I have a '91 40hp mercury also. I dont have a leaking problem, the water pump does take at least 5-10 secs to start when I start the engine. As for your leaking problem, check the hose that water comes see if it is leaking in to the engine then spilling out on to your boat when you trim it up

I have had lots of success fishing wind blown points with spinnerbaits and lipless crankbaits especially for smallmouth. I postion the bow into the wind you will need a good batt and trolling motor to hold you worse case if you find a good spot anchor and fish it , save the battery.

Being here in New Mexico, wind is by far the worst part. It definetly determines what days I will fish here. Breezy here I can handle, windy is dangerous here, 30-40 sustained gusts to 60. Of course Murphy's law always comes into play on windy days, My outboard will decide its time to go to crap on windy days. Im sure when I move to Little Rock in June I will find a new condition that is the most irritating. When I was stationed in Ga, I would say the heat and bugs were the most irritating the wind wasnt really that big of a problem

I have a 91 Mercury 40 hp motor. I have a problem where when the motor gets warm the motor will not go any faster than about 9mph. It will start off get up to speed then drop off. I had this problem before and I changed the fuel pump diaphrams and it worked fine. I think it is that again. Is there anything else I should check/change?

I had a good trip yesterday on Santa Rosa Lake. I caught 3 all about 1lb each on a white chartreuse spinnerbait. The water temp has come up 10-15 degrees in the past 2 weeks, what a difference that has made. I would have caught more hadnt I run out of gas. Oh well all in all a good day
