Where are all the Illinois Guys ?
Just a local ice update. Took the new rig on it's maiden voyage yesterday on the Fox Chain. I launched on Nippersink. Nippersink is completely open. Suicide Alley is open. Fox is iced over. Grass is iced over. Pistakee is about 50% covered, the main area is open but the east and west sides are still iced in. The river is open from Pistakee to the Mchenry Dam but channels are still iced over. Fished at the water treatment facility and hooked up with a large fish on a white Zip lure, probably a drum. One more bite south of there on a jig. Fished the riprap at the dam and called it a day. My sons buddies were fishing between Mchenry dam and Algonquin. 3 bites and landed 2 fish. 1 largemouth and 1 smallmouth, no size to either.

Going To Purchase A New Boat.
Congrats. Why risk electrical issues with the finders. The hardest part of installation is running the wires. With any luck, the old wires are loose in the gunwales. All you'd have to do is tape new to old and pull thru.

"god's Groceries" Fishing To Feed The Needy
In some areas deer hunters have participated in similar programs. As of late there have been problems from certain organizations trying to stop shelters from serving wild game because it hasn't been properly inspected. Beggars can't be choosers, unless you live in the U.S.

Bag And Possession Limits By State
In IL panfish can be used as bait as long as they are caught on the same body of water. It's the bait of choice for guys targeting big catfish. Aside from Lake Michigan, the trout fishery in IL exists for a couple weeks in the spring and fall when they put the stockers in some of the inland waters..

Bag And Possession Limits By State
I'm not advocating poaching. Just seems a little overkill. If I get checked for a license once every 3 or 4 years, that's alot. I looked thru IL regs and found nothing but a daily creel limit.

Bag And Possession Limits By State
Unbelievable! Can your freezer be in possession of fish someone else caught? Let's say my neighbor doesn't like fish. He gives me all the fish he catches. Can I be fined or jailed for being in possession of fish I didn't catch?

Bag And Possession Limits By State
A daily creel limit is just that. I don't know how a freezer full of fish can prevent someone from keeping fish each time they go out. I haven't been to Canada in a long time but they would limit the amount of fish you could bring back over the border and had to leave a piece of skin on the filets for I.D. purposes

Bad Fishing Etiquette- Asking What Lure Their Using
As long as you're not a bucket head, I've got nothing to hide. I've even gone so far as to give one of my super secret swimjigs(Northstar bull gill) to a guy I compete against in tourneys after he had asked me what I was using to catch my limits. He is a buddy of mine who will not, under any circumstances, reveal any of his "secret" baits. To each his own. That being said, I rarely if ever give up spots.

Lawrance Mark 4 Dsi, A Good First Fishfinder?
The 2d is nice if your verticle jigging. When set properly, you can see fish and your bait directly under the boat without moving. You'll still get depth readings with the DSI sitting still, just not the DSI return, If it were me, I'd prefer 2d with gps for my first unit. But that's just me. I ran a bare bones basic X47 off the bow of my old boat for years, with a Matrix then 798ci SI on the console. I used the X47 for temp and bottom composition readings and it did me just fine for the most part. Having a gps is really nice when you're fishing unfamiliar water and most units are pre loaded with some type of maps. Being able to set waypoints prevents you from having to go over water repeatedly looking for your spot.

Lawrance Mark 4 Dsi, A Good First Fishfinder?
The issue with the Lowrance DSI units is no 2d sonar. Now, depending on your fishing style, that may or may not matter. For a good DSI return the boat needs to be moving. Will this be on the console used for searching or on the bow with the trolling motor

Battery Location
Yes, just get yourself a battery box.

Fishfinder Repair
Are you sure it's not an electrical problem? As far as HB I sent a unit out and it spent more time in transit than in their shop. No experience with Garmin

What Is This Fish? How To Handle Fish With Teeth?
Probably farm raised in Europe. There is little to no commercial walleye fishing in the U.S. and Canada. Finding fresh walleye even up north is a rarity.

Broken Bolt
Is it a good size bolt or a small one? If it's not too tight, and it may not be, maybe a small metal rod with a dab of epoxy on the tip. Epoxy the rod to the bolt and unscrew. Need to be careful not to get epoxy in the threads.
