  1. Economic stimulus packages. When I was back in Detroit one of the main targets were trucks along the I-94 corridor just south of the city. Not speed traps ( those too ), but weigh masters with portable scales, state and local police pulling trucks over for simple things like a missing letter or number rubbed off from the door, the list is endless. I once had a broken tail light in Hazel Park, had to go to court as this is a federal infraction. In most cases motorists get this fixed, show proof and the ticket is eliminated, I get $ 350 fine, being as I'm commercial. In 35 years of either driving myself or having trucks on the road I could not count the number of piddly tickets, they see a truck and look at dollar signs, you can't win even if you are right. They even pull you over and take a tire gauge out when they can see the tires are new, just an excuse to give a safety inspection which they will always find something wrong, maybe just being 1 flare short of the required 3 or a triangular hazard sign having a small chip in it, I had a cop tell me I didn't have enough band aids in my first aid kit, no ticket....lol. I ran bias ply as they don't squish down like radials do, so pullovers were a little less for a weight check. They know the commercial guys rather pay a few hundred dollar fine than take the time to go to court and out of state motorists can't come back to go to court.
  2. I've used them and have caught plenty of fish on them, just as many as any other spinnerbait. Walmart used sell to a jerk bait called a renegade for bass, I used them for snook and they were dynamite, especially for less than $2.00, too bad they don't sell them anymore.
  3. Best way to settle it .........mano et mano, best 2 out of 3 falls wins. I'll give 3-1 on the buck.

Only thing I ever liked about winter were the women at the ski lodge, hated skiing.

After living and working outdoors in Michigan for 60 years I'm thrilled to be down here year round.........you keep the cold, I had enough of it. BTW I did go trolling for billfish and dolphin yesterday and going again Saturday.
  6. From what I read on here most people seem to use a lighter leader. My roots are freshwater but I do as many saltwater fisherman do and use a heavier leader. My typical freshwater setup is 10 or 15# braid with 20# mono leader ( I use a swivel with about 18" ), the 20# helps to prevent lure loss when I do get hung up.

Not quite true.........almost always in the summer there is a nice offshore breeze coming in, 90- 95 degrees is actually quite comfortable on the beach, I fish beaches both early morning and late afternoon.
  8. Go see a Doctor ! My wife has been battling them well over 20 years, just had had about 4 or 5 large ones removed, popular method is rubber bands. Not nearly has painful as you may think, the bands cut the blood flow and the hemorrhoids just pop off..........it's no big deal, if that is what it is.
  9. I have been paying attention to several sources, some would have you believe that almost everyone gets scanned or patted down. Other sources report less than 2% of people being scanned or patted, your choice as what to believe. The polls I have seen are pretty close to a split on how people feel about this issue. As far as interviewing goes the Israels know how to do it, using simple questions that require simple answers, but they know how to read into it. If we interviewed here we would need a better trained staff. In Israel it is not unusual to see dark skinned people at the airport, many are not moslem but are Separhdic, there is always staff available that speak Ladino for Separdic Jews, Yiddush for eastern European Jews, Hebrew for native Sabres, and of course English and Arabic.
  10. Had it been a Jewish family they would have used chicken schmaltz instead of the bacon.......lol.
  11. Do you have a spare spool for another reel? If so just load up that empty for storage.
  12. I'm still going to fly and I don't feel in the least bit violated or deprived of my rights, I do think better methods are out there. If only 1 attack gets thwarted then the time, expense and inconvenience will be worth it. As I see it, the negativity has more to with the trend as of late with " too much government", personally I don't feel that way, but everyone has a right to their opinion.
  13. My problem is solved due largely to .ghoti's advice. I did receive a brand new spool, not a second, and spooled it up the other day, near perfection and I'm happy.
  14. A life lived in fear is a life half lived. - Anonymous You bet I'm still flying and so are my kids. Any security measure at an airport I view as a mere minor inconvenience, not as a breech of my privacy or loss of any freedom. I have been to Israel several times and planning another trip in 2011. People there are not hung up over any security measure, they welcome it with open arms. Once landed one feels safer there than being in a major U.S. city. No question about having many terrorist attacks there but the people know that's their price to live where they choose. The topic is about flying , and if one is uncomfortable in doing so, then don't! Glenn is right about Germany, my in laws were not allowed to leave Germany, in fact not until the liberation ( 1945), I won't say what they went thru but most have heard.......talk about losing freedoms.
  15. I have more trouble spooling up mono than I do braid, only a few of my outfits have mono and they are strictly for ocean drifting or trolling where casting is not an issue. I have had no problems spooling up with any kind of braid for fresh or saltwater gear, for the most part I just use masking tape without tying, even freshwater get gets no backing. As of late with my new sorons I've been using the elastic bands on their braid ready spools, seems to work pretty well.
  16. Back when I first stated using spinning gear, maybe 1950, just about all rods I can remember had the sliding handle rings on them, as I recall they worked just fine.
  17. Being in the scrap metal business none of this information is new news to me, in my operation only random converters crossed my path, but aware of most "hot" items. Airbags are another item that get stolen, I know of person that handled so many it made him millions and millions. Wire being striped from buildings has been going a long long time, some of the locals would burn the insulation off behind our building in drums, police or fire marshal would come by and chase them away and then bring the copper to sell to us, thieves stealing from thieves. Some of the really huge " crimes" are on the corporate level and fly under the radar and are never publicized, scams you just can't imagine, best I say no more.
  18. I use a floro leader offshore 20# or 20# mono with 40# leader, alberto works very nice. I was using seagur, but switched to vanish with zero complaints. I generally use a swivel and 18" mono leader but will try floro and alberto in freshwater to see if there is a difference. Some pelagic species will hit a swivel as readily as lure or bait, line to line can make the difference out there.
  19. If they don't have something in stock and it is available on the website, you can order it from customer service shipped to your door for free. The rod I wanted was being phased out and not on their website, my good fortune was due to the salesperson helping me.
  20. If anyone is interested the bluefish bite was very strong today, fished Delray Beach for a change of pace. Caught something but don't know what it was, looked like a blue runner but bigger, then I caught a blue runner and it definitely was not. little thicker profile and lighter in color.......maybe a barjack? Good fighter.
  21. I have my favorites but if I lose one I just use something else until I have a chance to go shopping, I don't get traumatized.
  22. x2 I have a stradic 4000fi, very very good I have 4 sorons, 20, 2 40's and 60, just love them and hard to beat their customer service.
  23. Braid, but I use a heavier leader 20# mono in freshwater, I lose less lures when I get hung up. Floro leaders only for certain species.
