  1. great catch Mrs.!!!!
  2. Any idea on cost? I am new the the Rage Tails. "My name is Woody, and I am starting an addiction to Rage Tails." LOL!!
  3. I would watch the gauge of the hook. I love Owner hooks, but the hook is a thicker gauge then the Gammy EWGs I use for Senko fishing. Because of that, I notice a little less "float," if you will with my 5" senkos when I twitch them. Also, I use 5/0 for 5" senkos Texpose. Good luck!
  4. I think is a question of feel for the reel on the rod that comes into play. Your logic is sound, but you dont really need to have 10#line to catch a 10# bass. The math works out, but knowing how to fight a bigger fish is essential. That comes with trial and error, everyone loses big bass. There are lines out there that are stronger then there rating. For example Yo-Zuri lines (see link below, I might be off on this and I am sure someone else will make the correction for me), but the 8# line has an average break strength of 12#. (I dont understand it, but I have used the line and it is VERY strong!) As J Francho showed in his pictures, it is possible to catch big fish on light tackle. My game plan when fishing lighter lines for big fish is have the drag on the reel set kind of tight (judgement will tell you that) and when I hook a big fish, I immediately loosen the drag about a 1/4-1/2 turn. That way I still have good pressure on him, but he can run and not break off. Another thing, this will probably be personal preference, if I got a big fish on with light line and he makes a run I lower the rod to about 10 o'clock. That way the fish is pulling against the resistance of the drag and not rod and drag put together (say rod positioned at 11 oclock). (But, everyone is different on how they fight a fish.) Here is the Yo-Zuri link, (Hydrid line) http://www.yo-zuri.com/ Make this fun, see what feels good on the rod, trust your judgement and catch some fish. Wdy
  5. Yeah, J Francho I hear you, but I have jacked up some smallies up with treble hook lures so.....I tend to shy away from those types of lures.
  6. J Francho, I AM COMING FISHING WITH YOU!! LOL, great fish there! That Duckett rod you should love! (dont have one, but they feel great!) I know Hookingem and Sam, and while we usually question each others intelligence out fishing together I side with them. But, it's your call Jmed999 (and welcome to the forum as well), I doubt you're going to go wrong. Post pictures of what you catch with the combo.
  7. yeah, I was going to plan on using some Fluke Jr. Albino color I think it is or white tubes with a casting weight inserted inside. I need to start fishing shaking heads, never really invested time wiht that method.
  8. To be honest for some reason I hardly ever catch fish on a pop-r, now a spook is another matter:)
  9. Hey everyone, I fish the James in Richmond a ton, love this river. But, a place I fish regulary on the James has a lot of good fish, but I am not catching them (haha). A lot of catfish in the area and got a 8#er last Sunday morning on a Pearl 4" Senko. But, I could definitly use some suggestions for finding the smallies. In the morning there are a fair amount of "crew rowers?" out there. There are a lot of "topwater fireworks," going off in the morning as well. I fish from the shore and the river is fairly wide here. The slow breaks on top, I assume are cats, and the lighting fast strikes I am sure are the smallies. I got tubes ready, senkos, Rage Shads ready, just the really slow water gives me problems. The reason I saw the slow water gives me issues is I try to keep the senko moving, whatever lures, trying to keep the fish from getting a close look at it. They seem to be chasing bait fish in the mornings, could use some adivce on tatics and lure recommendations. Thanks in advance, Wdy
  10. FYI, there's a Powell Max Spinning rod for sale at a good price now in the Flea market thread.
  11. Where's the clip from "Dumb and Dumber," you want to hear the most annoying sound ever?
  12. Nickleback... haha!
  13. I would suggest putting more $$ towards a better rod then reel. Can you take a trip to your nearest fishing tackle store and get your hands on a lot of different rods? That would be the first thing I would suggest. Come back on this site and search in the rod, reel, line forum the rods your looking at and see what people have said about them. Looking at/for new fishing tackle is supposed to be fun! Enjoy it, you've earned the $$ and now you are rewarding yourself! (I agree with Packard as well, use the flea market forum here.) PS, welcome to the forum!
  14. I read on cnn.com this morning China drops US's credit rating. Mmm,
  15. No one mentioned the Pats. I'm not a Pats fan, I favor Minnesota, but not really after all that Favre "crude," last year.
  16. you're doing the right thing Fat-G, as mentioned earlier the rods and reels in the future are going to be nuts! Be responsible now, save money, but have some fun money to enjoy life. Go to college try not to accmulate debt, and you will be so far ahead of the curve! (Besides, wouldn't you like to go out with Hookingem and catch more fish on a lesser rod and reel then what he has?)
  17. Bravo, Bravo, (golf clap!) Great job!
  18. Powell rods are pretty good, I got an Endurance series spin rod. you might want to check out www.tackletour.com A web site that tests and evaulates fishing tackle. Good luck! Saw your post about that Pfluger reel, I was thinking about getting the same one. Thanks for posting that question.
  19. What about the Nanofil knot? I mean is that the only knot, or "recommended knot," for using this line? The reason I ask is I like to use a Rapala knot and 4" senkos and walk the dog with them (then kill it). Thanks,
  20. Fat-g's name is Hayden. We know each other.
  21. Fly, I noticed that is the smaller of the two reels capable of holding 8# line. What line are you using on your reels? (I generally use 8# copoly lines). Sorry, not trying to high-jack this thread.
  22. (Hayden (Fat-G), I want to try out that Lews when you get it.)
  23. LOL, Great comments! Yeah, you got to watch out for those Rage Tails, Hookingem put me on them. First cast 3.5#. "The first step is admitting you have a problem..." That is awesome!!! But, we are going to have a 7-step process for becoming a better fisherman.
