Mono or Braid??
I only use braid, mono is in the past for me. I use a swivel with about 15-18" leader, perfect hookups with a wrist flick for setting the hook. Try topshotting with about 60 yds of braid, if you don't like it try something else, experiment to see what you like the best.

trout as bait in virginia
There is a time and place for everything, sometimes bait is called for but IMO not for bass fishing. Using artis keeps my interest higher and my game sharper, but if one needs live bait, go4it....but I'd still say "weenie". ;D

I just stole a Loomis rod.
I had a similar experience at Sports Authority a few weeks ago. While looking for an offshore Redbone I saw one marked at $139.95 but the wrong class. Looking on a different rock I spotted my rod, with the wrong price tag, 19.97, had no guilt trip in buying it.

Rapala sure set?
Not wild about ss hooks but I don't change a hook until it needs changing, then I only use saltwater hooks even for freshwater.

new addition to tackle box, watcha think?
Roostertails are not made well but they catch fish for sure. Almost any predatory fish will hit almost any artificial lure in any body of water. We have been killing the fish in the middle of the night using silver spoons.

Best reel oil?
I use corrosion block and love it.........was recommended to me by a Shimano tech a few years ago.

do i need a leader?
Many people tie braid direct with no leader and are successful, I don't think it makes much difference, whatever you are comfortable with. I use a leader but never saw any difference in freshwater fishing using florocarbon leaders.

Zig Ziglar
The best self help advice I ever received was my father, a child of the depression. Simple..........he said " Get off your fat butt and get to work", needless to say it to a few years for that to sink in.........he was right.

Thinking of ROTC for college?
I graduated from military school in 1963, 3 years r.o.t.c. was enough for me. Went to Univ of Mich where I worked at an A & P stocking shelves on the night shift. May not sound like much these days but in 1964 $2.75 an hour was a lot of money, people were raising families on that.

What do you tell the "Hunter"
I don't care for hunting but I don't feel any hunter needs to justify why they choose to do it. Conversely I don't I feel I have to justify my actions as a an angler, if confronted a simple smile and light conversation generally buffers any situation.

Tica rods ?
A 1 yr warranty on an inexpensive rod doesn't bother me too much but in the case of the clarus getting lifetime warranty makes it a much more attractive purchase. What does bother me is that upper ends reels like a stella offer no more of a warranty than a stradic. IMO a stella or like product should come with a much better warranty, SW models are upwards of $800, for me that constitutes a lifetime warranty or at 5 years at the least. I don't know much about the Platinum service plan but appears to be just for 1 free cleaning and 1 for 1/2 off...big deal! I'm not picking on Shimano as most companies do the same thing.

Zig Ziglar
This is a common theme among many of the self help gurus and motivational speakers. I've been to many seminars, Werner Erhad ( EST ), Tony Robbins, even my child hood friend Jackie Kallen, former boxing manager of James Tony, now motivational speaker. Have read many of the books published over the years, C. Clement Stone, Norman Vincent Peale, Napoleon Hill, Og Mandino just to name a few. I found the emphasis to be more on spirituality rather the proselytization of the Christian religion, in fact in many cases the audiences were made up from people of all faiths. The benefits were incredible.

Nice fat redfish!
I bet you're right.........IMO most people are interested in fish that they can relate to and are readily available in their geographic area. Fish of "other species " can be difficult to locate, difficult to trigger strikes and give a real workout in landing them.

Need help fishing worms in the weeds
If you are going to fish with that much weigh make sure your rod can handle it. IMO 1/2 oz over the max lure weight is pushing it.

New Pfleuger Supreme XT
I have 3 supremes and they are pretty good reels. I have the 35 size which I use for light inshore saltwater fishing, it's smooth, very light in weight and holds a lot of line. That reel only has a max drag of 12# ( compared to stronger and better drags from the competion) and after about a years use the rotor is wobbly and needed repair, glad Pure Fishing just replaced the reel at no charge after warranty had expired. This reel has caught scores of snook and jacks 5-15#, too much fish for these reels in the long run, but was a lot of fun. The mg construction and bearings held up just fine. What major improvement has Pflueger made ? Probably nothing except a new look, I'd look for an older xt discounted, most likely same performance, excellent freshwater reel.

Nice fat redfish!
If a fish is legal and you're hungry gives me no problem, whatever kind of fish it is. Plenty of red fish and bass around, certainly no endangered species. I'm catching tons of fish, sadly to report no tarpon and very few snook as of late.

0% interest credit cards
Any card I have owned in the last 40 years or more has been 0% if paid in full. What a great deal, free use of money for a few weeks. I would avoid not paying in full except in cases of absolute emergency when funds are tight, that does not mean new fishing equipment. I am using that GE money thru Care Credit which is offered for medical bills. I don't know if there is an advantage to paying a credit statement in full or using care Credit for 12 months free credit, then paying off the balance in full, either way I will not pay interest so I guess it's the same. I'm having periodontal work done which takes in my case about 18 months, 5 surgeries and a few more to go.

MS 13
After watching a doc on MS a couple of years ago I was fishing the ICW in Lantana, Florida about 4 in the morning. A Lantana patrolman happen to cruise into the park where I was fishing and we struck up a conversation, I then asked about MS in the area, his reply Yep, we got them a few blocks from here..........I seldom hit that spot anymore.

What's your fishing style ?
Majority of my fishing is from shore both fresh and salt. In fresh 1 spinning rod with a lure and maybe 2 or 3 others in my pocket, generally a bucktail and a spoon. Inshore salt I wear a fanny pack with a few spoons, couple xraps, couple jigs and a top water, that's traveling heavy compared to most beach fisherman.
