Fishing Stumps...Advice Welcomed!
hey there, im 14 and ever since i was 10, my dads been getting me to do the same thing when we approach a stump- if the fishing is hot, burn a spinner bait by it. If the bite had been off, work it VERY slowly with a worm or jig. i like to rig the worm split-shot, because that way i am able to keep the worm in one place for a long time, and still be able to jig it up and down a bit, in hopes of triguring a bite. good luck

Lucky Craft
I personally dont like crank baits to much. But there is a time and place where a crank is a good, productive way to go. I disagree with spending $15+ on a single crank bait. There is many other cranks out there that are cheap ($10 or less), and just as productive if not even better. I favour a Heddon Big-O, for shallow water fishing. I have caught many many smallies and largies on it, and its a cheap bait to. But all in all its personal preference, and whether or not your willing to spend $15+. Good Luck.

Spinning outfit vs baitcast outfit for smallies
I prefer a baitcast rod over a spincast rod ANY DAY. Well, when i can get away with it, meaning if the lure is to light i cant use it on a baitcaster and i'll switch to a spincast. About the price thing, just go to garage sales, ebay, stuff like that, to purchase cheaper/used rods. I bought 4 used bait cast rods all in great condition for 100$. If money's a problem, just buy used tackle.

Rice Lake, Ontario- My fishing trip
Hey there. I'm 14 and my dad and I went fishing last year on Rice Lake for the 1st time. We launched off at the west end of the lake, went to about the middle and drifted back fishing the shorelines. We were out for a good 8 hours. We had caught 5 decent bass, 2-3 pounds each, all on a 10 inch worm. It was over cast the whole day with some rain in the morning. Then 3:00 came around. The sun came out, I threw on a spinner-bait and started nailin bass. I caught 4 bass within 10 minutes. One being a 4.6 pound smallie, which is my biggest bass to date. My dad had the same luck to. So we drifted along the shore for another hour or so until we were 100 yards from where we launched. We were still throwin a spinner bait, using 20 pound test flurocarbon, on bait cast out fits. My dad throws his spinner bait 10 feet past this pile of slop..reels it in and right next to the slop BAM. Musky. My dads biggest, he could tell it was his biggest by far, from when it jumped completely out of the water. So he decides to hand the rod to me. im like dad :-/ what do i do im gonna lose this fish. he just laughed at me and said oh well now your gonna know how a musky fights. of course this thing is reefing out line, so, afraid of killing this beautiful fish, we had no choice but to tighten the drag in hopes of getting it in. This is ten minutes in to the fight and we have it up to the boat, and you get that first whiff of musky. To me it smells like blood and steel. Its terrible. My dad reaches in, grabs it by the gills and pulls up this monster musky- 51 inches. I was shaking because i was so excited, but then my dad takes out the spinner bait, (which was just destroyed) and says "ok Dylan, are you ready to release it?" I just laughed and said whatever dad, but he was serious, so i had to gill this musky, and put it back in, my arm was already dead because of the fight this fish gave off, but it was a relatively quick release. she got in the water , was there for about 10 seconds, and took off from my hand. Thats my fishing story. 8-) P.S. Always carry a camera, because of course we didnt have one

Fishing in the rain?
absolutely go fishing in the rain. it should never make you consider not fishing (unless theres lightening) darker colours in any lure work. dark 10 inch worms and topwater baits such as a zaraspook (my favourite) are dynamite. BUT- MAKE SURE you have a spinner bait ready to go, any point in that day where the sun comes out is the time for a spinner bait. i prefer a shad coloured willow leaf/colorado blade combo. just remember though, darker colours work best

Use a spinnerbait trailer or not?
i personally have tonnes of success with a shad coloured booyah spinnerbait. i will choose one without a trailor earlier in the day when the bite is on a little more, but when the bite dies down i will switch to a spinner bait with some sort of trailor- i love to put a red feather on it, and i always have a trailor hook on there to. hope this helps
