What rod are you using ? Reel ?

I've used spinning reels for years and never had any problem with the speed needed to work a buzzbait , what were you using ?

You really don't need a high end rod for cranking unless you have extra money you don't need and if you do , buy the most expensive rods that you can afford.

Your braid is slipping on the reel , do as David P said and you will eliminate the problem.
