prefer chasing those green beauties!
  5. Hey Chris, This one (in the 01 color) works well for me in super clear water! http://www.basspro.com/servlet/catalog.TextId?hvarTextId=37065&hvarDept=100&hvarEvent=&hvarClassCode=6&hvarSubCode=1&hvarTarget=browse I usually don't, but I trim the skirt down on these and run it pretty fast.
  6. Hey pscarbor, What are your water temps? Spinnerbaits are my absolute favorite way to catch bass! For me, I have to have water temps, at the very least in the very high 40's (perferably 50 and above)! Any temps lower tell me to fish other lures for my style of fishing. Take some time and do what Raul said, read the articles that Glenn has provided for us (they'll help)! Another tip, pick up KVD's Proven Spinnerbait Techniques video. His video has a ton of good information as well and, IMO, will really help you! When you go fishing, just take your spinnerbaits and leave everything else at home. This will teach you to let the bass tell you what they want on that given day! Short story for you. I got to fish a few hours today, and the conditions here looked great for spinnerbaits. It took me about an hour and a half to finally figure out the right lure color, blade combination, retreive speed and cover before I finally figured out the pattern. Landed a keeper and a few dinks after that. Hope this helps!
  7. Thanks for the input Matt and welcome aboard! I have the schematics for the outboard so I'll check that out!
  8. Hey All, I bought a '75 15HP Evinrude outboard last year. When I bought it, it was hardly spitting any water out so I figured it needed a new water pump. I bought one one from an local Evinrude dealer and installed it according to the directions. I took it out last fall, after I installed the water pump, and found it's still acting the same way. Any input on what might be wrong? Any advise would be greatly appreciated!
  9. Congrats and best wishes on your new career!
  10. Yeah, Matt, I'd be disappointed with one that small too. LOL! My fishing partner and my goal for this year big bass wise is 7# here in MD!

    Welcome back bigtex!!!!
  12. Two years ago, the one in my avatar hit around 12:30PM. Last spring, I broke that around 8:00AM. Then last September, I broke that one around 8:00PM.
  13. I'm hoping to up my PB LM from last year (5lb 9oz) and finally break into the 6lb+ club. But I won't complain if she's another in the 5lb range! If gas wouldn't go so freakin high (hahahahahahahaha), I'd be making a trip or two to Briery Creek as well and be shooting for a bigger one!
  14. Behind a spinnerbaits, tubes are my next in line confidence bait and always have one rigged up! I like bulky tubes, BPS Magnum flippin tubes and Mizmo Big Boy tubes. I fish them year round (mostly t-rigged) on a 4/0 Gamakatsu EWG with the lightest weight I can get away with (my most productive weight, wind permitting, is a 3/16oz). In cold water, I'll pitch into heavy cover or structure in deeper water, slowly shake it a few times and then very slowly drag it across the bottom. Once the water warms up and I see crawfish, I'll target laydowns and mimic their movements. When the grass gets thick, I usually flip and pitch into the pockets and let it fall to the bottom on slightly slack line, if it hits the bottom, I'll shake it in place for a little bit before I move to the next pocket. If the grass is very thick and matted, I'll up the weight (up to 1/2oz) and punch it through the thickest stuff I can find, hop it a few times before moving on. I usually peg my weight, but in some situations, I won't. When I don't, I add a red bead for added sound. Sometimes, I'll add a piece of cotton to the center and add scent. Hope this helps!

    Welcome!
  16. Do some research before you invest you money in one. If it's a local, ask for references or pics of their work. The link I posted above even shows some close ups. I'd rather have that big girl swimming around able to produce and have a replica just a little off if any! Just my $.02
  17. Check this link out. They do great work IMO! http://www.basspro.com/servlet/catalog.CFPage?appID=39&option=2&template=taxid-pr.cfm#fish
  18. Avid, Depends on the amount of vegatation for me. A few of the lakes I fish have a good bit of hydrilla and in the summer, I've had to go up to 1/2oz (my partner will go heavier) at times to punch throw some of the thicker spots. If there are holes in the grass, I try to go as light as I can. In these situations, I've had my best luck with 1/8oz bullet weights. Hope this helps!
  19. I agree with Avid. The different stages (prespawn, spawn, etc) will start at different times now so you'll have to adjust.
  20. 95% of the time I use BPS Magnum Flippin tubes or Mizmo Big Boy tubes. Both are 4" and on the bulky side. I mostly T-rig them with a 4/0 EWG Gamakatsu. A few weeks back, I tried using a 3/0 EWG Gammy and did not stick any of the 4 bass I had hit. I'd say stay with the 4/0 t-rigged for the heavy cover and skin hook them! Hope this helps!
  21. I know what you mean about sneakin out! I don't have any problem taking her for bass, but if I get the itch for musky..... well, that's a tough one to try and explain why she can't go!
  22. How about this one? http://www.basspro.com/servlet/catalog.TextId?hvarTextId=52532&hvarDept=200&hvarEvent=&hvarClassCode=1&hvarSubCode=1&hvarTarget=browse I have a FishMark480 and really like it. IMO, this one should serve you well.
  23. Thanks CJ! We're quite proud of her! Surprisingly, I never pushed her towards fishing. She came up to me one day and ask me to take her. That was an awesome surprise! Wiggle Wart at 4 months? Hmmmm, wish I had thought of that one! Although, I don't think Mom would have approved! LOL!
