  1. Are rods and reels getting too light? I understand lighter will drain you less fishing all day and aid with sensitivity. But, it seems the super light weight stuff just does not have that "ideal," casting weight (not sure if I expressed that correctly). I had a preimer at one point, great reel, but when I cast a lure it was all rod weight and did not seem to have that inertia at the handle of the rod as an anchor point. (Sorry, I went to engineering school).
  2. one other thing, I like to use a Rapala knot when fishing cranks. I think it frees up the head of the crankbait to "wander," a little more and look better. But, dont tell Sam or Hookingem, I have already shown them enough of my secrets fishing with them. I personally use 12# line, but copoly. Suffix mono is prett good stuff as well!
  3. you might want to also load up on flat cranks for fall and cold water fishing. The BPS series or Rapala DT series seem to do pretty well around here. But, be careful the powers of bait monkey are dangerous when buying cranks...........so many options.
  4. Happens to all of us. You should see the combination of sneezing and casting at the same time!
  5. I usually cast at a 3/4 angle and as far as a weight goes not sure. I prefer the senko to be unweighted, but there are times when you need to get it down faster then the unweighted free fall.
  6. I am using a 6'10" medium spin with 8# line. Casts pretty well.
  7. Very Nice Smallie!!! Well done!
  8. Yeah, I usually do better around my waters on Junebug and black/blue Senkos, but no color pattern like that for the 3" ones.
  9. Those are some high $$ reels Hayden! (I went up to see AJ and Bryan today @ TE, AJ ended up talking me into some Rage Tails.)
  10. Welcome Tommy! Glad you joined the Forums!
  11. Barron, How did you do on your trip?
  12. I agree, I love my Curdaos, but I got them below list values and I would not pay $199 for my 50E. But, I also invoke a personal rule in order to prevent spending $$ on fishing supplies from getting out of hand. I do not buy anything more then $200 rod or reel. If I cant find good quality reel @ $200 or below, there's a problem. I want to try out that Zillion Hayden, but probably not being buying one. Diawa has been around for a long time so, I know there good stuff. I have never heard anyone say anything bad about them.
  13. What colors do well for the 3" Senko for smallies?
  14. Powell Endurance 723 w/ Curado 50E incredible nothing else needed IMO.
  15. I am really glad I picked up a close out 200E7 now! It just does not seem the progressed any reel. Almost seems like they are content with their line up now.
  16. Sounds fine, mine is just sitting here. In fact, I am looking at it right now. Light use on her. It was my "test," low-profile baitcasting reel for a decent price. But, as you mentioned it can cast a mile. Give me a 1/2 Zara Spook and we are talking next county for a landing pad.
  17. I have one of those reels as well. Not bad for what I paid for it, I caught a lot of bass on that thing. Are you looking for parts for it?
  18. Brandon, you might try using a 6'-6" to 7' medium spin rod/reel combination with the 8#. Also, to be honest I recently started fishing with soft plastics (Senkos specifically) and found I was fishing the lure too fast. As other people mentioned maybe slow down some. Well, hope you figure it out and post pictures if/when you do. Best of luck! Wdy
  19. (Facebook like thumbs up) AJ, I stuck a 2# over at Southlake this morning. Also, you should also look to fish the New River! Great river to fish! When are you leaving for Radford? Sam, me, you, and Hayden need to head out fishing before you take off.
  20. Brandon, welcome to the forum first off! I use to fish the New River as well (attended VT), what a great river! I read/skimmed through all the posts and read the one about the line weights you were using. You might want to try or ask the people you are talking with what pound test line they are using. Twelve might be a tick heavy, maybe try an 8# copoly like Yo-Zuri or P-line flourclear. I fish the James river in Richmond and I use the June Bug and now black/blue Senkos and do pretty well (4" length) so, I think you have the right colors going. Maybe, down size a little, those smallies are sneaky little fish! Best of luck!
  21. Good greif! I got one about 4 weeks about @ $130 and thought that was a steal! How is Shimano going to sell any reels in the new line up with all these Curados going cheap? Oh-well
  22. I went out and tried C-rigging for a little last night and nothing. The lake I was fishing at was covered in scum. So, the weight grabbed everything, the worm caught stuff up by the eye of the hook. I'll try again soon. Thanks for all the input everyone!
