High end rod advice
What the hell? Are you made of money?

Best frog rod/reel
I like a 7' rod. A Falcon Original 7' MH works pretty good. Remember, you don't need sensitivity so when deciding what rod to get choose the strongest rod. For a reel I would go with a Quantum Code baitcaster with a 7.1:1 gear ratio. I might look like a small and weak reel, but man does it pack a punch! Both the rod and reel I mentioned are under $100.00 so you will have some extra coin to get you some frogs.

muddy water cranking.
Like GMAN said I like something bright. A sexy shad color would be bad, neither would would a firetiger type of color.

River drop shotting
You should have some success. I think the current would generate enough action to your bait to get some bites.

SCENTS..
I use two different brands: Megastrike and Smelly Jelly. Scents do both of the things you mentioned. They mask odors that the fish don't like and they both help fish hold onto your bait once they have it in their mouth. Never night fished for bass, so I couldn't help you there.

t-rig vs. jig
I will choose a Texas-rigged bait to get a limit, then go to a jig to upgrade my limit.
