Some Saturday Fun
Nice fish, Mike! Is that the Little Platte ramp behind you? All of the really good fish I have caught at Smithville the last couple of years, have been on the main lake, in coves off of the main lake like the one you are in, or the lower end of Camp Branch which I consider to be main lake as well. You should go back out there, Blue, as you're a much better stick than I. You may not catch many fish but there's a decent chance of catching a 4 - 6 lb'er, and a few that are larger. There are some healthy fish in Smithville. Of course with the lakes down south and west of the city where you seem to do really well, your odds may be better there than to drive all the way to Smithville.

New Powell Rods
That would be a nice segment for Powell, in my opinion. Is there any other evidence you have for this statement, or is this a prophecy from the rod god? I bought a number of Powell Maxes in 2006 - 2008 and they were good solid rods. I also bought a Powell TiMax 734 HCF in the first 6 months after it came out. It compared very well in sensitivity and use to the G.Loomis Mag Bass MBR 844C GLX, of which I have three. That model of Mag Bass rod retails for $390 so, with respect to quality, I don't think the rod was overpriced. However, since Powell has tended to serve the mid-range price segment for rods over the last few years I think the typical Powell customer perceived the rod as overpriced. I don't think they did a good job of marketing this rod to those who would be willing to pay for it.

Siebert Jigs Colors
I buy Mike's jigs in mainly three colors with a couple of variations. I use combinations 2 and 3 the most. To simplify my colors revolve around green pumpkin, blue-black, and brown. Green pumpkin head and skirt (Used with green pumpkin and summer craw RageTail craws) Green pumpkin head and grasshopper skirt (Used with same as number 1) Blue-black head and skirt (Used with blue-black and okeechobee craw RageTail craws) Brown head and PBJ skirt (Used with dirty craw, amber green, and occasionally falcon lake RageTail craws) Brown head and pumpkin gold orange skirt (Used with same as number 4)

"winter" Weather
Surface temperature doesn't necessarily indicate the temperature where bass live. However, after the fall turnover, temperatures in the water column should be similar throughout and surface water temperature will give you a good ball park figure to determine what seasonal patterns to start with. A large inflow from a heavy rain will alter this dynamic in specific creeks and lake arms that receive the rain.

"winter" Weather
Your favorite lake, Stockton, had a surface temperature of 49 according to last week's report that I read. I don't know your exact location, but the fish in Stockton shouldn't be too lethargic just yet. That would be a mid-Fall bite north of Kansas City because our larger waters tend to go down to around the mid 30s at their coldest in a warm winter to hard water in a regular winter.

Sentenced
the reel ess stated: K_Mac stated: As my first sentence indicated, I understand the desire to carry a weapon. I did not say that one should not carry a weapon if he or she chooses. Relax, but be alert. Avoid what you think could turn out to be a situation of conflict. Carry if you choose. The point is that too much fear can lead to incorrect, and sometimes deadly decisions. I think K_Mac stated it very well in his last paragraph.

Sentenced
While I understand the desire to carry a sidearm for protection, keep in mind that you are probably more likely to be killed driving to the lake than you are by some deranged killer at the ramp. I typically research the statistics before I make such a statement, but something like this happens so rarely I am finding nothing on it in my cursory search so far. I just have a gut feeling that driving on the roads results in more deaths per the number of drivers than deaths per number of anglers at boat ramps.

Sentenced
I agree. There are times when people have been convicted on circumstantial evidence or evidence that wasn't solid, as exemplified by how many people have been eventually freed from unjust sentences by the Innocence Project. More than 300 have been exonerated after conviction by DNA analysis resulting from this organizaion's efforts. (This is a sad commentary on our justice system as well.) However, when the evidence is absolute, there is no doubt who the killer is, and the murder was intentional, that person should never see the light of day again.

San Francisco Newspaper Quote
I can't find this letter on snopes or any fact check sites so far, but it appears to have originally hit the Internet in 2010 - 2011. Items like this are typically "created" to smear certain groups. I think this one is an attempt to paint anti-hunters as idiots, especially with the tie to San Francisco which many of a particular persuasion view as the home of nut jobs. I am a hunter, but if this is just a creation it only serves to paint the other side as idiots, and does not educate anyone on the facts.

What In The Hell Is This
That could do some damage to an outboard prop.
-
Why Did This Work
Humankind tends to struggle with uncertainty and we will often believe false or contradictory information just to avoid the feeling of not knowing. There are some things we aren't capable of knowing and the mystery of why a bass does what it does can sometimes be one of those things. Embrace the uncertainty.

What In The Hell Is This
I thought the OP was joking, but reading his other posts in this thread, maybe that is incorrect. It is absolutely not a grinnel, a sturgeon, or an alligator gar as none of those fish look like this. I am quite certain this an inanimate object. You said it rained 4 inches in the last 36 hours. Is this near a playground or some other area that became submerged from the heavy rain? On another note, I took the following picture on a lake near my house. We were all terrified and I will never fish that lake again.
