  1. How tall are you and how big are your hands? Your hands look pretty big on that fish. I think its an 8. Buy a scale bro, one that will get you ballpark is about 20$.
  2. Gar are native to most of the U.S. Bass aren't native to everywhere you fish, especially the Florida lm that get stocked so far and wide. Don't throw stuff on the bank to rot that is part of the ecosystem, you are going to do more harm than good.
  3. First of all: They do not have poor eyesight. I can also assure you that they are not slow. Try hooking into a big longnose or even better a 100# gator gar. They will make runs and jumps that make bass look like toys. There eyes reflect light similar to the way walleys do when you shine light at them. If you want to do some thing fun, get some nylon rope and a length of 50# test braided line. Tie the rope to the line and brush it out with a hair brush, then slide a 3/8 or 1/4 ounce bullet weight down this line and peg it to the rope to make a head on it. Sight fish with it.
  4. Lake Palestine has everything you could want to fish for except for strippers. Lake Tyler is a good place to go at night if you want to avoid the pwc and skier crowds. I like to fish both of them at night for catfish. Tyler state park has some real monsters in it that can be caught in the winter and spring. The rest of the year your best be there is night fishing because of the water clarity and the pressure. There is also a small lake called lake Bellwood witch is entirely ringed in cattails and has some big fish in it also. 20 miles north of tyler is Lake Hawkins, a place I like to fish alot, and then about 50 miles away is Lake Fork. Tyler pretty much puts you close to good fishing in any direction you want to go.
  5. If the white really pops off like that on the actual skin then go with red. Like the other guy said, your eyes are immediately stuck on the white skeeter logo and I found it hard to look at anything else. Ill differ from the masses and say red because it doesn't make the logo the focal point.
  6. A lot of people use hot dogs for catfish bait. May have been remains of the bait they discarded.
  7. Florida gar. Long nose have a much longer nose and a different spot pattern. Also, a 24 inch long nose would be much skinnier than that fish and would not weight but maybe a pound or 2.
  8. Would you buy any car without a test drive?
  9. Most bass hooks are not barbless. If they swallow the hook it really doesn't help much as far as damage is concerned if it is. Nobody uses barbless hooks in a tourney situation.
  10. If you caught an 8lb bullhead then you d**n near caught the world record. You should check for your state record for sure, i would bet good money you broke it.
  11. is this an aluminum or glass boat? Aluminum boats act like miniature sail boats and glass boats are heavy. Either way I would never go buy a motor that small. If its whats on your boat now and your thinking about upgrading then you should *IF* you have enough money to get at least a 55# variable speed motor, however go bigger if you can.
  12. Take the advice about the lock smith. Go get your boat, save some money and get back to fishing. Seriously. You will have it ready to go on the day you pick it up.
  13. That boat of your friends is not worth what he is asking for it. And you probably wouldn't get 3k for yours either. Keep the one you have.
  14. try something that doesn't have an offset, that may help. You are also correct in that missing the bite for a while is helping to cause this.
  15. It will work but it will be less than ideal if it does not have variable speed. Most motors in that size do not.
  16. Some of you may disagree with me on this but here is my take on it: The people in the government that made this whole thing with ethanol into law were never interested in the environment. They simply wanted to keep getting support from the big business farming community. I can assure you that whatever is slight benefits are gained by burning ethanol in vehicles is negated by the amount of emissions produced by growing the corn to be used for this. Corn is a highly demanding crop as far as nutrients and water are concerned, and therefore large amounts of fertilizer and irrigation water must be used to grow it. Also, all throughout the process of preparing the fields, to harvesting, fertilizing, etc. use large amounts of diesel fuel(another item that is subsidized for farmers). Also, tractor diesel is not required to be processed as highly as highway diesel, but you have to have a permit to buy it. Once that corn is harvested it has to be hauled somewhere to ferment and the alcohol has to be taken to a refinery to be added to your gas. Enjoy your ethanol gas. ;D
  17. Its not a big money business but it mite do ok for you as a side job.
  18. Nearly got a coon and a rubber frog I threw on the bank. Also got a large red ear on a 3/4oz spinner bait.
  19. Ok everyone, use sunscreen and insect repellent from now on because they work better than megastrike.
  20. Shout "PULL" and have your bud in the back of the boat blast it with a shotgun.
  21. One just because you caught a couple on a bug spray doused lure doesn't mean it has no negative effect. It just means fish will still bite if there is some on there. If the fish were wary, or inactive it could have enough negative effect to cause fish to not bite.
  22. Buy the aluminum john like others are saying. There much more versatile than those plastic things. You can also put a small outboard on one some time later as well as have much more space for gear and other items. For what your talking about used would not hurt you at all, it would just save you money. Even a leaky john boat is easily fixed and will float.
  23. Then you should engrave the number somewhere it won't hurt anything but its easy to find.
  24. Don't take it in until you try to polish that. You will seriously get an "Are you a moron look" from the mechanic or service man if that is really just stains like the first guy said. Its probably just stains from the water you fish, like gas&oil residue + dust. If you have any clay around that can also make some stains that don't really look like dirt. If after wiping it with soap and water and trying to polish it you still have that look then maybe you could say its something wrong with the metal, but I'm willing to bet that in 5 minutes you'll have it back to that out of the box shine.
  25. I never take mine out of the boat. Ever.
