  1. Good god. Great stuff, Steve. Darn near 100 pounds for 10 is just incredible. When are you taking me?!?!!
  2. Wow. That stinks big time, Bruce. Completely uncalled for by those guys. Karma will catch up to them one of these days though. Sounds like you guys still had a hell of a day out there. 27 pounds and change is nothing to shy away from. Shame that somebody else potentially cost you the Classic win. I don't doubt for a moment that you'll be right back up there again next time around though. Good luck this Saturday. God knows I wish I was planning on being fishing this weekend.
  3. The ACLU is already reportedly planning a suit. From what I've read/heard. "But the law might not last that long. The Florida ACLU has already filed a lawsuit saying the law violates the fourth amendment rights of the welfare recipients’. “It’s not even random drug testing,” one of the officials says. “It’s drug testing of all people who apply for public assistance and you can’t do that without suspicion of something.” Florida will be the only state that requires welfare recipients to be drug tested." I'd like to see it stand, but for some reason I doubt it will.
  4. Heard about it on the news this morning. Thats just awesome. About time.
  5. Well done. Thanks for posting that.
  6. Fluoro leader material is generally harder, stronger, and more abrasion resistant than standard filler spool fluorocarbon. It's also will cost more. You can get away using standard filler spool fluoro. Both will work just fine. If you're looking for leader specific applications though, there is no reason to not go with the leader specific material. When using a standard filler spool, generally people will fill up a reel with X amount of line, and then use the balance of the spool as leader line for another rod. Take your pick.
  7. Whenever the water is wet. Use them year round in any conditions.
  8. Oh wow. That sucks big time, Dale. Hopefully the catch the rotten SOB's that did it.
  9. By hand for all of my reels, both fresh and salt.
  10. x2 Thats generally what I'll do with my plastics when I'm using JJ's. Just make sure you don't accidentally dip the chartreuse first and then the clear.....
  11. Don't care what it is. All I'm hoping is that there will be lots of reels being posted on the flea market when people upgrade to the new 2011 stuff.
  12. Thats probably a smart move. Man, 10'? Thats scary low. Like mentioned though, one good tropical system can dump the water right back into it. It's not a matter of if we'll get one, but when.
  13. For some reason, Parabolic rods always get labeled as whippy or wimpy. Parabolic really only means that the rod bends through the entire blank. Lots of people that flip into very heavy cover are starting to use parabolic rods now to help keep fish pinned when setting the hook. I've got a couple of parabolic trolling rods that I use offshore for billfish. I wouldn't exactly call those wimpy or whippy.
  14. They don't call the Infantry "Queen of battle" for nothing. :D Kidding with you of course. It'll get better. Most prior service members have all been there. Bird Dog, there isn't any need to strut around and stick out your feathers because you've got X amount of combat patrols. Honestly, nobody cares. Be proud of what you've done, but don't go throwing it around in peoples faces. I was deployed more than my fair share of times, but you don't see me posting about how I've been where and done this or that. All that matters is that you do your job and come home safely. As far as the "POG" deal goes. Every MOS has their terms for other MOS's. Just the good natured hatred (I use the term hatred very loosely here) attitude held towards each other.
  15. I do it frequently for a swim jig. I don't see why it wouldn't work fished as a traditional jig either. Might be something I have to play with a bit.
  16. Congrats!! Looking forward to my hopefully early retIrement whenever that may be...
  17. May want to mention that to the residents of Cleveland that created the whole Cavs For Mavs thing.... I've spent Some time in Cleveland. I'll pass on living there.
  18. Ahem. Yeah. 1 - 0 Heatles!
  19. Just stick it into some running water and then squeeze the excess out. It won't hurt the cork any. Make sure you let it thoroughly dry afterwards.
  20. I'll put it this way, the last couple of times I was there (once with glades), those stupid things wouldn't back off. I could have very easily hooked a few of them on a spook. One of the other trips I made out there, we had a gator just hanging out right next to the boat. We'd move, he'd move with us. Not something I'd want to experience in a small boat. Especially one that sits so low to the water.
  21. I've noticed the same thing, Mike. I've got a handful of them that don't run true at all. At slow speeds it's no problem. Once you start to really burn them in though, they'll d**n near flip on the side. Gotta take my little mallet out and whack them a few times myself to see what happens.
  22. I've been tempted to take my jon out to lox. Even more so after seeing the small plastic boats last time we were out there, Kevin. Talk about being able to get into some skinny stuff right now with the water levels so far down. I've seen how fearless some of those gators are though.....
  23. Ohio each time I see your posts about basketball I laugh (don't mean to offend you in any way). You're name is Ohio, from Ohio, and you've got a big Celtics logo right below you're name. What are the odds that you hate the Heat.
  24. Exactly right. Most people don't know about that. It is ANY kind of motor on it whether it's in use or not, electric or gas. If you're just using oars and have no motor on the vessel, then you don't need to register it.
  25. I live on one of those lakes, so I can give you some fair input. 90% of the time they're private. Especially if there aren't any ramps. Theres a lake in my area that I take my Jon to regularly that is only for residents of that community. It has a ramp, I've never had any issues going there for the last couple of years. If somebody tells me I need to leave, well then obviously I have no grounds to stand on because I don't live in that particular community. Not all of those lakes are created equal. Don't show up to one thinking it's private water and that you're going to just whack fish all day long. My lake is very difficult to fish at times. Mind you, one down the street from me is much easier to fish. They can be extremely fun to fish in, or extremely frustrating. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Licensing: http://myflorida.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1562/~/do-i-need-a-freshwater-fishing-license-to-fish-on-private-property%3F Do I need a freshwater fishing license while fishing on private property? You do not need a freshwater fishing license to fish on private property if you are: 1) under 16 years of age; 2) in your county of residence, on your homestead or the homestead of your spouse or minor child, or you are a minor child fishing on your parent's homestead; 3) fishing in a man-made fishing pond of 20 acres or less that located entirely within the pond owner's property and has no surface water connection to public waters; 4) fishing in a pond owned by a person who holds a valid fish pond license for the pond; or 5) you are a resident who is fishing with live or natural bait, using poles or lines that are not equipped with a fishing-line-retrieval mechanism, and you are fishing for noncommercial purposes in your home county. There are many groups of people who are exempt from the license requirements. Some exemptions apply to "Florida Residents" only. Please be aware of the Florida state residency requirements listed at http://myfwc.com/license/recreational/florida-residency/. Exemptions may also apply to saltwater species, or freshwater fish, or both. Groups of people that are exempt from purchasing a recreational saltwater or freshwater fishing license are listed on the Website: http://myfwc.com/license/recreational/do-i-need-a-license. In summary, you need to purchase a recreational fishing license if you are not a member of a group of people exempted by law. If you are a member of an exempted group, you do not need a license. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Most of the times those private waterways aren't monitored by any state agencies. That being said, if a cop or whomever stopped you and asked for a license, they could very easily hand you a citation for not having one. Licenses are cheap. You should buy one anyway. The money helps to support our states fishing programs. It shouldn't be a matter of being "safe" or not. There are many more benefits to the fishing community besides not getting a ticket.
