New reel rubbing
I just had my new Diawa Sol spinning reel delivered. I took it out of the box and noticed it making a quite rubbing sound when the handle was cranked. Has anyone else had this issue with a new reel? I think I will take it apart and re-lube everything. Hopefully that solves this problem. Any advise would be great.

A Shoutout for NH Fishermen!!!
Jaystraw, I have every fishing show tivo'ed, cant get enough. I have an on-going list of baits that I "need" before I can go fishing in the spring. Hopefully I can save some money for a massive BPS order soon. I just keep thinking of the day when I get out on the water for the first time this spring.

Buying a boat during winter?
I bought my first boat last winter/ early spring. After doing the whole craigslist searching for a while, we asked someone at a local boat repair and maintenance place to keep an eye out for us. About a week later, he called with exactly the type of boat we were looking for. Also, he had done all of the maintenance since the boat was new, so he knew exactly what we were getting. If you know anyone who ones a boat, they could probably point you in the right direction to a good person to talk to. Good luck!

New to Fly-fishing. HELP!
I got into fly fishing about a year ago and love it. I also have a St. Croix reign and like it a lot. You are going to need backing, any Dacron will do, places like Bass Pro and Cabelas have it right near the fly lines. The setup for a fly rod is backing, fly line, leader/tippet, fly. The purpose of tippet is to lengthen your leader which gets shortened from tying on flies, etc. For bass you want 2x leader and 2x or 3x tippet. For trout I usually use 6x leader and tippet. The website below has all of the knots you will need to get setup. Some are a bit tricky but you shouldn't have too much trouble. For flies, I mostly use poppers for bass. When I first started I bought a bass popper assortment from Cabelas and was happy with it. Good luck, but be careful the fly fishing will empty you wallet if your not careful. http://www.killroys.com/knots/knots.htm

Who will win the Super Bowl?
The cards are hot... and Fitzgerald is a beast. I can see the Steelers slowing them down enough to make it a good game, but I think the Cards will win it.

need some advice about ice fishing for bass
We rig tip ups with a 1/0 hook and a shiner, but any baitfish will do. We usually fish in water anywhere from 10-15 feet, but that might vary from lake to lake. Once you drill a hole, put a big lead sinker on the hook to sound the depth of the water. Hold the line so you keep the right depth, remove the weight and put a shiner on the hook. You want the bait a few feet from the bottom, so reel about 2 feet of line onto the tip-up and set it in the hole. Put out as many of these as you have/ local regs allow. Its a pretty basic setup, but works well. We usually catch bass, pike, pickerel and even trout. Hope that helps, good luck.

crayfish imitations
I've had luck with GYCB fat baby craws. Black or their green w/ black flake color is best. I fish them texas rigged with a bullet weight if needed.

buying rods/reels on ebay?
Thanks for all the info. I found a seller with thousands of feedbacks, 99.8% positive. Emailed him and made sure it was brand new, etc. I'll have to look for more deals on ebay in the future, I saved $40, hopefully everything arrives as described.

buying rods/reels on ebay?
How many of you buy rods and reels on ebay. After looking on Cabelas, BPS and TW, I decided to check ebay out. The reels are significantly cheaper, supposedly new in box and the sellers have good ratings. Has anyone ever had a problem getting stuff on ebay, or is it a good way to save money? Thanks.

Umbagog Lake Fishing/Camping trip
I have yet to go out bass fishing in NC, because I spend most weekends fly fishing for trout. I have decided to put that on hold and try to find some bass when the weather gets a bit warmer down here. I'll post an Umbagog report with some pictures after I head up there this summer. Also, Squam lake has great fishing and the Squam Lakes Association has Islands with campsites. It is not as secluded, but is about 2 hours closer than Umbagog

Weedless Wacky rigging?
When I fish in weedy areas, or if I am having trouble getting my wacky rigged senko snagged on the bottom a lot, I use a hook with a metal weed guard. I bought a few different styles last summer, the best had a small amount of weight on the shank of the hook to get down to deeper fish. Some worked better than others, I wish I could give you the name of the ones I like but I don't remember. Good luck.

Umbagog Lake Fishing/Camping trip
I made a few trips to Umbagog last summer and it was great. It is nice to be in an area that has not been developed at all. It it truly one of my favorite lakes in NH. I'll be up there through the summer, but will be back down in NC by August. Defiantly worth the 5 hr drive from RI.

strangest things caught?
Fishing Rhino: I heard this summer that a lobster man on the cape found not one but two dead bodies floating in cape cod bay, on two separate occasions. Thats just bad luck! As for me, nothing strange freshwater, but did hook a lobster while fishing.

Mojo vs. Legend Tournament Bass
I am still undecided, but the lifetime warranty would definatly be nice to have. Another quick question: Would a 7MF or the 68MXF be a more versatile rod? The mojo 68MXF is called the wacky style rod, which is what I fish with more than half the time I am fishing. Would this rod still be able to handle other bait I throw (other plastics, some topwater, small cranks), or should I stick with the 7MF to have more versatility? I appreciate the help, who knew buying a fishing rod could be such a process!

Mojo vs. Legend Tournament Bass
I posted a few weeks ago asking about the St Croix Legend tournament spinning rod. How does that rod compare to the Mojo spinning rods. I know the LTB will obviously be a more sensitive, lighter, etc. I do not fish competitively, but do try to get out every weekend and at least 3 days after work during the summer? Basically my question is: Is the LTB worth the extra $120? Thanks for any input.

What to use for native stream trout?
Flies would be the best. I don't know about PA but down in NC nymphs like beaded prince nymphs or hares ears work well. Other than that mepps would be your best bet. Maybe try one of these if you don't fly fish: http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/links/link.jsp?id=0011718116810a&type=product&cmCat=SEARCH_all&returnPage=search-results1.jsp&Ntk=Products&QueryText=mepps+fly&sort=all&Go.y=0&_D%3AhasJS=+&N=0&Nty=1&hasJS=true&Go.x=0&_DARGS=%2Fcabelas%2Fen%2Fcommon%2Fsearch%2Fsearch-box.jsp.form23&_dyncharset=ISO-8859-1

In Line Spinners
I like mepps personally. I have a friend who swears by panther martins. Both always seem to pull weight when nothing else is producing.
