help with dedicated pitch/flip set up
I use a Chronarch 101bvp reel for flip/pitchin. 55lb braid, no brakes, and spool tension is non existent.. As for the rod, I prefer a longer rod, I use either a 7'6", or a 8' depending on the lure, and what the junk I'm throwing into. It's all personal preference. I don't have experience with either rod, so I can't recommend either of them.

Carolina Rig Question(s)
I've fished c rigs with 6# fluro, ect..unless there's a bunch of junk on the bottom, you don't need anything more than what you have. I see what your saying, re: the fluro already being on the reel..go fishing then.. 8-)

Whats your take on "slowing down"?
One example would be, if you usually slowroll a splitshot worm, which I do allot, I will slow down to where, I'll cast out, let the bait sit for 30 secs, or more, then I'll give it a couple of twitches, reel in for about a foot or two, then stop, do a couple of twitches, and repeat..same with a spinnerbait, instead of a med retrieve, I'll slowroll it. this applies to all baits.

Carolina Rig Question(s)
Why use 10lb Fluro, and then use a 8lb mono leader..? The 8lb is o.k., but the fluro should be on the end, i.e. the leader. You can use braid, not necessary though, in fact if there are any rocks on the bottom, stay away from braid.

quick braid question
Re: braid digging in, really depends on the brand..I also would go 50 or more..cost isn't that much more, and the heavier can double as a flipping rig..

How many use brakes?
Chronarch..none (mostly for flippin, and pitchin) Castaic..2 on Curado 301E (swimbait reel) 2 on Spool tension on the Castaic, and Chronarch is set to almost nada..

Braid - Tell me the pros and cons - Could switch from Yo-Zuri
I'll have to cast a vote (pun intended) for Diawa Samuri braid, very limp, and has a small diameter compared to some others. I use a uni to uni knot to tie on leaders.

Do I really need a big reel for small swimbaits?
I have to agree with Speed..the 300 series is hard to beat..

Do I really need a big reel for small swimbaits?
Again, it also depends on the baits your throwing, i.e., a Mattlure's hard gill doesn't fly as far as a 8" punker, there for you can get by with a smaller line capacity, with baits that are areo dynamic, and fly pretty far, then you might want a reel with more line..Lot's of good reels to choose from.
