When to call it quits...?
I never call it quits completely but I do take each day as it comes. If I feel like I can handle the cold or it is a warmer day I may go fishing. Other times, I don't want to deal with the cold and I stay at home. When it is below 30 degrees at the warmest time in the day I rarely go, but there are occasions. When highs are in the forties I'll still fish, but usually later in the day. It all depends on you and what you want to deal with, and, as someone has already stated, if you are still having fun.

power of stars
Stars mean nothing in terms of fishing knowledge or skill. Case in point is Tom_Redington, a guide on Lake Fork who is a member here. He doesn't post often but he can slay the bass. We have other guys who have been here for years who don't post a lot but are very good anglers. Randall and George Welcome come to mind. These guys may have the maximum number of stars now but that is only because of their longevity, not because they post a lot. I have five stars and I would only consider myself an average angler. Lack of time to be on the water makes a big difference in skill levels. Quite a few guys that are on the water a lot probably aren't posting that often.

Anybody here had a vasectomy?
You can't back out, Dude. The surgery for a woman to have her tubes tied or her uturus removed is much more painful. If you love your woman you have to do it. I had mine in 1989. Now, they make tiny holes in the scrotum. Back then they made about a quarter to a half inch cut on each side. I don't remember the statistics from that time period but something like 3 - 5 percent of guys had issues, usually because they weren't careful. I was careful but I was still one of the guys who had tremendous swelling. I couldn't wear a jock strap because of the swelling so I tried wearing loose shorts and that hurt like hell. I had to walk around with my ankles a couple of feet apart for about a week. Truthfully, I've had things that have hurt much worse. I think it's just the fear of getting an infection in that area that instills fear in the hearts of men.

Winter time bass fishing
Thanks for the timely post, Catt! It's time to start thinking about Winter strategies.

when is fall mode over
As Roger states, the bite usually changes after the fall turnover. The water has mixed and the fish can now move to deeper waters below the former thermocline. In my area I usually find the turnover occurs when the water temperature is in the 50 - 55 degree range, depending on the lake.
