  1. Many fish braid on spinning and I do exclusively. My standard set up is 10 or 15# braid and 20 # mono leader. If they are hooked good I seldom lose them, but it happens.
  2. I knew 1 course was closed just north of sw 18 th real (and camino del mar), I fished it once and caught a peacock. There were no fishing signs so I never went back. It's right around the block from military canal. Parking is a problem around there.
  3. I use PP green and it only fades, never seen it come off on anything.
  4. You can drop shot with anything. Long before the age of plastics we rigged live minnows or nightcrawlers, this method was known as a "chicken rig", and still called that today for saltwater use with cut bait. Before you tie up your sinker, take a separate leader line, attach a hook then tie a swivel on the loose end. Take the eye of the swivel and put it thru the leader then attach your sinker, you now have a " trolley rig", great with live bait. Dropshotting is merely a new name for these age old techniques.
  5. Johnson weedless is my of my go to bass & peacock baits, I like it in gold. I use a hula popper for snook. What ever worked 50 years ago will work today, those bass from 1959 aren't around anymore.
  6. Gotta take that condom off and ride bareback
  7. I had to look that course up, 6144 yards with a slope of 131, that could be fun. It's a private equity course and looks like it's gated access just about everywhere, I'm a little familiar with the area. Not to say there are no gatecrashers but I would think most fisherman there are residents fishing in areas that do not interfere with golfplay.
  8. 12' is a lot of rod to handle, don't forget the longer the rod, the heavier it will be. I say 9' is good for the occasional user. Don't forget to buy or make a rod spike (rod holder), your worst enemy is getting sand in the reel.
  9. I would think this program will be "tweaked " to make a bit more manageable, even the way it's written I see no problem. If you are in the group that has to pay a portion back you have received money that you will earn interest on for a short time, providing you don't spend it. Some are complaining about a win win situation. Would it be better not to receive the money?
  10. I would fish it as I would fish any pond. I'm assuming you have access, it's private, and you would be fishing in the late Pm or evening, after the golfers have cleared out. The ranger most likely will not let you interfere with play. If I were fishing it I'd be using topwater around shoreline reeds, horny toads as well. Other than that not knowing the terrain, I'd take jerk bait hard or soft, inline spinner(roostertail), spinnerbait and crappie jigs are often real killers, that should about do it. I don't use much in the way of plastics unless I'm in lawn chair drinking Pina Coladas our of a cooler.
  11. I think Bernie knows what he's talking about. I get way more sensitivity from the braid I use and not the rod itself. I have never been confused if it's debris or even the most modest strike. It's how the rod handles the fish, not how the fish handles the rod.
  12. I would offered to give advice without being asked, very tactfully of course, as I would have with you on bass fishing, yes bass fishing is that easy. What you did when you switched from bass fishing to crappie was to upstage him and kick sand in his face. I get as much joy out of watching someone else catch a nice fish as I do catching it myself, many times even better.
  13. Two separate issues as I see it, hookset and losing a fish. Rw covered the hookset pretty well, can't go wrong with that info. Unless your a tv host, never let that fish's head out of the water, so many bass and other species are lost on the jump. If you feel it trying to surface get your rod down low.......very low, handle the fish, don't let the fish handle you.
  14. I haven't tried the eel as yet, but I would. I have yet to buy a lure of any kind that I didn't catch something on, granted some are better than others. The major mfg co spend lot's of money in research and development , not to mention all the field testing that's done. They would rather P & L the lure than take it to market if didn't produce. I'm excluding infomercials but that stuff probably works too.
  15. I shore fish 100% of the time as well and I agree RW. If you don't lose lures you're not fishing. Not only lures but a lot of line as well, always getting hung up. I don't care how much I lose, it's replaceable. I've been fishing a lot of spoons( single hook), spinner baits and I use saltwater jerk shads (D.O.A.) on jig heads. The only thing I fish weedless is a horny toad. The secret under rated weapon is the rooster tail, fewer hangups, can fish it the shallowest of water and thru the weeds, it catches fish too.
  16. A lot of people remove the trebles and replace them with single hooks( done it myself) for fish like barracuda, they don't hook up as easy, but once you got em, you own em.

5/1 http://s355.photobucket.com/albums/r455/stugoldstein/?action=view&current=SNOOK.flv my buddy got the bigger one 36"
  18. Spinning rod, why not I do it everday. I just use 15# braid instead of 10#...........no problem.
  19. It isn't ratio but inches per turn, that said just reel slower or faster, solves the problem without spending a thing. My retrieve speed always varies , even on the same cast. I never bothered to look what the ratio is on any of my reels. It isn't the bow, it's the archer.
  20. Good information.......thanks. Either you get less of a refund or will have to pay back a small sum, just make sure you are prepared next April. I'm sure your cpa or tax preparer will be up to speed by then. Doesn't sound like a big deal, but information worth knowing.
  21. Name has been changed to H1N1 flu...strong pork lobby in Washington.
  22. WTG, I know who is going to be the #1 angler in that family
  23. I use nothing but braid, freshwater too, I'd never go back to mono. I use 15# for high banked canals, and 10# for pond fishing. In the long run I think it's cheaper, have had no need to respool in 2 years.
  24. Just teasing you about the Van Staal, I wouldn't buy one either, unless I used it strictly for surf casting(can't get sand in it). No one plans on dunking a reel but it does happen and if you wade it will get wet even if it hasn't been dunked, nature of the beast. I'm using a supreme in salt (magnesium frame) which is not recommended and I always rinse, reel still operates perfect. I'm not familiar with the daiwa line up, so no comment there, but if the cabo is pricey you can't go wrong with stradic fi, it's lighter too. I'm not up on present prices. Many good opinions here but I think the key factor is use, This is only me, cabo for offshore and pier use where weight is less of a factor and protection from salt spray or stradic fi for inshore and walking. It's not the bow, it's the archer.
  25. He's right, unless it's one of YOUR family members. As for me, I'm paying close attention to what the "medical experts" are saying , not any unqualified questionable characters " AN OUNCE OF PREVENTION IS WORTH A POUND OF CURE !
