  1. Freshwater it makes no difference to me, saltwater I much prefer both a long fore grip and rear handle.
  2. X muskie and pike fisherman, now a barracuda angler, I get cut off more times than I can remember using mono or fluro, but still use it at times ( get more strikes). I make my leaders out of 30# surlon or piano wire. I would love to try 1 of my cuda tubes on muskie sometime, bet they would work well.
  3. I wish I could eat that, I'd be in a diabetic coma.............lol
  4. I use the same basic set up for stripers as I do for snook and juvy tarpon. 4000 spinning reel on a med or mh rod, 7'6 15-20 braid . I use the heavier set up fishing in current, open water I like the lighter set up.
  5. Yesterday was gorgeous, cool in the morning, hit a school of jacks in the ICW at first light, in for 2 minutes and gone, nature of that beast. First cast caught a double on a top lure and that was it. Fished bass the later in the day and it was dead until about 4:30, then they turned on, caught a few nice ones.
  6. Very very nice. I had a collection of "pagoda tops", no 190's but I had 250sl, a couple of 280's and a 65 Porsche. My 250 was one of 50 made ( did not make it more valuable ), California Roadster came with no soft top just a removable hardtop. A soft top was installed at a later date but due to original construction the top would not totally recede into well, so I had a leather boot made. The wheels are not standard MB with the MB rim covers with logo, but MB wire wheels and knockoffs, illegal on US roads.
  7. Larry Dahlberg already did it. Something like a Curado on a flipping stick with 65# braid. That's Larry Dahlberg, certainly not your average fisherman. How many takes required to land it and how big? I've caught many tarpon on spinning gear, 4000 reel, med 8/17 rod or mh 10/20, 15 or 20# braid, but not in the 150# category, too much fish for that equipment.
  8. Bonefish & Permit on the flats.......... Xcalak, Mexico Tarpon on bass tackle ?........maybe if you're Jose Wejebe
  9. You already have.
  10. Weather was a bit rough by the ocean so I did some bass fishing. Friday and Saturday were both excellent days about 10 fish in 2 hours decent size. each day. Sunday and today out about 90 minutes each day and only caught 2 Sunday and 3 today. Fished from shore ponds and canals, all 4 outings I only I used a topwater popper, nothing else.
  11. I don't drop shot anything, but I do use a drop fly rig, which I have mentioned before on BR. Something to do different once in awhile.
  12. x2 The Lions put up a good fight today against a strong team. I think we all agree their record could easily be much better. Yes they have been terrible, but despite the rough record this year, they are showing more promise than they have in a long time. I agree, much better than the record. U of M VS Illinois, talk about strong defenses.
  13. Statistically speaking safer up there than down here. Professional pilots, air traffic controllers, meteorologists and the rest. Down here amateurs everywhere, on the roads and water. I'm not real crazy on the nickel diming of the airlines to pump up profit, I'd prefer them to raise the price and include everything the way it used to be. I will draw the line when I get charged extra for my wallet, calling it extra carry on luggage.
  14. Mirrorlure one of the better topwater baits, I like the Papa dog, but they all seem to work equally as well.
  15. The 2 soron 40 are about a year old, with 1 new one and the rest are cardinal 800 series 3-4 years old, seldom serviced and operate like new with no signs of corosion. I just had my 802 serviced and my tech, who has over 50 years of service, was impressed with the quality of the cardinal in comparison to the Shimano's, the soron replaced the cardinal. What I forgot to mention is braid used exclusively on every inshore reel I own, 15 or 20# all PP. I have gotten some wind knots with cardinals and soron, hard to remember having any with the stradic or cabo but I'm sure a few. In 4-5 months of service not one single wind knot from the Daiwa which does impress me. I bought a wide spool Johnny Morris and a wind knot result on almost every cast, took it back to BPS and put the same line on the Daiwa. I do think the reel has a lot to do with getting knots at least from my experience. My negative to the Daiwa is drag, but it is not a bad reel. Also 1 of my guys on our boat, we go offshore about once a week, fishes nothing but Shimano rods and reels. His stradic, torium and tld are falling apart and I'm not impressed with his terramer and tallus, my tallus is in my garage with no reel on it in favor of a new redbone I bought. With respect to Shimano he does not care for his reels like I do, but their rods are crap. I own 6 redbones, 4 inshore, 1 offshore boat and a light I use for freshwater LMB.
  16. If you can't afford to buy baits try catching some live bait, nightcrawlers or shiners, grass will be no problem then.
  17. Nice report. As an everyday saltwater fisherman I am totally unimpressed with Daiwa, 3000, 3500, and 4000 are same basic reel except for line capacity, all three offer a max drag of only 13.2# and weigh in over 13 oz., smooth but not the smoothest, I own one. I give the stradic 4000 pretty decent marks, 11.7 oz and max drag of 20#, very smooth but doesn't handle the salt conditions as well as some others but I do love this reel, spheros is a much better workhorse but not as smooth with a little stronger drag. Quantum Cabo.....can't say enough, built to take it with 23# drag but heavy, this one will last a lifetime and extremely popular here in Florida along with Penns. My favorite Abu soron 40, silky smooth about 11 oz with 22# drag and tough as nails, I own a few of them. Just added a soron 60 for offshore use, 15.5 oz with 30 max drag 30# braid. THIS IS THE ONE ! The Abu's are dependable.
  18. Sparky was the greatest !
  19. I use a duolock on spinnerbaits, they do get offcenter sometimes but shaking the rod tip realigns them pretty easy and fast.
  20. Fortunately I go 12 months without a break only change is the target species. Our inshore bite is slow in the winter, but sails are running offshore, Jan-March is I when I do my bass fishing and look for freshies. Only negative is none of my fishing buddies bass fish, so I'm running solo.

  23. Boca's list is not up to date. I need a line roller bearing for a stradic 4000fi, this bearing rusting out is very common in saltwater. hard to believe but Shimano does not have this bearing in stock and it's on backorder until Feb. I talked to Boca and they will match the bearing if you have the correct measurements, in my case I'm 5 minutes away from them so I just take the bearing into them for a match.
  24. I have made some nice buys on ebay and I pay attention to the shipping, it's the total price.
  25. In all but a few cases your letters, emails and phone calls are handled by staff and never read by your representative, except if you are a lobbyist, it's the same on both sides of the aisle. A normal ebb and flow of mid term election, the next one will probably be the reverse of this one. If that's true, then why am I getting phone calls from my elected officials? Maybe the local sheriff is your fishing buddy, but getting phone calls from U.S. congress people is highly doubtful unless you are a big money donor or involved in a major national story. One that comes to mind, being in Florida, is the Cuban child (Elian Gonzales) living with relatives when her mother passed and the Cuban government wanted the child back. The politicians were out in force visiting the home, but under normal circumstances I'd say don't wait by the phone.
