The jig was probably a bad choice in this situation. Well, obviously it was, because you didn't catch fish, and the guys power fishing did. 60 degree water is not even close to winter water. At 60, the fish are just getting started with there fall food fest. That trap bite is gonna stay hot until the low 50's to mid 40's. Once that happens, then the jig really excels. I'm not saying the jig won't work now, but a fast moving bait like a Spro Aruku Shad or Spinnerbait is gonna mop up in most situations. Good luck man

I would fish exactly the same as you have been. As the water cools, the fish will feed heavily, and then that will slow. When they stop hitting the fast moving baits, tie on a jig and pig and a dropshot and work them extremely slow. Even in the coldest conditions, you can find fish deep or shallow. Good luck!

Snapper, the first cold front of the fall usually shuts the fish down. Most fish will suspend and be inactive so don't even try for them. The fish that don't suspend will probably get nice and tight to cover. Try fishing a straight tailed worm like the *** Finesse version or a small plastic craw texas rigged with a light weight. Work it super slow, and when you feel it bump some cover, dead stick it. This should catch you a few. Good luck man and ignore all the stupid posts knocking your fish. I can only imagine what it would be like dragging up a 15lber. To bad you didn't have a camera, but I'm sure it will always be solidified in your mind

Take that Spro frog and slash the legs up till there about 1" long. Put on some heavy braid and throw that thing at everything that looks good. Walk it slowly, experimenting with different pauses and cadences, and hold on. When they hit, wait until you can feel the fish, then cross his eyes! Good luck.

Oy. West Point. That's a tough lake. There are some giants in there, but it can be hard. Well no.....it's always hard. The best thing to do is just fish like you would on any lake in fall and hope you find a good population of fish. Fish backs of pockets and creeks with crankbaits or lipless crankbaits. I haven't got to throw the 4" Tru-Tungsten, but I have a few of the Spro shads. They are so nasty in the water. I've caught a few with them, but I haven't really given them much time other than showing others how they swim. As the fall bite gets into full swing, this bait is really gonna produce.

The Zoom Trick Worm along with any other straight tail worm like *** Finesse Worm or Tru-Tungsten weighted Stingers all kick tail! Straight tailed worms are pretty much all I throw when I'm slinging plastics. My favorite colors are the natural ones like watermelon, green pumpkin, or black. The colors you have will work year round, but are better suited for the spawn to trigger reaction strikes from bedding bass and also to remain visible so you can see when the fish strikes it. As far as rigging goes, they work well with all methods. I prefer to use it on a jighead and weightless, but I've also caught fish with it on a carolina rig and drop shot. Hope this helps you out a bit!

Munkin, your missing out on some BIG fish if all your doing is fishing shallow. Sure, there are some big fish that move up, but there are big girls that stay deep all year other than to spawn. Continue fishing your summer big fish spots, and I think you'll be surprised.

Your dead on man. I'm not completely against it, but I think it would be a good idea if they started doing it like the Elite series with no nets. Your spot on about it taking some of the skill from it. Alot of fish are lost right at the boat. Nets aren't all that good. Tin has a good story about "Net jobs gone horribly wrong" ;D

Get the Reaction Innovations Screwed Up Bullet. It's a clear screw in piece that goes into the head of any soft plastic and makes it super weedless. Get you a *** Ripper worm or Tapertail worm and go to town on those fish

Changing your color may work, but I would probably try to change the retrieve speed. When fish aren't completely commiting to your bait, it means your on the right track, but something is not quite right. Changing your retreive speed can sometimes work. Also, try walking the frog rather than bobbing it straight, or if your walking it, try bobbing it. Another thing to try with frogs is trim the legs. Alot of times a frog with legs to long will make it so fish that aren't commiting completely will hit the long legs rather than the head. That's not a good thing. As far as bad hookups, the biggest thing is waiting. If the fish are committed to to the frog, then you should land most of them. The Spro Bronzeye is the softest frog on the market and compresses perfectly every time. Most people think frog hook ups are bad, but its really just because it's hard to find fish that actually eat the bait rather than try to kill it. Try braid to. It helps alot. So anyway, change color, retrieve, cadence, and trim up those legs. Hopefully that will work for you. Goodluck dude!

You have a good point, but you don't see smallies come unbuttoned as much when they jump, even though they jump more often. Big largemouth head shake and it makes the hole where the hook point entered get bigger, making the hook just slide out. When the smallie jumps, there's not much head shake. Hope I worded that right.

I try to stay away form schooling fish in tournaments, but I love chasing them around when I'm fun fishing. When the fish are schooling, I have 2 baits tied on. 1. Lipless crankbaits 2. Wacky rigged senkos I throw the rat-l-trap to pick apart the high part of the water column where the smaller fish are feeding, then when I can't get anymore bites on it, I toss in the wacky rigged senko to imitate an injured shad from the schooling activity for the bigger, and WAY more effective feeding bigger bass below the school.

2 major things stick out in my mind that I have improved on this year. 1. Learning the spinnerbait. I still don't throw it often, but it won me some serious cash this year. 2. Learning to make "gut" decisions. Although there is no fool proof way to learn which choice is right, I really got good at relying on my own opinion rather than on others. There is nothing wrong with taking advice, but when it comes down to it, there is no one who is on the water who knows what you should do more than yourself.

Living in Georgia, I've got to see some of the most venomous/fascinating spiders. I've been bit quite a few times playing paintball in the woods by Wolf Spiders. There the ones that get massive and look real similar to Tarantulas. They hang out in thick brush and trees. I got bit alot, and each time, it would swell up, get a small pimple like blister over each bite mark, and when I would press on it, it would feel like my bone was breaking. No fun. My best friends dad used to work as a landscaper, and he has been bit by the Brown Recluse and the Black Widow. I haven't seen a ton of Brown Recluse, because they are a bit more difficult to identify because they look like a common spider, but I have seen a TON of Black Widows. My mom whipped my tail more than once because I came home with one trapped in a cup. I can find them now whenever I feel like it. They live in pretty obvious places. They are absolutely gorgeous spiders and there webs look so cool. They are the perfect killing machine. Sorry to hear you got bit Mike. It's a cool story though!
