  1. Ardent also makes 2 reels that are for flipping/pitching only. As was already mentioned, if your fishing heavy cover or weeds, you need a rod with enough backbone to get the fish out before it gets wrapped around something. Also some of the technique specific flipping rods are rated for a heavier lure capacity. A 7' med/heavy rod may be rated for lures up to 3/4oz, but a 7'6" flipping stick may be rated for 2oz or more for the lure weight. If I'm fishing minimal cover, I will use, let's say a 1/4-3/8 bullet weight t-rigged with a worm or craw and 12lb test flouro on a 7' med heavy rod with a Revo. If there is cover involved or I'm flipping a jig, I use a flipping stick with 55lb braid and the Ardent F500 reel. Alot of guys don't like the Ardents because they cannot be used for any other techniques.
  2. Light duty for the small screen unit should be ok

  4. Last March. Anglers Choice Tournament of Champions. 196 boats with 1st prize being a 50k boat. Needless to say 129th was out of the money . I fish 50+ boat tourneys regularly.
  5. Depends if you caught it on a Mustad hook prior to Oct. 2012. I'd have that puppy dead in the freezer.
  6. Looks pretty clean. We always recommend having the motor checked out by a mechanic. See if he'll take you out for a test ride. If he won't, forget the deal. You want to make sure everything works, Livewell, bilgepump, power trim(if equipped), TM, electronics. Look at the hull for any deep gouges that may be a sign of a leak. Look at the hull for anything that looks odd. I've seen a couple welded hulls that are warped from stress. You can check the wheel bearings on the trailer by grabbing hold of the tires wit both hands and shaking them front and back checking for movement. Good luck

  10. Fuel filter and plugs are cheap insurance. You should also change the oil in the lower unit
  11. The Merc manual is specific in saying they can void warranty if break in is not followed properly. 1st hour run 4000-5400rpms changing speed every 2 minutes and the next 3 hours at same rpms changing speed every 10 minutes.
  12. It was on 6-8 CST this morning
  13. Looks like you with a little more hair
  14. Almost forgot. Jim Peterik the lead singer from Survivor (Eye of the Tiger - Rocky 3 theme song) played at a wedding I attended in the early 90's
  15. Went to high school with NHRA great Tony Schumacher. He was dating my best friend. We used to go to high school drag night at Great Lakes Drag Strip. He was running a '68 pro street Chevelle in the low 10's at the age of 17. In the early 90's I worked with Ken Utterback the lead guitarist of PG&E http://youtu.be/UiZg82R89Qc I met MMA fighter Andrei Arlovski at a Taco Bell in the suburbs of Chicago. I met legendary porn star Seka at a blues bar in Chicago when she was waaaaay past her prime. Same bar different day I met John Entwistle and Zak Starkey. Have also met Buddy Guy I met and spoke with Ike a few years ago at a local fishing show.
  16. Last week during the Classic there were rumors on another site of an elite angler unhooking a fish and putting a different bait in its mouth for a photo op
  17. There's room for 4
  18. Methinks KVD should get a restraining order against you. Just sayin'
  19. Maybe I can convince you and Dwight to take me fo a tour of Erie one of these days. You see the snow in the pics We have some cooling lakes that have opened for the season. I'm thinking of heading out sometime this week to drive around in circles for the break in period.
  20. I believe Berkley reccomends a double palomar. About the only thing I liked about the line is casting distance. I'm back to PP or flouro on the spinning gear
  21. Powerdrive is the WORST foot pedal case closed. Followed closely by the Powerdrive V2. If you're fishing open water you can get by. If you fish alot of shoreline and docks, you're going to want to upgrade to a cable steer a Terrova or a V2 with iPilot
  22. I didn't get anything. My son called me up and said "Dad. I need 3 old reels and a rod to trade in at the classic You've got all that crap in the garage so find me some". I found him what he wanted and he texted me from BPS $617 He really liked thay MGX but opted for a few Quantums. I beleive the rod trade in is still going on and he's getting another Veritas. That tax refund is going quick
  23. I stay away from buzzbaits because, for me, a musky is more likely to hit it than a bass. It's like throwing away money. Toothy critters also have a fondness for Jitterbugs. Jigs are my goto bait. I've had muskies follow but never commit. Have caught pike and big walleye on them.
  24. If it's not horrible, scrape off the old loose paint, sand it to scuff it up. Put a zinc phosphate primer on the bare spots, clean it and paint it.
