  1. The rods are probably Fenwick Techna AV, or HMG, with the Aramid Veil technology.. From the Fenwick website.. Probably AVS
  2. I guess we learned that we don't leave expensive tackle sitting on a porch for limb rats to chew on...I would contact a local tackle shop first, and, ask who they know of doing rod repair in your area. If none are known then try this list... ============================ Bedrock Custom Rods/Keith Burnette Custom Rod Building bassfool@verizon.net PO Box 452 Bedford , VA , 24523 Phone: 540-871-0344 ========== Island Rod Works/Dwayne Rye Custom Rod Design, Rod Repair & Restoration darye812@cox.net 3861 Main St. Chincoteague , VA , 23336 Phone: 757-672-2515 =========== J&B Rods Custom Rod Building, Rod Repair jbrods@exis.net 2100 Marina Shores Dr., STE 114 Virginia Beach , VA , 23451 Phone: 757-496-2206 Fax: 757-496-3452 www.amazingcustomfishingrods.com ============ Miller Custom Rods Rod Repair, Custom Rod Building info@millercustomrods.com 12010 Governors Court Woodbridge , VA , 22192 www.millercustomrods.com Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!!
  3. Contact your local tackle shop and ask who in your area is doing rod repair they should know someone. Then take it to them and find out if it is even worth the repair cost. Even if it can be repaired it won't be the same rod. Other than that purchase a new one, and keep this one out of the bike spokes.. Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!
  4. As a rod builder building exclusively on St Croix® blanks. Yes I do. I don't think that your going to get the SC3 graphite and the ART & IPC technology for nothing. That and I don't think that they are cannibalizing anything in the upper lines. The too will go up in price with the split grips, none of these changes are going to leave the MSRP the same for any of the lines. The only reason they were able to keep the Premiere® price points down when they revamped them is that they switched over to the Batson Ent. line of components for them when the Triumph line came out. The Avid series is actually the beginning point for Fuji® components on their SC3 and upper end lines... One thing you will notice is that all of the upper end rods with the new split grips, the grips will all be one size. Meaning if you have small hands they might fit just right for you, but if you have large hands your left wanting more grip at the back of the seat. They may have finally copied the custom builders way of building but they cannot take the time to turn grips that will properly fit each angler. Tight Lines!!!!
  5. Talked with St.Croix, and my blank distributor. No one seems to know when the new avid will hit stores, I would assume by the 08 season. The one thing that bringing the Avid blank up to a new standard with the ART and IPC® technology, it is definitely going to raise the MSRP up a couple of notches. But as a rod builder I can hardly wait to see the new blank. Tight Lines!!!
  6. jsb1969, While this is a good reel (mostly for freshwater).. I would look for a BC reel with CRBB = Super Corrosion Resistant Ball Bearings. Mainly because of the salty environment your fishing in. You might try looking into the Daiwa Coastal Inshore, it has a 5 CRBB system. I would recommend the 6' length. But I would worry about over loading the tip of that rod with a 2oz weight plus live bait. Might even look into a 6' heavy fast tip rod for working from the bridge.. You need a lefty (left hand crank) reel, most all of the manufacturers today offer different series reels in LH, your looking for either the 01, or LH designation on the reels model number.Just my .02¢ OH!!!! By The Way Welcome To The Forum!!! Tight Lines!!!!
  7. Like Avid said Gooooo Reeeeeaaal Slooooow...
  8. Yeah, like flechero said....Gooooo Slooooow! You can't replace any if you take to much off. Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!!
  9. The_Muddy_Man, Here's why....Premier Rods Components I can guaranty the Premier Blank built by a custom builder would be just as good as the Avid rods in the racks...Especially if they are building with Fuji guides JMPO Tight Lines All!!!
  10. First off as a custom builder, I would say take or send it back to the original builder and have the modification done by him/them. If you bought the rod second hand or the original builder isn't any longer available, then have it done locally it will save you a ton in shipping. Here the info on a local builder in your state... Oh almost forgot yes it can be taken off and a new grip and seat installed. Tight Lines!!!!
  11. I don't build with anything other than Fuji® But here is the direct link to the PacBay Guides.. Tight Lines!!!
  12. No matter what brand your after....Go back and look at them again only this time take the reel you intend to use on the rod and see how the rod/reel combo fits and feels in your hand..That's the best way!!!! Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!!
  13. Here ya go....... ROD BALANCING LEAD WEIGHT KITS Tight Wraps!!!
  14. Learn How To Build one you will see how...The last point I will make here.... Many of the rod builders on the RBO site have had a ton of threads on the subject.. Check one of them out here... custom rod? Oh BTW someone tell G-Blanks, and Kistler they aren't custom, as used in their labels Tight Lines All!!!
  15. The_Muddy_Man, Do you consider the rod Ronnie wrapped for you a CUSTOM rod? Did you have the input into the rod you describe you need to qualify as a custom rod or was it a surprise gift?
  16. flechero, It's been so long since I have looked at anything PacBay, that I forgot to check PacBay for those guides..Your probably right. Yeah I hope that someone walks in and says build that for me, and that one for me, then I can call them custom.. :)
  17. Brokejew I have never heard of them, they could be Batson ProductsFuji's guides are the Titanium Frame w/SiC Ring (Silicon Carbide). I am always building, I have a couple of new blanks (3C70MHF and a 3C68MXF) that i am building next.. Tight Lines!!!
  18. Cephkiller, This is correct in the 3 definitions he has listed, with about 10 more...My rods that are up on-line for sale are listed as Custom Crafted. I don't use anything preformed (I turn all of my grips etc) or I use construction practices (each blank spined, forhan locking wraps etc) that you wouldn't find in production rods. The art work is definitely custom. The spiral wrapping and guide spacing setups (from static flex testing) is also custom not found on production rods. Each of the rods has been built from my own spec sheets, that I have built a library on, from custom (built for tournament anglers) rods I have built over the last 15 years of building. 19. Recent reading..... Acadia Thread
  20. Because he is a designer and not the manufacturer of the rods or the marketers. I agree 100%.... Just because a designer has gotten 5 best of show awards from ICAST doesn't mean the rod/s fishes worth a crap, (remember it is a show, good looking show displays, and shinny never before used rods on display). IMPO when the rod is put to the test on different waters over a period of time, has won some tourneys, and has actually been accepted by the angling community, then I would say yes maybe this rod would hold up and is worth the money asked. Also IMPO just because TT has written it up, and given their so called approval, doesn't make it worth anything either. Anyone purchasing one now is just purchasing a one of a kind rod not a proven fish catching tool.. Just my .02¢ Tight Lines All!!!

If you are the rod builder... Service & Warranty Or Call and ask Phone: 715-762-3226 or 1-800-826-7042 If your not, I would take it to the rod builder... Good Luck & Tight Wraps!!!!
  22. Building up a TBC710HM Magnum Cranker for a custom customer now. I have been building on St.Croix blanks exclusively for 5 years now. Each year they get better and better. The Avids® for 08 will be using the IPC® (Integrated Poly Curve® Technology), and, ART (Advanced Reinforcing Technology). This was only found in the 4C and above blanks. What this means is crisper tapers and better reinforcement for the 3C Avid rods. Not to get to far of base the customer service and warranties have always been superior. Great rods , Great Company!!!! Bountiful_Waters, enjoy that new rod!!!! Tight lines!!!
  23. WOW!!!!!!!!! Great job Glenn! Also kudos to the mods that kept me informed. This site is quick now, each page just snaps.... Tight Lines All!!!!!
  24. Welcome To The Fourm!!! mdowns63, If you have the ability to hold each of the rods you have listed. I would take my reel and mount it on each of the rods no matter what brand, to see how the combo feels and balances in your hand. Especially if I'm using it for plastics and jigs.Just my .02¢ Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!
  25. Read this quote on the Rodbuilding.org forum this morning about the Tackletour article.. Seems most of what has finally started to trickle down to hit the ICAST shows, has definitely come from the work tables and shops of some of the best custom builders we have and there articles that are headlined in the magazine. Now just starting to show up in the really higher end rods from many of the manufacturers... All except for rods made from wabbit food... ;D Tight Lines!!!!
